Seeing is believing
With optical projection screens from dnp, you can
create powerful, larger-than-life visual experiences.
The combination of big display formats and unique
image quality draws viewers in irresistibly, whether you
are in a home entertainment or business environment.
Modern information society demands more powerful
display media, and the screen is always the focal
point. A bad screen can ruin the experience; a good
one can dramatically improve it. So why compromise?
Whichever way you look at it, it’s worth investing in
the best available screen technology.
Optical projection screens
dnp optical projection screens allow you to create
impressive applications in all environments and situations.
They make it possible to sell more products, share
knowledge, spread information and monitor complex
processes much more effectively. Moreover, they’re so
exclusively designed you’ll be proud to have them on
display, even when they’re not in use.
The power of the projected image

dnp optical front and rear projection screens
Award-winning performancednp optical screens have won numerous awards including the Best Buzz
Award at InfoComm in 2005 and 2006, Honoree Awards at CES
in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and the Exc!te award at CEDIA US 2007.
High image contrast is the key to perfect images in brightly
lit environments. And it is a fact that this can NOT be
achieved using a standard white front projection screen in
normal environments.
So how can customers be expected to make accurate
comparisons of the products offered? Happily, now they
can. Thanks to a research project, initiated by dnp in 2004
and carried forward by the InfoComm organisation, a
recognized ANSI standard for measuring display contrast
and image quality is now being established.
Make your projector look 7 times better
Thanks to advanced contrast-enhancement technolo-
gies, dnp optical screens dramatically boost the
perceived quality of your image. You get blacker blacks,
more vivid colours and brighter, sharper images.
In fact, scientific tests show that dnp optical screens
can enhance the contrast level of a projected image
by 7 times, compared to a similar image on a standard
white front screen. That’s the power of contrast.
Compare for yourself
The difference is clear, even to the naked eye! This split-
screen test uses a 2500 ANSI lumens DLP projector in a
brightly lit environment (450 LUX ambient light measured
on the screen surface). The bottom of the screen is a
standard front screen. The top shows a dnp optical front
projection screen.
But why not see for yourself? Just give us a call, and we
will arrange a demonstration!

When it comes to contrast, dnp sets the standard
06 >
Just a few years ago, large screen projection was
only possible in a darkened room. Now, thanks to
dnp’s optical screens and contrast-enhancement
technologies, it is possible to project high quality
images in any environment.
We offer the world’s broadest range of optical front
and rear projection screens for all kinds of environments
including meeting rooms, control rooms, TV studios,
malls, shops and home entertainment.
Easy to install; plenty of choice
The screens can be hung on walls individually or
together, with practically no seams. They can be built
into walls and video-cubes, mounted in mobile units or
hung in free space. Each screen type offers several
display formats, frames and features. So you can
choose a screen that meets your exact needs.

We offer the world’s most extensive range of high-contrast screens, enabling you to project quality images in all kinds
of situations, even where there is a high level of ambient light.
Improve your image in all kinds of situations
> 03
With dnp optical projection screens, you can create
powerful, larger-than-life visual experiences. The
combination of big display formats and unique image
quality is highly compelling. It helps you grab and keep
your viewers’ attention in all kinds of situations from
meeting rooms to shopping centres.
Get more out of your projector When planning to upgrade your AV system, you might
be tempted to buy a more powerful projector. In reality,
upgrading to a dnp screen could well prove to be more
cost-effective and deliver better results. That’s because
our screens use light so effectively that they can be
successfully combined with smaller, more cost-effective
and energy-efficient projectors. So you get a high
performing AV system at a lower total cost. If you
choose a low energy projector, the system will also be
more environmentally friendly.
Why choose an optical projection screen?Optical projection screens from dnp have an advanced
optical lens system, which enables you to control
the projected image for maximum impact – even in
brightly-lit environments.
While conventional front and rear projection screens
spread the light in all directions, our screens enhance
the image for optimum viewing by focusing and
concentrating the projected light. The difference is
obvious, even to the naked eye.

dnp Rear projection screens
If you are looking for the ultimate in image quality and you
have room for a built-in solution, optical rear projection
is for you. In rear projection systems, the projector is
positioned behind the screen. This means that a presenter
can stand in front of the image without being blinded by
the projector or casting shadows onto the presentation.
And with the technical equipment hidden behind the
screen, the room remains quiet, clean and tidy.

