Visual History Project Explanation• I want to try to get students thinking about how America has approached the

issue of environment, from its early days to the present. With the series of pictures I have chosen I am hoping to get students thinking about whether or not or good intentions have had positive results, and what we could do in the future (and maybe even what the students can do individually) to help preserve our environment for use by generations to come.

• Allow the students time to absorb each picture, about ten seconds per picture the first time around; once you have reached the end of the pictures, go back to the beginning, and allow 30 seconds per picture this second time around. The reason I think you should go through the picture more quickly the first time around is so that the students can hopefully get a feel for what the historical theme is. I want the second time around to be much slower so that the students can reason out the connections between the pictures, as well as their connection to their present and the ability of the pictures to comment upon the issue at hand in the presentation.
