2 Upgrade instructions

Warning: When upgrading from versions 2.4 (or earlier), to versions 2.8(or later), be sure to have a valid SW Maintenance licence. To check ifyou have a valid licence, you can first upgrade the unit to version 2.6.

• Always take a backup of the device’s current configuration before doing the upgrade (useDevice Info > Save/load Configs > Save Configuration in the device’s GUI).

• Have a copy of the original software files currently in use at hand, in case of a need forreverting to the last operational state.

• Make sure youhave both the SW image for the encoder/decoder boards (neo1401_xxx.bin),hbr board (neo1501_xxx.bin), and the main board (virtuoso_xxx.bin) with the same ver-sion number.

• Visit Device Info->Maintenance->SW Upgrade.

• If an HBR board needs to be upgraded. Select the file neo1501_xxx.bin, and check toupgrade the boards. Please make sure to NOT “Reboot after upgrade” in this first stageof the upgrade procedure.

• If aH264/AVCencoder/decoder boardneeds to be upgraded. Select the file neo1401_xxx.bin,and check to upgrade the encoder/decoder boards. Please make sure to NOT “Reboot af-ter upgrade” in this first stage of the upgrade procedure.

• If an ASI board needs to be upgraded. Select the file neo4213_xxx.bin, and check to up-grade the ASI modules. Please make sure to NOT “Reboot after upgrade” in this firststage of the upgrade procedure.

• After upgrading the boards in slot 1-4, proceed with selecting the file virtuoso_xxx.binand check the selection to upgrade “Slot M: Main Board”.

• Finally, reboot the unit.

6.2 Fixed issues

• HBR: PTP will now resynchronize if master has large clock steps

• H264 Decoder: Fixed an issue where the decoder would not handle that the initial sliceQP was negative.

6.3 Known issues and limitations

6.3.1 OS / General

• The reference sync input might incorrectly report sync loss in the alarm log. Note thatthis will not affect outputs locked to this reference sync.

• Media over IP channel ping follows the management routing table, so in order to use thisfeature, the management routing table needs to be configured accordingly.

• Deleting BISS descramblers might affect behaviour of IP-RX or BISS descramblers that aresubsequently created. Reset unit to solve issue.

• Requires flash player version 11.1

• The video input switch does not handle the following when in use by the Encoder: Delet-ing the switch, disabling the inputs, removing all inputs, or disabling the switch.

Page 12: Virtuoso Media Node Release Notes · nevion.com Virtuoso Media Node Release Notes Revision: 2.8.56(5449) 2019-06-19

Release 2.8.56 12

ID: virtuoso_relnote Virtuoso Media Node Release Notes Rev. 2.8.56 (5449)

• For HD formats, ancillary data is only extracted from the luma channel.

• Missing configuration of IP RX parameters, causing issues if the user configures the sameIP RX parameters on several channels.

• 10GE DA cables above 1m might experience Ethernet CRC errors the HBR card.

• BISS1 descrambling is limited to 100mbps per unit.

6.3.2 TS processing

• Only 188 bytes TS packets are supported on ASI outputs on ASI Boards.

6.3.3 Uncompressed transport of video and audio

• Audio-IP only supported for AES67 environment with PTP (adaptive clock recovery akafree run not yet supported).

• Audio-IP input does not support streams where the stream has a combination of sampledepth, packet period and channel count per stream that gives IP packets that are shorterthan 100 bytes.

6.3.4 H.264

• BISS1 Scrambling is limited to 80Mbps per Encoder.

• Low latency encoding is supported for the following formats: SD, 1080i50/59.94 and720p50/59.94

• Some customconfigurations that are possible to set on the encoderwill not take effect/producea valid output.

• If the encoder is in “Freeze Frame” encoding mode and the SDI input switches to a signalwith a very different phase/frequency, the encoder might introduce an small A/V syncoffset for a short period of time. This issue can be mitigated by configuring the option“Resync condition” to “Low delay resync” (the option is located in the encoder advancedtab).

• The combination of AVC-I with the low latency encoding mode may cause A/V syncissues and image artifacts.

• Changing the bitrate on the encoder in large steps might result in reduced video quality.Disable and enable the encoder if this happens.

• Using signal loss mode on the encoder combined with audio format “AC-3”, might resultin audio issues after input signal is lost and re-established.

• Decoding audio streamswith bitrates<= 96kbps can lead to distortionswhenusing 100mslatency option. Change mode to 300ms.

9.4 Known issues and limitations

9.4.1 OS / General

9.4.2 TS processing

9.4.3 Uncompressed transport of video and audio

• Audio-IP only supported for AES67 environment with PTP (adaptive clock recovery akafree run not yet supported).

• Audio-IP input does not support streams where the stream has a combination of sampledepth, packet period and channel count per stream that gives IP packets that are shorterthan 100 bytes.

9.4.4 H.264