Good ideas deserve a perfect presentation. And with
optical projection screens from dnp you can really do
them justice. Although it only represents a small part
of the total AV budget, the screen is arguably the most
important element. It’s the face of the entire presen-
tation system and the point of delivery for your message!
A good screen can dramatically enhance the image
quality. A cheaper one can ruin your image – which
makes it a false economy in the long run.
Today, most architects specify high levels of natural
ambient light when they design meeting and conference
rooms. Under these circumstances, traditional projec-
tion screens do not perform well. But our high-contrast
optical screens do. dnp optical screens are available as
front projection or built-in rear projection solutions to
suit any presentation situation.
Why not take a look at the installation examples on the
following pages? Or visit our web site for case studies
and more details.
Improve your image!

First impressions last
First impressions have lasting effects, and for company
visitors the reception area is their first point of contact.
That’s why more and more forward-thinking companies
are installing large screens in their reception areas.
Using high quality screens from dnp, you can present
your corporate presentations or news broadcasts.
You can captivate visitors with panoramic, peaceful and
constantly changing footage from the great outdoors.
Choose whatever type of footage suits your corporate
identity and brand values. It will not only enhance the
first impression your company gives, but at the same
time entertain waiting customers!
An optical projection screen from dnp is not a traditional
screen. It is an advanced optical lens system, which
enables you to control the projected image for maximum
impact – even in brightly-lit environments.
While conventional front and rear projection screens
spread the light in all directions, dnp screens enhance
the image for optimum viewing by focusing and concen-
trating the projected light.
The difference is clear. dnp optical screens can enhance
the contrast level of a projected image by up to 7 times
compared to a similar image on a standard white front
screen. This split screen test uses a 2500 ANSI lumens
DLP projector and a 92” screen in a brightly-lit environ-
ment (450 LUX ambient light measured on the screen
surface). The bottom of the screen is a standard front
projection screen. The top half shows a dnp optical front

Eye-catching technology
To convey your arguments successfully, you need the
audience’s full attention. Until recently this was hard
to achieve as large screen projection was only pos-
sible in a darkened room, which broke the connection
between audience and presenter. Now, thanks to dnp’s
optical screens, you can project high quality images in
any situation, including broad daylight.
Consider the advantages as a presenter: To start with,
you can leave the lights on. You are not blinded by the
contrast between bright light from the projector and
the darkness of the room. You can maintain eye contact
with your audience and read their facial expressions.
You can even clarify a point by drawing on a whiteboard.
What’s more, your viewers can take notes without straining
their eyes.
Video conferencing and tele-presence are great ways
to cut travel costs, while enabling people to work in
geographically dispersed teams. With dnp screens
you can create a virtual meeting experience unlike any
other. For video conferencing cameras to work well it is
normally recommended they work in environments with
high ambient light (typically > 800 lux). Such lightning
levels will wash out the image of non-optical projection
screens, which is why dnp is the absolute market leader
in this application.
Life-like images give a true sense of proximity to long-
distance meetings. Team members can monitor their
colleagues’ expressions and body language, almost as
if they were in the same room.

Traditionally, using a conventional projection screen
for teaching meant choosing between two evils: you
either had to project into a well lit room and live with
weak, washed out images, or risk causing eye-strain
and head-aches by projecting a bright image in a
darkened room.
Now, thanks to dnp’s revolutionary screen technology,
you no longer have to choose. Since dnp screens
allow you to project high-contrast images into brightly-lit
rooms, you won’t tire your viewer’s eyes. Your audience
will be able to concentrate better and to learn more.
After all, that’s what they’re there for.
Conventional front-projected images simply don’t
perform well with the bright lighting systems typically
used in conference halls. In these situations, only dnp
optical screen technology provide satisfactory quality.
Studies show that in order for a viewer to see detailed
information clearly, the minimum acceptable contrast
is 15:1. dnp’s optical front projection screen, Supernova,
was the world’s first front screen to break the 15:1
contrast barrier. Our rear projection screens offer
contrast ratios way above this level.
dnp Supernova Screens make colours far more vivid
and images more detailed than standard screens – and
the Supernova Infinity Screen variant can be used to
create displays in any size.
For extra bright conference rooms, the dnp Giant Wide
Angle Screen – the world’s largest optical rear projection
screen – guarantees superior image contrast and
excellent visibility from all positions in even the largest
conference room.

