Welcome to Trinity!

Though we cannot be with you in-person today, we’re glad to have you join us online.

Here at Trinity, we strive to follow our Lord Jesus in fully welcoming everyone into community. We seek to provide a place of true sanctuary in a world that too often offers judgment instead of grace and exclusion rather than embrace. As a Reconciling In Christ congregation, we rejoice to fully welcome LGBTQIA folks. We celebrate racial and ethnic diversity as a gift to the community. We seek to include those who are dealing with physical challenges and developmental disabilities. Beyond all this, we happily include people wherever they are on their faith journey, including seekers with deep doubts and questions, those who are new to the faith, and seasoned long-time believers. In short, we believe that when Jesus commanded his followers to share the Gospel with ALL people – he meant it! Welcome!

Gathering

Prelude: “Break Our Hearts”

Chorus Break our hearts with the things that break Yours

Wake us up to see through Your eyes

Break our hearts with the things that break Yours

And send us out to shine in the darkness

Verse It's time for us to live the songs we sing

And turn our good intentions into action

To bring the kind of worship You desire

And move beyond our self-absorbed distractions

The mountains are shaking / Could this be a great awakening

Chorus Break our hearts . . .

Verse It's time to move outside our comfort zone

To see beyond our churches and our homes

To change the way we think and how we spend

Until we look like Jesus again

The mountains are shaking / Could this be a great awakening

Chorus Break our hearts with the things that break Yours

(Twice) Wake us up to see through Your eyes

Break our hearts with the things that break Yours

(1st time) And send us out to shine

(2nd time) And send us out to shine in the darkness

Tag And send us out to shine in the darkness

And send us out to shine

Confession and Forgiveness:

All may make the sign of the cross, the sign that is marked at baptism, as the presiding minister begins.

P Blessed be the holy Trinity, ɫ one God, whose steadfast love is everlasting., whose faithfulness endures from generation to generations.

C Amen.

P Trusting in the mercy of God, let us confess our sin.

Silence is kept for reflection.

P Reconciling God,..

C We confess to you that we have failed to be your priestly people… In our failure to forgive, we have misrepresented your grace. In our fears of those who differ, we have misrepresented the broad reach of your love. In our failure to speak for those who are oppressed – for black and brown folks, for LGBTQ folks, for immigrants - we have misrepresented your protective care. In our failure to trust you in all things, we have shown weak faith. Forgive us, Lord, for these and for all of our sins. Shape us in your love and make of us a holy, priestly people. Amen.

P Beloved of God, by the radical abundance of divine mercy we have peace with God through ɫ Christ Jesus,

through whom we have obtained grace upon grace. Our sins are forgiven. Let us live now in hope.

For hope does not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy

Spirit.

C Amen.

L Word of God, word of life.

C Thanks be to God!

First Reading: Exodus 19:2-8a

The Israelites had journeyed from Rephidim, entered the wilderness of Sinai, and camped in the wilderness; Israel

camped there in front of the mountain. 3Then Moses went up to God; the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying,

“Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob, and tell the Israelites: 4You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I

bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5Now therefore, if you obey my voice and keep my covenant, you

shall be my treasured possession out of all the peoples. Indeed, the whole earth is mine, 6but you shall be for me a

priestly kingdom and a holy nation. These are the words that you shall speak to the Israelites.” 7So Moses came,

summoned the elders of the people, and set before them all these words that the Lord had commanded him. 8The people

all answered as one: “Everything that the Lord has spoken we will do.”

Second Reading: Romans 5:1-8

Since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4and endurance produces character, and charac-ter produces hope, 5and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.

6For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous

person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8But God proves his love for us in that

while we still were sinners Christ died for us.

L Word of God, word of life.

C Thanks be to God!

Gospel: Matthew 9:35 --10:8

Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the king-

dom, and curing every disease and every sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because

they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful,

but the laborers are few; 38therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

10 Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to

cure every disease and every sickness. 2These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as

Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and

Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one

who betrayed him.

5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the

Samaritans, 6but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7As you go, proclaim the good news, ‘The kingdom of

heaven has come near.’ 8Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without

payment; give without payment.

P The holy Gospel according to Matthew, chapters 9 and 10.

C Glory to you, O Lord.

Sermon

P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

C Thanks be to God!

Hymn of the Day: “O Christ, Who Called the Twelve” TERRA BEATA

1. O Christ, who called the twelve to rise and follow you,

forsaking old, familiar ways for ventures bold and new:

Grant us to hear your call to risk security

and bound in heart and will to you, find perfect liberty.

2. O Christ, who taught the twelve the truth for ages sealed,

whose words and works awakened faith, the ways of God revealed:

Instruct us now, we pray, by your empow’ring Word.

True teacher, be for all who seek their light, their life, their Lord.

3. O Christ, who sent the twelve on roads they’d never trod

to serve, to suffer, teach, proclaim the nearer reign of God:

Send us on ways where faith transcends timidity,

where love informs and hope sustains both life and ministry. © 1993 GIA Publications, Inc. All rights reserved. OneLicense.net License #A-704557

Apostles' Creed:

C I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at

the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Offering

Offertory: “Menuetto”…………………………………………………………………………….………………….Anton Diabelli

Peace

Raised to new life, filled with the Holy Spirit, and gifted richly by God, we respond with joy and thanksgiving for all that

God has first given us. Many of you have been sharing your offerings by mailing your checks to the church office or by

using your bank’s bill-pay system. We have recently begun working with a new platform for online giving. Here’s the

link to the secure site: https://tithe.ly/give?c=971797

However it is that you share your offerings, we thank you for your faithful financial support of the ministry we share!

Prayers of Intercession:

P Called into unity with one another and the whole creation, let us pray for the world we share.

A brief silence.

After each petition:

P Hear us, O God

C Your mercy is great.

The prayers conclude:

P Receive these prayers, O God, and those that are too deep for words; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C Amen.

Thanksgiving at the Table:

P Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your

Son, who reached out to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor, and who, on the cross,

opened his arms to all.

In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to his

disciples, saying, “Take and eat, this is my body given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying, “This cup is the new

covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we await his coming in glory.

Pour out upon us the Spirit of love, O Lord, and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body

and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and

forever.

C Amen.
