Thankfulness in ‘Those Days'

"A cheerful heart is good medicine ..." Proverbs 17:22

We’ve all had one of those days. By ‘those days,’ I mean the car won’t start, kids

fighting, schedule interrupted, late for work, bad hair days. ‘Those days’ begin the same way every day begins. You wake up, go into your routine and assume that

what you have planned will turn out exactly as it should, only to have the hours unravel into chaos.

What do you do in those days? Fight them? Avoid them? Pretend they don’t exist?

There is a beautiful principle under which the Lord encourages you to live. It is

the principle of choosing to have a thankful (or cheerful) heart. Choose to be

thankful for the time when ‘those days’ make you stronger. Choose to be thankful for the opportunity ‘those days’ present. Choose to be thankful that God has given

you the power in His Spirit to respond positively to ‘those days.’

This season of Thanksgiving, I encourage you to choose to cultivate a cheerful heart the moment you get out of bed. Thank Him for the grace in Christ under

which you live. Thank Him for the blessings of Country, Faith and Family. Thank

Him for a gathering of believers that seek to love God and others. Watch how God’s Holy Spirit develops your cheerful heart, even in the midst of one of ‘those

days.’

PERSONAL TRANSFORMATION 5

Prayer Shawls

It had been an emotional week. My stepfather had just been diagnosed with esophageal cancer and the prognosis was not encouraging. As I drove home from northern Minnesota, so many thoughts

raced through my mind, but the one thing that kept popping back into my head was that shawl!

At first glance I thought it was little more than a nice soft blanket- to me it did not seem to be anything out of the ordinary, but to my stepfather it had become a treasure. It was at

his chair whenever he sat down, and he wrapped it around his shoulders as he headed off to every appointment - it always seemed to be near. When I asked him about it, he got

teary as he told me that a woman from church had made it and delivered it with a prayer card that simply stated God was with him and she would be praying for him. I could tell

that it had made an immediate difference to him both mentally and physically. When I mentioned it to my mom, she too said what a special gift it was and how much comfort it

had provided both of them. By the time I got home I was convinced that I needed to bring

this idea back to our new church. I put a note in the Sunday bulletin asking people if they would like to be a part of a group that made Prayer Shawls. I was so excited to receive a call from a woman in the congregation that told me how

much she loved to knit and crochet and wanted to make a difference. I was a little hesitant to tell her, that although I was VERY passionate about this ministry, I had never actually done any knitting! There was a slight pause, and then a quick

and generous offer to teach me - and so began my knitting lessons and friendship with Lillian Carlson.

That was twelve years and thousands of stitches ago. These shawls have been shared to celebrate births, offer

encouragement in times of sickness, and comfort during times of suffering and loss. We are often blessed to hear how such an ordinary item can become such an extra-ordinary gift. Through the years we have referred to it as "the power of

the prayer shawl". I distinctly remember our first thank you note that read, "Although my eyesight is very poor, I can feel the love knitted in every stitch and I find great comfort in my shawl". Being able to play a small part in bringing that type

of comfort to another person has been, and continues to be, humbling and motivating. Our group of Prayer Shawl knitters is small but dedicated, and we welcome new members at any time. We have yarn and needles ~ we just need you to

supply the desire. Please feel free to join us the first Tuesday of the month at 1pm, or the third Sunday at 2pm in the

Fellowship Area downtown. Also, shawls and Prayer Squares (mini versions) are available at both sites at any time if you would like to have one for yourself or someone else . For more information please call 715-377-1452 (Lillian) or 715-386-

Advent by Candlelight Advent by Candlelight is a special evening for women to celebrate the start of the Advent season. The evening starts

at 6:00 pm and will be held in the Trinity Academy gym on Sunday, November 30th. We are looking for women to host a table of eight. Feel free to invite your friends. Hosts provide their own desserts and decorate their own table.

Drinks will be provided. Sign-ups will be available at both sights. Seating is limited so sign up early. All women are

encouraged to come to this evening of music, devotion and fellowship. Setup starts on Saturday at 10:00 am. Please contact Gayle Brooks ([email protected]) or Anne Ross ([email protected]) for questions, or to volunteer to

setup, cleanup, or to help with readings.