boardroom projects all over the world at your disposal.
Our authorized distributors can provide you with all the
installation support you require, including frames and
rigs. We would also be happy to give you a personal
demonstration. After all, seeing is believing…
Optical projection screens from dnp offer bigger sizes
and higher resolution than any flat panel screen.
Compared with conventional projection screens they
deliver much better image contrast and brightness.
But which screen type exactly, and which projection
method, will suit your needs best?
In general, optical dnp rear projection screens give
the best image, but they also require more space for
a built-in solution. Optical dnp front projection screens
are extremely space-efficient, but are less resistant to
ambient light, compared to dnp rear projection screens.
The matrix1) below will help you find the screen that best
suits your needs. Visit www.dnp-screens.com for further

Information displays
We all know what it’s like to sit in an airport lounge,
too far away from the departures board to actually
read it.You’ve only got two options: to stand and wait
directly in front of the screen or get up every 5 minutes
and check it. (If you’re lucky, no-one will have taken
your seat while you’re away). Unique dnp screen
technology changes all this. Our screens have the vital
attribute required for information displays in airports,
railway stations, museums, reception areas, shopping
malls and other large spaces - the information on them
is easily visible, even at a distance.
Whatever the message you want to display, and where-
ever you want to display it, we have the technology you
need. Select a display that is optimised for long or short
viewing distances; for horizontal and/or vertical viewing
angles; for display of video and/or data and for location
in medium or brightly lit environments.
An impressive array of dnp Supernova front projection screens at Manchester Airport in the UK.
The top half shows a dnp optical front
projection screen.
Award-winning performance
dnp optical screens have won numerous awards including the
Best Buzz Award at InfoComm in 2005 and 2006, Honoree
Awards at CES in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and the Exc!te award
at CEDIA US 2007. The Supernova 08-85 screen material has
earned ISF approval.

Eye-catching technology
Nothing is more likely to catch the attention of shoppers
and passers-by than a billboard-sized moving image
display. And with so many purchasing decisions based
on impulse at the Point of Sale, the opportunity is too
good to miss! Use sales-boosting dnp optical projection
screens to:
> advertise and provide information about your products
> highlight campaign offers
> enhance your brand or store image
> create an exciting atmosphere
Expand your store virtually with a “flying” screen that
takes up zero floor space. The dnp Ultra Contrast rear
projection screen displays high-quality moving images in
brightly-lit environments, making it perfect for a window
or in-store display. If you prefer a wall-mounted front
screen or a built-in rear projection display, dnp also
offers a wide range of screens optimized for the special
light conditions in malls and shops.
Large-screen displays provide a new source of adver-
tising revenue for shopping centres, airports, railway
stations and their contractors. Here are some of the
many ways they add value:
> synergies between Point of Sale and TV advertising
> dynamic content updated via the Internet
> reach specific customer groups at a certain time
> use sales data to measure the impact of a
campaign instantly
While posters, billboards and other traditional retail
media are static, dnp optical projection screens allow
advertisers to use moving images and to make links
with TV ads and other media.
Today’s broadband technology makes it easy to distri-
bute movie ads over the Internet to a network of large
screen displays strategically placed in chain stores or
supermarkets.
Advertisers can target specific consumer groups cost-
effectively by varying their message at different locations
and times of the day, week or month.

