To communicate the main idea of the story to the audience I thought about putting in a similar picture to communicate loneliness, abandonment and desperation, all which are the main emotions Jake and Rosie go through throughout the story. This would give the audience the basic idea of the what story is about which will effect whether or not this is of their interest and whether they listen to it.

Picture

I first began to collect example pictures of what I wanted to communicate through my visual advert. This picture is effective loneliness to the audience whilst communicating the sea and open sky to show Jake’s location.

I wanted to include a picture to represent the reason why Jake and Rosie were abandoned on the island; wealth and money. This would communicate different themes to the audience, such as power, wealth, and selfishness.

In order to hint the tradgic ending (the murder of Rosie) of my radio drama to the viewers through my visual advert I wanted to show them visually the final result of Jake’s abandonment of the island, without hinting any reason as to how this and why this happened. Therefore this may catch the audience’s attention and make them want to listen in.

I became particularly interest by this image due to the colours and dress the woman wore. Whilst communicating death by drowning, the image also communicated beauty through the flowers on the dress and romance through her red lips. I wanted to create similar contrast within my radio drama to reflect Jake’s contrasting actions against his personality and loving feelings for Rosie.

Title and Caption

Titles:• The Island• Trapped• Deception• Mind Blank•Nothing but

open air• Escape to

Paranoia• SOS

• Isolation

Captions:• I’m telling you

I can’t remember

• You want to know what this

feels like?• Crazy people are the perfect subjects, they

talk and nobody listens

– Shutter Island quote• Innocent or

guilty?•I have my dark

days, everybody does - Shutter Island

quote

I decided to use this as my caption as whilst communicating a terrible crime he has committed to the audience, it also suggests he is not a normal mentally stable man. Fans of shutter island may recognise the quote and therefore may be interested due to the similarities made.

Escape to Paranoia was the best title I found for my radio drama as whilst the word escape suggests freedom the word paranoia suggests a twist in this escape. Escaping the stress of life with a holiday should not mean even more stress.

Escape to ParadisePARANOIA!

I have my dark days, everybody

does.

I decided to write ‘Escape to Paradise’ with the word paradise crossed out to communicate how being on this island was far from paradise and it made Jake go crazy with paranoia after being abandoned there for a week. This will make it obvious to the audience that this was no ordinary holiday which will communicate hints of tragic horror within the story due to the meaning of the word paranoia.

The blue colours represent the sea whilst communicating a calm, nature and relaxation feel towards the island. But the red colours effectively create contrast leading the audience to guess the twist within the story. Already making the audience engaged with my radio drama through my advert will encourage them to listen to it to answer their questions. The red colours give off a dangerous, tragic and bloody feel towards the radio drama, making it clear that there is a twist in the story.

This caption was most effective in giving the audience a hint into Jake’s personality and his dark side. Saying ‘everybody does’ suggests Jake is not your regular ordinary person. A character like Jake will keep the audience engaged.

The sand styled background suggests a

sand and ocean setting for the audience so that they can gather a feel towards

the radio drama is this hints its setting to the

audience; a beach.

The green, blue and yellow colours create a soft and calm feel towards the advert as it symbolises nature and the sea. The pink colours reflect Rosie’s youth and innocence in the story. The red ‘Paranoia’ sign stands out against the rest of the advert which makes it extremely y noticeable. This is effective as this along with the picture in the twist and tragedy within the radio drama. The colours help to create contrast to reflects Jake’s confused personality and thoughts against his actions.

The more curled and italic font I used gives off a more

relaxing and peaceful feel

compared to the eye capturing bright bold red capital

letters. This further creates the contrast

I wish to communicate to my

audience.

I created a more straight clear layout rather the images and fonts overlapping one another as I wanted the advert to be clear and simplistic to the viewers so that they don't have to look too into the advert to know what it is about. an advert requiring full concentration and time to understand will not appeal to the audience and may put them off the radio drama.

Putting the title at the top of the advert will make it easier for the audience to see rather than perhaps at the bottom as this may confuse them what exactly what the radio drama is called as title’s in all written documents is usually placed at the top.

In order to communicate death and murder I used fake blood on Jake’s hands to communicate the murder he has committed. Even though Rosie was drowned by Jake and no blood was actually spilled, this would symbolise the murder he has committed and how he now has “blood on his hands”.

I used a rose patterned dress to represent who she is; Rosie and a flower in her hand to represent how Rose’s remind Jake of Rosie whilst giving off a romantic and loving feel.

I particularly liked this picture. My aim here was to communicate memory loss to the audience, as this is the main theme of the story. Here we see Jake holding a burning photograph. This suggests his memory’s are gone or fading away. The fire represents the danger and tragedy of which he cannot remember. The fact that the picture is slightly blurry also stresses the idea of fading memory’s and as though he himself is fading as he is unsure of who is really is and what he is capable of as he cannot remember what he has done.
