Annual Meeting ~

The CCV1 2017 Annual meeting was held on Saturday, January 28, at the East Center. We had over 72

members attend our luncheon and presentation from TEP before the meeting. The presentation was well

received by everyone as well as the bag of free and useful items from TEP.

We thank Mamma’s Hawaiian for the great catered lunch and our social Chair Diane Longo for setting it

all up. The meeting went well and there was good discussion on several topics.

The board will be looking into the concerns brought forward by the members.

Pam Haukaas, President

As of January 31, 2017, 202 of the owners in CCV1 have paid their 2017 dues. All the owners on Placita Yoas, Cadeza del Elefante and Calle McCleary have paid their dues. THANK YOU.

That leaves 27 owners yet to pay.

Why We Live Here and Not There by Elizabeth “Libby” Beyrer We (Fred D’Angelo and I) traveled back to home-state Connecticut on February 9th to participate in his mother’s 90th birthday party.

The worst snow storm of the season hit the day we arrived. 14+ inches blanketed the landscape. Fred had three opportunities to shovel snow. I scraped ice off our rental SUV — repeatedly.

Have you forgotten what it feels like to sit on an ice-cold vinyl car seat? To step outside and have your nostrils close up? To take mincing steps and hang onto anything that doesn’t move? To slip and slide your way up a hill hoping that your vehicle will make the crest? To drive on curvy roads narrowed by snow banks? How about creeping along while others whiz by you as if the roads were dry and clear?

Ah, but the snow is beautiful and the world is silent. Oh, for about a day or two and then it’s dirty and messy and it’s still cold and icy.

The point of this story —- Savor your time in the warmth and sunshine of the Southwest! As they say, “You can’t shovel heat!”

CCV1 Annual Dues will not be increasing for the 2018 year.

A year-end review of the association’s budget revealed that many projects in 2016 had cost less than anticipated. As a non -profit property owners’ association, we are not supposed to have a surplus except for about $15,000-$20,000 in case we incur legal fees. The board decided to use some of the association’s budgeted money on 2017 projects such as working with Median Green to clean up and replant the 5 medians on La Canoa, possibly repairing one to two more alleys, clearing out the ravine on the south side of our entrance, and pricing the cost to have a once-a-year pick up of yard debris.

The board welcomed new members Sherrill Sienicki and Steve Williams and returning members Nancy Schultz and Pam Haukaas.

We had election of officers for the 2017 board of directors — see page 1.

Architectural Chair, Gene Dunsirn, stated there was only two requests for improvements this last month and that one of the people used the new form that can be found on our website to make a request. Remember that if you are making any improvements or changes to you home you must submit a request to the Architectural Committee. Using this new form should be very easy and hassle free.

Yards and Alley Chair Steve Williams reminds everyone that now is the time to put a pre-emergent on your yard to help stop the growth of weeds. Also remember to pick up any debris from your palm trees that blow into your yard or onto your neighbor’s property. A reminder to pet owners to pick up after their pets even when walking in the alleys. He stated that visitors to our neighborhood have commented on how clean and neat the yards and homes look, which is a credit to all of our residents.

The board approved President Pam Haukaas’ request that we finish cleaning up the ravine on the south side of our entrance.

The new Social Committee Chair Nancy College reviewed the results of the questionnaire she put out at the annual meeting. There was interest in starting a book club in the neighborhood, interest in a potluck supper at a hall such as East Center, a neighborhood monthly get together at a members home, and a catered dinner. She will be working on some of these ideas and if you have more or would like to help out with one please give her a call.

Our neighborhood yard sale will be held on Saturday, March 11 from 7:00am till 1:00 pm. This is posted on the board by front entrance. If you are interested in taking part in this event and want more information please call Linda Berg at 520- 780-7636.

Pam Haukaas, President

A neighbors tip to taking care of weeds!

Weeds are gone! Never thought I would ever say that. In May we sprayed our yard both front and back with a homemade weed killer which we found on the internet (home remedy for weed control). Here is the recipe we used: Mix together the following ingredients and then funnel the concoction into a plastic spray bottle or sprayer: 1 gallon of white vinegar, 1 cup of table salt and 1 tablespoon of Dawn blue dishwashing liquid. Drench weeds with the solution on a dry, sunny day. Be careful not to spray on plants that you want to live or on soil where you might be planting something in the future because it will prevent future growth. Our yard is very large and mostly gravel and the solution did a great job.

News from the CCV1 Board of Directors and its Report for February 2017

Those who have Craigslist accounts may want to advertise to help spread the word.