Advertising revenue
dnp offers many in-store solutions with both front- and rear projection screens.
06 >
In night clubs, discotheques, bars, game halls and casi-
nos, customers are drawn in by an intriguing or exciting
atmosphere. It’s a competitive business, and these
days a few LCD or plasma screens dotted about simply
won’t impress them. On the other hand, wall-to-wall dnp
screens can really put the ‘wow’ into the total customer
experience.
dnp screens guarantee perfect picture quality, regardless
of the prevailing light conditions. And they’re not just
decorative. Watch revenues rise as satisfied customers
return to enjoy a sporting experience or a life-like enter-
tainment event at your venue.
The exceptional size and quality of dnp screens make
them a natural choice for large arenas. Our screens
make it possible for spectators to get even more closely
involved in the game by showing replays, player profiles
and statistics. When it comes to fast-moving sports
such as ice hockey or basketball, big screen replays
are regarded as part of the action. During the breaks,
the same screens can be used for entertainment and
to promote sponsors or advertise food, beverages and
event-related merchandising.

Ltd. With a total annual turnover of USD 16 billion and approximately 48.000
employees, the DNP Group is one of the world’s largest printing and media
companies.
The screen is the focal point of the entire control room
system. It is the point of delivery for the mission critical
information. This makes the process of specifying
screens extremely important.
A bad or wrongly specified screen can ruin the image.
A good screen can dramatically enhance the quality
of the projected image – and display sharp, high-
contrast images under the ambient light conditions that
characterize the ergonomically correct control room.
This is why the world’s leading cube manufacturers use
optical rear projection screens from dnp for their cube
walls and control room display systems.
The dnp screen is an active partner that allows you to
focus, enhance and control the projected images. And
helps you battle critical issues such as ambient light,
reflections and difficult viewing angles.
With dnp’s extensive programme of control room
displays you can work dynamically with essential
parameters including:
> screen size, resolution, format
> contrast, gain, and viewing angles
> built-in depth and focal length
> brightness and colour uniformity
> humidity, temperature and material stability
This brochure will help you identify the ideal mix
of screen parameters – and to specify the correct
screen type and model for each individual control
room project.
dnp provides you with more options
dnp offers the world’s most extensive range of screens for different control room environments. Working with dnp, you have access to 8 different
screen types, which are available in various versions. This allows you to optimize your displays to each individual control room environment.
Specifying control room displays
> 03
Contrast, gain and viewing angles
When specifying a control room screen, it is important
to find the ideal balance between contrast, gain and
viewing angles as these parameters affect each other:
enhanced contrast and wider viewing angles will auto-
matically result in lower gain; enhanced gain can be
obtained by accepting reduced contrast and viewing
angles – and vice versa.
dnp has designed a wide range of optical screens for
different control room environments. In order to specify
the ideal screen for your specific installation, you should
begin by identifying the system requirements:
> how bright should the image be for the viewer?
> what should the image contrast ratio be?
> what is the level of ambient light in the room?
> where are the operators seated relative to the screen?
Most of these data are normally available when you
design your system. The remaining data can be calcu-
lated by using the equations for image brightness and
image contrast ratio. If the viewing room has a high
level of ambient light, the screen reflection alone (not
the projector contrast ratio) defines the image contrast.
Therefore it is essential to be able to control the ambient
light in the viewing room and to choose a screen with
low front surface reflectance. Image contrast varies in
direct relation to image brightness. This is why it is vital
to include the planned viewing angles in your installation
design, so viewers in the widest positions also expe-
rience both good brightness and contrast. dnp Black
Bead and Cross Prism Screens feature unparalleled
contrast and excellent viewing angles so that all viewers
experience maximum contrast. Competing screens offer
less contrast and more narrow viewing angles, resulting
in even poorer contrast when viewed from the side.
Screen Size
The size of the screen is normally the first thing to be
determined when designing a control room. The screen
size depends on two issues: the amount and form of
information to be displayed; and the viewing positions of
the operators.
The important thing is that all information displayed
should be easy for the human eye to view, read and
understand. Make a pre-design of the graphical
interface, and use the below guidelines from the DIN
standard to calculate the screen size:
> the viewing distance should not be more than
200 times the height of the character size
> the viewing distance should not be less than 2 x or
larger than 8 x the height of the section of the image
which is being viewed. The ideal viewing position is
4 x the image height
Resolution
The ideal screen size and thus viewing distance also
depends on the resolution of the projector. All dnp
screens have a native resolution, far higher than even
the highest resolution projectors can currently deliver.
This ensures that each individual pixel projected by the
projector can be clearly perceived on the screen.
Format
When selecting a screen format, it is very important
to fit the native format of the engine. By forcing the
engine to run in a different format, you will lose image
definition, which is a key parameter in control room
displays.