Trinity Transportation

We are very excited to announce that the shuttle bus has been purchased and is now in our possession! This vehicle is going to be a great blessing to many ministries at

Trinity! The most obvious one is that we can now provide transportation for those who have difficulty getting in and out of a regular van or bus. As an example, it will be

used on Sunday mornings to transport anyone who is in need of a ride to worship.

This will be available for both sites. If you are interested in utilizing this service, please contact the Downtown office for more information.

Please continue to offer support for this ministry by donating to the Transportation Fund. Checks should be made out

to Trinity, and write “Transportation Fund “ on the memo line. There will be updates about our progress in future bulletins.

INSPIRATIONAL WORSHIP 6

Hudson Community Thanksgiving Service O give thanks to the Lord for he is good and his mercy endures forever! Join your friends and neighbors from the Hudson area churches for the

annual Hudson Community Thanksgiving Service on Wednesday, November

26th, 7:00 PM, at Trinity’s Downtown campus. The service will feature music, readings, a message, and prayers to celebrate God’s blessings to us. It will

be followed by pie and coffee/punch in the gym downstairs.

If you would be willing to bake a pie for the evening, please contact Pastor

Tim. Any kind of pie is welcome.

Please remember to join us on November 26th at 7 pm. The Hudson Community Thanksgiving Service is always inspirational, and a great way to

celebrate our faith and our God with all our Christian brothers and sisters in the area.

Confirmed In Christ

On Sunday, November 23rd, 30+ students will confirm their faith in a service of celebration. It is a process in our Lutheran Church body called “The Rite of Confirmation.” But what is this actually about?

God give us His Holy Spirit through the waters of baptism. As children and adults, this is a point in our spiritual lives where God initiates saving faith within us. As the Bible says, we are baptized into Christ. Then, as we grow and develop in our

knowledge and understanding of the Lord, there comes a point when we want to make a public declaration that Jesus is our Savior and we are committed to following Him, always relying on the Holy Spirits power. This public declaration is the rite

called, “Confirmation.” It is reconfirming the faith started through Baptism.

These students will have been active in our youth program, have been taught the basics of faith in our doctrine class, and

are prepared to make a public statement of faith. Please join us as we celebrate God’s work in the lives of our students ~ Sunday, November 23rd, 2:00 pm, Downtown Campus.

Communion Communion is a significant part of the worship experience at Trinity. It is prepared by volunteer members

before the 9:00 am worship service. Volunteers arrive by 8:40 am to set up. After the 9:00 am service, it is prepared for the 10:30 am service. Individuals are needed for both worship times. It takes very little

time, and orientation is provided by Mary Golke. If you are interested in volunteering for this important

service, please contact Mary Golke at 763-784-5513.

7 FOUNDATIONAL FAITH Bible Sunday

September 21st was Bible Sunday at

Trinity. We love supporting parents in the faith development of children,

and one of the ways we do this is by

giving Bibles to our young people. Our kindergarten friends received The

Beginner's Bible, and our more advanced 3rd grade readers

upgraded to The Adventure Bible.

We encourage parents to read these Bibles with their children so they

grow to not only understand God's Word, but to live by it!

If your child missed getting a Bible on Bible Sunday, please contact Cheri Buelow at

[email protected].

The Cross

Our guiding scripture: “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” 1 Corinthians 1:18

Trinity’s youth group, The Cross, is off to a fantastic start this fall. As a result of an adult leader

meeting in August, we are blessed to have around 30 volunteer adults filling the youth ministry roles of small group leaders, worship leaders, and support providers! Each one has an important role,

which if left untended, would cripple our ministry.

Our small group leaders pray for their students daily, and guide them through scripture reading, journaling, prayer and discussion. Multiple times throughout the week the small group leaders interact with youth by

providing encouragement prayer, and reminders to read God’s word. If you’re interested in helping as a small group leader or as a substitute, talk with Jack Jorgensen. We will always need adults willing to mentor, support, and pray for youth.

