VISUAL STORY RELAXED PERFORMANCE – SUNDAY 18 JUNE, 2PM

2

INTRODUCTION Relaxed Performances are specifically designed to welcome people who will benefit from a more relaxed performance environment and can include people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorders or a learning disability. There is a relaxed attitude to noise and movement and some small changes made to the light and

sound effects during the performance. There will also be breakout spaces outside of the theatre’s

auditorium for those who may become anxious during the performance.

WOULD YOU LIKE A FAMLIARISATION VISIT? We can arrange for you to come to the theatre to look around the space and find your seat before the day. Please contact our General Manager, Mark Gambrill on [email protected] for more information.

GENERAL INFORMATION Where are we? The Railway Children is being shown at the Exeter Northcott Theatre which is right in the middle of Exeter University’s Streatham Campus. Here is a photo of the outside of the theatre. Our Address Exeter Northcott Theatre Stocker Road Exeter EX4 4QB You can see us on Google Street View here Parking & Transport There are four big car parks on the campus labelled A - D. Car park C is the nearest to the theatre and car parks A – B are a 5-10 minute walk away. The map to the right shows where they are in relation to the theatre. You can get the theatre using the bus. The D & H buses go directly from the city centre and stop right outside the theatre. Up to date fares can be found here. You can find the bus timetables here.

FINDING YOUR WAY AROUND When you arrive for the show you can either enter through the Main Doors at the front of the theatre on the ground floor (where the Box Office, Confectionary Desk and Toilets can be found) or through the Side Door which takes you straight into the first floor to our bar and restaurant area. Whichever way you come in you can move between the three floors at the theatre using the lift or the stairs. There is a small drop off point at the front of theatre and disabled parking bays located at the back of the theatre near the side door entrance.

YOUR TICKET

COLLECTING YOUR TICKETS The Box Office is right behind the

main doors and is very easy to find.

If you haven’t had your tickets posted or e-mailed to you, you will need to collect them from the team at the box office. They may ask you for your name and postcard to help find the right tickets.

Your ticket will look similar to the one

pictured right and will have the door

number and seat number on it. If you

have collected your tickets earlier, or

have had them posted to you, you can

go straight through in to the foyer

area.

THE LIFT

There is a lift situated to the left of the box office. You can use this to get up to our bar and restaurant area as well as right to the top of the theatre and accessible toilet which is on the 2nd floor.

ICE-CREAM AND SWEETS If you would like any sweets, chocolate, ice cream or a programme (which will contain lots more information about the show) you can buy them at the Confectionary Desk in

the foyer on the first floor. This is open before the performance, throughout the interval and after the performance has finished. You will also be able to buy merchandise here like toys and books to remind you of your visit.

TOILETS Downstairs you will also find the boys and girls toilets. The girls is the first door on the left as you walk in to the foyer and the boys is further down the foyer past the ice cream and sweets counter.

6

STAIRS If you don’t want to take the lift you can also take the stairs up to our bar and restaurant area.

RESTAURANT & BAR Our restaurant, The View and its fully licensed Bar are a fantastic place to get a drink before or after the show. We advise pre-ordering your drinks for the interval to avoid having to queue. You can also book a delicious meal to enjoy here before the performance. Sample menus can be found here and a drinks menu here.

WHERE WILL I SEE THE PERFORMANCE? Our performances take place in our 460 seat auditorium. Each row is labelled with a letter and each seat with a number. Our friendly and helpful Front of House stewards will be on the door checking your tickets and showing you to your correct seat. They are stationed at each entrance in to the auditorium.

8

IT’S SHOWTIME! Doors to the auditorium open approximately 20 minutes before the

start of the show. This gives us enough time to make sure everyone

can get to their seat. One of our Stage Management team will

announce the start of the show up to the 30 minutes prior to the start

time of the show. This happens over a tannoy which can be heard all

over the theatre (even in the toilets). The Stage Manager will also give

an announcement 5 minutes before to the start of the performance.

THE SHOW The show will last no more than 1 hour 30 minutes with a 20 minute interval.

WHAT’S THE SHOW ABOUT? The story is set in 1906 and revolves around a family who move from London to "The Three

Chimneys", a house near the railway in Yorkshire. They move after their father, who works at the

Foreign Office, is imprisoned after being wrongly accused of spying. The children (Peter, Phyllis and

Roberta) befriend an Old Gentleman who regularly takes the 9:15 train near their home; he is

eventually able to help prove their father's innocence, and the family is reunited.

WHAT WILL THE SHOW LOOK LIKE?

The set is still being built however the below model gives you an idea of what you can expect. The