* When calculating image brightness, always use the screen gain related to the position of the operator in the most difficult viewing position (e.g. 30° to the side of the screen) – not the screen peak gain.
The built-in depth is a critical issue in most control
rooms. The key issue is to minimize the cube depth
without losing brightness uniformity. This makes the
screen focal length a key parameter.
Today, most engines are equipped with optics with a
lens throw ratio (LTR) in the range of 0.6 – 0.9:1. This
means that the projection distance is shorter than the
screen width. The built-in depth can be further reduced
by almost 40% by “folding” the light path with an
optical mirror.
It is very important to choose a screen focal length
which matches the projection distance of the projector,
in order to obtain brightness uniformity with all
neighbouring screens in a cube wall.
With dnp’s extensive range of screens for control rooms
it is easy to make this match, as each screen type and
size is available with up to four different focal lengths.
For optimum viewing, you can choose between single
element screens (with two active lens surfaces) and
double element screens (four active lens surfaces),
using the guidelines below.
Double element screens:
The four active lenses will always give you ideal
brightness uniformity no matter which LTR to be used.
Single element screens:
Single element screens provide better brightness
uniformity as projection distance increases.
Built-in depth and focal length
06 >
Projection distance is equal to the screen focal length.
Projection distance is longer than the screen focal length.
Projection distance is shorter than the screen focal length.
Material stability humidity/temperature
One of the most competitive issues in modern control
rooms is to make the cube installations as seamless
as possible. Today, the gap between each screen in a
standard cube wall is in the range of 0.2 – 1.0 mm.
This means that you have to pay special attention to two
critical issues:
> each screen must be cut with the highest precision
> the screens must react as little as possible to
changes in humidity and room temperature
Today, most control rooms use air conditioning. But
even the smallest changes in temperature or humidity
can cause some screens to contract/expand, thus
resulting in wider gaps or screen distortion, if the frame
system is too rigid. All dnp screens are high-precision
products made from polymer materials, which are
relatively resistant to variations in room temperature and
humidity. In the UCS programme, we have implemented
a copolymer material, which is even more environmen-
tally stable than other acrylic materials.
The latest innovation from our labs is the dnp Cross
Prism Screen (XPS). The Cross Prism Screen is made
from a newly developed copolymer material with very
low expansion coefficients. This screen is virtually
immune to changes in room humidity.
The thermal expansion coefficient for each screen
type can be found in the individual specification
sheets at www.dnp.dk. For information on humidity
absorption, please refer to the document ”Dimensional
stability of dnp rear projection screens in relation to
temperature and humidity” which can be downloaded
at www.dnp.dk.
72 x 67” dnp New wide Angle Screens.
Brightness uniformity is particularly critical in cube
installations. If the viewers are positioned right in front
of the wall, you need to make sure that neighbouring
screens project their light perpendicular to the screen.
If the screen focal length is too long or too short – thus
spreading or narrowing the light – you will lose brightness
uniformity.
When the operator is positioned away from the centre,
however, it is important that the screens have very good
viewing angles. The better the viewing angles, the better
the brightness uniformity. The dnp screen programme
includes screens which allow you to enhance horizontal
as well as vertical viewing angles, depending on your
room design. As a basic guideline, you should follow
these principles:
> the horizontal viewing angle is the most important,
if e.g. the cube system is a 2 high by 8 wide
configuration, then the vertical viewing angles are
less critical
> the horizontal and vertical viewing angle are
both important, if e.g. the cube system is a 3 by
3 configuration
In order to specify the right screen, please see the
section about viewing angles.
Another key parameter in the control room is colour
uniformity. The colour uniformity is basically controlled
by the engine, but is also influenced by the screen, as
the screen controls the contrast of the image. Depending
on which type of screen you choose, more or less image
contrast can be acheived thus the colour temperature is
variable. To make sure that the screens you use for your
video wall has the exact same colour temperature you
should follow these guidelines:
> always specify high quality screens from the same
manufacturer
> always specify colour matched engines from the
manufacturer
Furthermore, it is important to adjust the colours so that
the engine and the screen together produce an image
with colours which fit the displayed images. Even small
differences in colour can irritate the eye. And if the
difference is too big, the operator will lose focus on the
information.