Our worship leaders are dedicated to motivating student growth in a relationship to Christ through song and prayer. It’s standing room only, during worship!! They will also begin a mentoring process to build new worship leaders in our youth.

We have many talented students at The Cross. If your son or daughter is interested in being a part of the worship team have them talk with Eric Hahn, as he would love to guide them and see them being used.

Our support providers play a huge role in making each Wednesday at The Cross a success. They set up, sign in, and

collect registration forms and payments for events and fellowship nights. They put things away, keep the youth room in

clean and working order. We depend on their support for many things, including chaperoning events. If you have an interest in the vital role behind the scenes of The Cross, please talk with Carol Smith, and she’ll plug you in where your gift

can best be used to serve.

I am grateful for the interest so many have expressed to assist in The Cross this year! Truly our students benefit the most

when they see adults active in their faith and willing to serve with a humble heart, using gifts our Father has blessed each one with. Our youth ministry began this fall with less than 35 students registered. Currently we serve over 100 students

each Wednesday, and the number continues to grow! God is good, and at work at The Cross!!

RELATIONAL CONNECTION 8

Staff Person of the Month Each month in the Trinity newsletter we highlight a staff member. This is a great way for the congregation

to get to know us a little bit better. This month we are highlighting staff member Amanda Lloyd.

1) Give a brief description of your position.

I assist the child care center with daily responsibilities that ensure a quality childcare program. I am

responsible for recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers to guarantee success and continue the growth of the program’s development and goals. Although there are specific tasks that remain consistent

each day, there is not a “typical” day in child care. Each day looks different.

2) What did you do before coming to Trinity?

Before I started working at Trinity I was a fulltime student at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. I graduated with an Early

Childhood Education degree and a minor in Business Administration in May 2014. While attending college I worked at a

Childcare Center for six years. My very first day at the Childcare Center over six years ago, I knew my passion was in childcare.

3) What are the joys of your job?

Each day I am blessed with so many joys throughout the day! I am blessed with staff that works as a team to ensure quality childcare, having the ability to truly get to know staff members and the children, seeing the smiles and hearing the

laughter come from the classrooms, and being able to be in the classrooms spending time with the children.

4) What positives do you see about the total Trinity Ministry?

The Trinity Ministry offers many positives to the students, families, employees, Trinity congregation, and the community.

One of my favorite things about the Trinity Ministry is that they are often giving back to the community, reaching out to several non-profits, families in needs, and striveing to fulfill the current needs identified by community members.

5) How do you see God working here at Trinity? I see God’s miracles everyday at Trinity. I see support between staff members, parents and children, the word of God

being shared with the children daily, prayers for one another, and Trinity reaching out to the community to strengthen spirits.

New Trinity Academy Teachers

Carol Maser My Favorite Bible Verse: "Be still, and know that I am God." - Psalm 46:10a

My Greatest Joy in working in a Christian School: There are so many reasons why Christian schools are

great! For me, it is because of the Christian community that is shared among teachers, parents and students.

I Love Trinity Academy because: The love of Jesus is evident in all that we do, and we are firmly

grounded in His word.

About Me: I am married and have three children - one in college and two in high school at Concordia Academy in Roseville. I spend a lot of time at sporting events and activities of my children. I also enjoy cooking and spending time with

my family. I like to garden, read, and go camping. I have over 20 years of experience in education working at different

levels but middle school students at a Lutheran school is my favorite.

Alyssa Schaffer My Favorite Bible Verse: Let your light shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify

your father in heaven. - Matthew 5:16

My Greatest Joy in working in a Christian School: I love teaching in a school that is full of God's love and protection. It allows the students and I to do our best work as we can lean on him for guidance and

direction.

I Love Trinity Academy because: I love Trinity Academy because the families are invested in their children's education, and we work together to encourage the students to grow educationally, spiritually and emotionally.

About Me: I graduated from University of River Falls, majoring in Elementary Education and specializing in English

Language Arts. I was raised in Hudson, WI and graduated from Hudson High School. I am married to a wonderful man, and together we are in charge of the Young Marrieds ministry at our church. Our faith is very important to us, which only

heightens my excitement to teach in a Christian environment.

