We are living in a difficult and challenging time,

now more than ever we need to form a more

united and strong community in the Lord by pray-

ing and celebrating together. I invite you to make

a commitment to personal and community prayer,

benefiting from the various activities that are being

planned in the community. For example, the

prayer program for our first Patron Feast Days or

the Family Catechesis program. In this article, I

want to reflect on the importance of catechesis and

evangelization.

Catechesis is the means that the Church has to fulfill its reason for being, that is, to

evangelize; since without catechesis there is no evangelization. Catechesis is not just

learning prayers, theories, dogmas or ideologies; it is the means to mature in faith and to

live fully in Christ (Ad gentes "no. 6). The Directory for Catechesis articulates that

evangelization is the process through which the Church and the people of God, moved by

the Holy Spirit, announce the Gospel to the world, bearing witness to the new way of being

and living. The task of evangelizing is not only of catechists or consecrated people, but

responsibility of all. Evangelization is doing things according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Jesus commanded his disciples saying “go throughout the world and preach the Good News

to everyone.” Christ asks us to be instruments of salvation by living in accordance to his

message.

We live in a digital culture; this leads us to a demand for a new evangelization. Let us

remember that faith is transmitted through interpersonal encounter and is nourished in the

Sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist, which is the center of the Catholic faith. There-

fore, catechesis seeks to mature in faith and make true disciples through a deeper

understanding of the message of Jesus Christ. It can be possible only if we overcome the

phenomenon of the digital world and thus be able to regain unity in the family and in the

church. Family catechesis is fundamental during the process of unification and renewal of

the church. Christ calls everyone to be faithful to His Gospel and proclaim it everywhere.

To be faithful to the Gospel is to evangelize by catechizing and celebrating the sacraments in

order to feed our faith in the church and at home.

Catechesis, evangelization and the sacraments are closely linked. True faith is born of the

love that wants to know more about Jesus, alive in the Church and present in the

sacraments. Catechesis cannot be thought only as preparation to receive a sacrament, but

must be understood as a means to have an experience with Christ in the sacraments and

thus be able to evangelize. In the sacraments, and above all in the Holy Eucharist, is where

Jesus Christ acts fully for the transformation of the faithful. Therefore the sacraments and

catechesis are inseparable and are the sustenance of the church to live according to the

Gospel of Jesus Christ, Evangelizing.

Estamos viviendo un tiempo difícil y de retos, ahora más que nunca necesitamos formar una

comunidad más unida y fuerte en el Señor orando y celebrando juntos. Los invito hacer un

compromiso de oración personal y comunitaria beneficiándonos de las diversas actividades

que se están planeando en la comunidad. Por ejemplo, el programa de oración con motivo

de nuestra primera Fiesta Patronal o el programa de catequesis familiar. En este artículo

quiero hacer una reflexión sobre la importancia de catequizar y evangelizar.

La catequesis es el medio que tiene la Iglesia para cumplir con su razón de ser, es decir,

evangelizar; ya que sin catequesis no hay evangelización. La catequesis no es solo aprender

oraciones, teorías, dogmas o ideologías, es el medio para madurar en la fe y para vivir en

plenitud en Cristo (Ad gentes" nº 6). El Directorio para la Catequesis articula que la

evangelización es el proceso mediante el cual la Iglesia, y el pueblo de Dios, movida por el

Espíritu Santo, anuncia al mundo el Evangelio dando testimonio de la nueva forma de ser y

vivir. La tarea de evangelizar no es solo de los catequistas o personas consagradas, sino

responsabilidad de todos. La evangelización es hacer las cosas según el Evangelio de

Jesucristo. Jesús mandó a sus discípulos diciendo “vayan por todo el mundo y prediquen la

Buena Nueva a todos”. Cristo nos pide que seamos instrumentos de salvación haciendo las

cosas según su mensaje.

Vivimos en una cultura digital, esto nos lleva a una exigencia de una nueva evangelización.

Recordemos que la fe se trasmite por el encuentro interpersonal y se alimenta en los

Sacramentos, especialmente la Santa Eucaristía que es centro y cumbre de la fe Católica.

Por lo tanto, la catequesis busca madurar en la fe y formar verdaderos discípulos por medio

de un conocimiento más profundo del mensaje de Jesucristo. Para que esto sea posible,

necesitamos superar el fenómeno del mundo digital y así poder recuperar la unidad en la

familia y en la Iglesia. La catequesis familiar es fundamental durante el proceso a de

unificación y renovación de la Iglesia. Cristo llama a todos a ser fieles a Su Evangelio y

anunciarlo en todas partes. Ser fieles al Evangelio es evangelizar catequizando y celebrando

los sacramentos para alimentar la fe en la Iglesia y en el hogar.

La catequesis, evangelización y sacramentos están

estrechamente unidos. La verdadera fe nace del

amor que desea conocer cada vez más a Jesús vivo

en la Iglesia y presente en los sacramentos. No se

puede pensar en catequesis solo como preparación

para recibir un sacramento, sino que debe ser

entendida como un medio para tener una

experiencia con Cristo en los sacramentos y así

poder evangelizar. En los sacramentos, pero

sobretodo en la Santa Eucaristía es donde

Jesucristo actúa en plenitud para la transformación

de los fieles. Por lo tanto los sacramentos y la catequesis son inseparables y son el sustento

de la Iglesia para hacer las cosas según el Evangelio de Jesucristo, Evangelizar.