50” or 60” flat screen. Now, optical front and rear
projection screens from dnp push this limit way beyond
150” and deliver the contrast you need to get rich,
vivid colours and razor-sharp details, even in high
ambient light. Why not take a look at the installation
examples on the following pages? Or visit our website
for case stories and further inspiration.
Captivating image quality!

The top half shows a dnp optical front
projection screen.
Award-winning performance
dnp optical screens have won numerous awards including the
Best Buzz Award at InfoComm in 2005 and 2006, Honoree
Awards at CES in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and the Exc!te award
at CEDIA US 2007. The Supernova 08-85 screen material has
earned ISF approval.

Large display size is scientifically proven to enhance the
user experience and intensify the audience’s emotional
response to a game. By occupying your whole field of
vision, the screen draws you irresistibly into the action.
A role playing adventure becomes much more absorbing
when there are no other visual distractions. And a face
to face battle is far more convincing when your virtual
opponent is life-size.
dnp screens add a powerful extra dimension to gaming
by combining a life-size format with crisp, sharp images
and perfect colour saturation - even in broad daylight.
There’s simply no comparison with a traditional 17˝
monitor. If you’ve invested in a PS3 or Xbox 360, why
not do it justice with a high quality dnp screen?

Eye-catching technology
A brighter way of living
Thanks to dnp optical screens, you can at last bring the
home cinema projection system up from the basement
and put it in the living room. Unlike normal front or rear
projection screens, dnp screens perform effectively in
bright environments, so you don’t even have to draw
the curtains! You don’t have to worry about washed-out
images or fumbling around in the dark. No eye-strain, no
nodding off. Just enjoy a gripping viewing experience.
To truly do justice to next-generation digital TV services
and the enhanced picture definition they offer, you need
large image format and high contrast. Only dnp screens
can provide both.

dnp screens complement any living room. They are
available in a range of formats, colours and sizes with a
timeless discreet design that can enhance your interior
in lots of ways.
Mount your screen on the wall and make a feature of it.
Have it built into the wall with projection equipment
hidden behind the screen. When you’re not using it,
the screen can display relaxing views - a sunset in the
Maldives, the first snow in the Alps, or a slideshow of
your holiday pictures. You can even take it a step further
and stream a panorama from a video camera – so real
that it feels like an extra window!

It’s no coincidence that so many home theatre
enthusiasts choose to upgrade their standard front
screen with an optical Supernova Screen from dnp.
Optical dnp screens perform so much better than normal
white front projection screens - also in dark rooms like
home theatres. Black levels are superior, grey colours
contain more details, and colour images have greater
depth. If you’ve just invested in a Blue-Ray DVD system,
why not install a dnp screen and experience the true
quality difference? For the ultimate cinema-like viewing
experience, dnp’s Supernova Epic Screen features a
perfectly curved screen that stimulates the feeling of
being “surrounded” by the display and enhances the
perceived depth and uniformity of the image.
An electronically controlled masking system adjusts
screen width to fit any movie format. Velvet curtains glide
silently open and shut at the screening’s start and finish.
dnp also offers an exclusive selection of other front
projection screens -as well as rear projection screens
for built-in solutions. See the screen selection guide on
page 10 for more details.

Optical projection screens from dnp offer bigger sizes
and higher resolution than any flat panel screen.
Compared with conventional projection screens they
deliver much better image contrast and brightness.
But which screen type exactly, and which projection
method, will suit your needs best?
In general, optical dnp rear projection screens give
the best image, but they also require more space for a
built-in solution. Optical dnp front projection screens
are extremely space-efficient, but are less resistant to
ambient light, compared to dnp rear projection screens.
The matrix1) below will help you find the screen that best
