The Monash Health brand

A strong coherent visual identity is critical to Monash Health’s image and community reputation.

The purpose of this visual style guide is to provide guidelines that help support a consistent and cohesive visual identity.

The consistent use of these guidelines on every form of official communication reinforces awareness of Monash Health, increases our visibility, promotes our reputation as a world-leader, and builds loyalty.

The Monash Health Visual Style Guide has been produced for the use of Monash Health employees, key partners, external designers and printers.

Monash Health is Victoria’s most integrated public health service uniquely providing health care across the entire lifespan.

Our services are provided from more than 40 care locations across south-east Melbourne, including major tertiary and secondary hospitals, an extensive network of rehabilitation, community health and mental health facilities and aged residential care centres.

We pride ourselves on the delivery of high-quality health services, research and clinical education.

The Monash Health brand reinforces our position as a leading health service locally, nationally and internationally.

Monash Health Visual Style Guide4

The Monash Health logo is the image associated with the brand.

The logo is a uniquely designed image. The Monash Health logo should not be traced, redrawn, typeset or modified in any way.

Consistent application of the logo according to the guidelines set out in this manual will ensure that a high standard of presentation is maintained and a consistent message is communicated to the public.

Requests to use the logoRequests to use the logo can be made online through the Monash Health Image and Branding Library. The library is accessible at http://monashhealth.xtreme.lookat.me.com.au/ or via the Public Affairs and Communication Department homepage on the Intranet. All requests will be reviewed and considered for approval within 24 hours of the request being made Monday to Friday.

Clear space requirementsTo maximise the visual impact and legibility of the signature, a guide for clear space has been formulated. Its dimensions are in direct relationship to any size in which the signature may appear. No other graphic should be positioned inside the clear space. The clear space is the minimum surface that is required around the signature in all applications.

Minimum sizeTo maintain legibility the logotype may not be reproduced smaller than 30mm in width.

ImagesMonash Health online image library

The Public Affairs and Communication (PAC) department has an extensive collection of images that may be used for patients information and promotional materials. These include images of Monash Health buildings and sites, staff, patients and families.

Images are available for download via the Monash Health Image and Branding Library. The library is accessible at http://monashhealth.xtreme.lookat.me.com.au or via the Public Affairs and Communication Department homepage on the intranet http://intranet.southernhealth.org.au/public_affairs/default.html. All requests will be reviewed and considered for approval within 24 hours of the request being made Monday to Friday.

Sourcing images not available on the online library

If images are required that are not available on the library, alternative options are as follows. • Images may be sourced from a public online image library such as www.dreasmtime.com. Images must be approved for use by a PAC team member. • Requesting the services of a photographer from PAC to take the photos requested. Requests will be serviced depending on the availability of the PAC team. Please complete the photographer request form available here: http://intranet/public_affairs/equipment_photography_bookings.html • In some instances images may be taken by staff. In this case the use of the image must be approved by a PAC team member.

General requirements for images

• Photographic images should be of high quality and resolution (minimum 300 dpi for print). • Should preferably be natural and not overly manipulated, and be of people or venues/places. • Vector/cartoon style images are not appropriate unless required for a specific requirement eg an image of food related to a nutrition document.

• Please note that clipart is not to be used on any Monash Health publications or printed materials. Images sourced online may not be downloaded or used without the appropriate copyright permissions.• Appropriate stock images may be purchased for use with relevant copyright permissions. Public Affairs and Communication is able to assist with sourcing and purchasing images online if required.

Photographic consent

• Any patients, families or carers photographed for use in promotional material must sign a Monash Health media consent form granting permission for the image to be used for a purpose which must be clearly explained to the subject. • Copies of the consent form are available for download from the Public Affairs and Communication Department homepage at http://intranet/public_affairs/corporate_comms.htm• If you require more information regarding the use of images, please email [email protected]

Departmental sub-brands

In an organisation as large as Monash Health there are more than 200 departments and then within these departments there are also smaller teams that have their own name and purpose.

The Monash Health brand successfully encompasses all departments and should be used to promote each team.

Monash Health has a small number of brands that have been approved for use internally and externally including: Monash Children’s Hospital, MonashHeart, Monash Cancer Centre, Monash Health Foundation and SECASA. These corporate brands have been through a rigorous process of consultation including approval by the Executive Management Team and Board.

Often departments approach the Public Affairs and Communication Department with requests for a logo as the solution to make their department more recognisable.

The Public Affairs and Communication team can work with departments to create a visual identity that is in keeping with the overall Monash Health brand or create a comprehensive communication plan which will highlight the communication/promotional needs of a department and recommend strategies to meet these needs.

If you feel your department has exceptional circumstances and you would like to seek approval for implementing a brand/logo please submit a request for consideration to the Public Affairs and Corporate Communications team.
