Cardiac Workshop & ECG Recording for HCAs 9.30 – 4.30 pm

Spring 2019 This one-day course is designed to enable HCAs to obtain knowledge and skills in the primary care management of coronary heart disease. The course will cover what CHD is, who is at risk of developing it and the relevant health education. The course will also provide training on ECG recording so that the HCAs understand what it is they are recording and why accurate lead placement is important, as well as how to record the ECG. They will be provided with a competency package in ECG recording to complete in practice under the supervision of a nurse mentor. The course will enable HCAs to support the practice nurses with running their cardiac clinics. Once assessed as competent they will be able to accurately record ECGs and know when they have produced an adequate ECG. Also it will provide the HCAs with health education knowledge and skills that will be transferable to other parts of their role such as BP monitoring and undertaking health checks.

This course aims to deliver a broad assessment of the main issues involved in performing spirometry in primary care, indications for doing spirometry, how to undertake the tests, how to interpret the results and details on quality control and further training. This workshop will equip the delegate to have a better understanding and be able to perform spirometry assessments by a theoretical and practical approach. They will need to complete a competency assessment back at their practice. This session is specifically for those who are new to and/or interpreting spirometry readings and want to ensure they are following good practice.