MISSIONAL MOMENTUM 9

Stewardship Committee News The committee meets monthly to explore ways to promote the joy and passion of selfless giving. As individuals and as a

church, one of the ways we reflect God’s gift of mercy and grace given to us in Christ, is by having a giving and grateful heart. The committee is working with the church leadership, exploring ways to educate and motivate us all to be

sacrificial givers of our time, treasures, and talents. This month we thought we would tell you a little bit about each

committee member. Anyone having an interest in the church’s finances and assisting with the committee work is welcome to join in. We have an awesome time!

Steve Hamill is our committee leader. He and his family have been involved at Trinity with the Academy for 12 years

and have been members of the church for six years. He says he used to give money to the church out of a sense of obligation and almost fear. As God has worked in him, Steve has seen the money he gives put to use in ways he could

not ever have imagined. He looks at money differently and now, giving has become a joy.

Maf Berg has been at Trinity for about 30 years, during which she and her late husband Les were always faithful givers. However, she notes they never had a plan, just whatever happened to be in their wallet that Sunday, they gave. Maf

relates that after she read Randy Alcorn’s book, “The Treasure Principle” in 2001, she and her husband began to actually tithe and it wasn’t long before she began experiencing the joy in giving that is embraced Christ’s invitation: “Give and it

will be given to you.” (Luke 6:38)

Rick Hansen and his family have lived in Hudson for 19 years and have been part of Trinity for the last 15. Rick has a heart for volunteering and has devoted many hours of his time supporting the youth sports programs in our community.

He recognizes the joy that is inherent in sacrificial giving of his time, talents and treasures. He joined the committee to

give of his time and talent, recognizing the difficult financial times churches often face, and hoping to make a difference.

Denny Hartung and his family have been in Hudson for nine years and have been members at Trinity for seven years.

He also felt giving was an obligation for a long time. Tithing for his family became real after hearing about it at a Sunday

worship service. Once they began to trust God’s faithfulness and promises, giving became a joyful part of worship. He relates that God has given them a sense of peacefulness and security by faithful, regular giving.

From the Board Give Thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever. (Psalm 118:29)

Thanksgiving day brings a focus on thanks for the month of November. This year and every year

and every day we at Trinity have reason to give thanks to our good Lord whose love is everlasting.

Elections: The elections completed at our October 26 Congregational Assembly give us another

opportunity to “give thanks to the Lord”. We give thanks for the years of service of those members who have completed two terms and are leaving their leadership positions: Dan Gaeu and Carl Schoenbeck

served on the board of directors, Jill Dougherty served on the nominating committee, Barb Schoenbeck served on the Trinity Academy Advisory Board.

We give thanks for those who begin new terms: Troy Thompson, Pete Scharber, and Steve Bohl begin new terms on the

Board of Directors; Maf Berg and Darcy Vargas begin new terms on the Trinity Academy Advisory Board; Kim Gallison begins a new term on the Nominating Committee.

We thank God for those members who are continuing in the leadership service: Steve Hamill, Terri Marquardt, Kevin

Puckett, Melissa Oscanyon, Tom Malchow, and Kori Land are contenting their terms on the Board of Directors; Tom Gallagher, Mark Anderson, Amy Pals, and Rachel Paul continue in their positions on the Trinity Academy Advisory Board;

Wayne Manlove and Kelly Darragh continue to serve on the Nominating Committee.

GLOBAL COMPASSION 10

Prayer Prayer is the best way to communicate with God, but many people avoid prayer because they think that God doesn't

like to listen, and answers their prayers only in times of great need. Others pray and feel that their prayers are not answered. When you pray effectively, you are guaranteed an answer from heaven. The scripture in James 5:16 says:

"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”

Our God has answered our prayers at Trinity, evident in all of the amazing ministries, and endless hours of sacrifice

from many volunteers serving others. I challenge you during this up-coming season to develop an attitude and habit of engaging in prayer. Talk to God. Read his Word. He hears you, and desires a relationship with you.

And the deacons will continue to pray; prayers of thanksgiving, praise, forgiveness, healing, and continued blessing on

our congregation!

Peace Brett Caslow – Deacon of Impact Missions
