You’d prefer that your plane had both wings, right? Jesus’ Great Commission to the church involves both reaching and teaching people. For the mission to be reached, both are needed. Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spir- it, and teaching them to obey everything I have command- ed you” (Matthew 28:19). Both evangelism and spiritual growth are fundamental in the task of making disciples; it’s not an “either/or,” but a “both/and” proposition. First Church partners with local and global missions orga- nizations and missionaries that help move the church toward fulfilling Christ’s Great Commission. We invite you to meet the missions that First Church supports and get a glimpse of what God is doing all over the world through our mission partners on MISSION WEEKEND. Missionaries and their representatives will have displays set up in the Gym (GFLC) at the Burling- ton Campus for everyone to visit. Displays will be open Saturday 4:00-7:00pm, Sunday 9:00am-1:00pm, and 5:00-8:00pm. First Church gives 17% of every offering to missions - that means YOU are directly impacting each of these missions and the places and people they serve. Greg Nettle, President of Stadia, will be our guest speaker for Mission Weekend. Greg is a dynamic leader and communicator. You won’t want to miss hearing his heart and vision for “a church for every child.” Another great opportunity over the weekend is to spend some time praying at the PRAYER WALL of Unreached Peoples, available in different formats at both campus- es. Nearly 7000 Unreached People Groups are represented! We encour- age you to pick an unreached people group to pray for. There are still opportunities to get involved and help make Mission Weekend a great opportunity to bless our missionaries and church family. From providing snacks to helping set up displays, you can make a difference. Promotion WeekendAugust 29 & 30Weekend Services | Burlington & Union CampusesContact: Julie | [email protected] | [email protected] | [email protected] | [email protected] | [email protected] Kids from preschool (2 years old and up) through high school will be promoted the same weekend. This provides consistency throughout the age groups and allows our small groups to remain unchanged throughout the summer. Kids and leaders have crazy schedules during the summer, so this is not the ideal time to form new groups. We will have special preview days for fall Kindergarten-ers and 5th graders on August 15/16 and August 22/23 so they can check out their new environments.

Focus in MayContact: Julie | [email protected] During May, elementary kids will focus on Honesty, choosing to be truthful in whatever you say and do. When we’re honest, when our words line up with our actions, people know they can trust us. Our relationships grow stronger. God understands the relationship between honesty and trust. This is something God set into motion in the first place.
