    Section 1. Natality-Rates and Characteristics

    Summary tables containing period and cohort measures of fertility andcharacteristics of live births including plurality, birth weight, periodof gestation, attendant at birth, sex ratio, seasonal variation, andlegitimacy.

    Detailed frequency tabulations for each State, each metropolitan area,and other geographic areas of the United States. Data are shown bycolor, sex, nativity of white mother, month, age of mother and of father,birth order, attendant, birth weight, period of gestation, plurality,and legitimacy.

    Section 2. Natality— Local Area Statistics

    Frequency tabulations for each State, county, and city with a populationof 10,000 or more by color and attendant and for urban and rural andmetropolitan and nonmetropolitan areas within each State by color,attendant, and birth weight.

    Section 3. Natality— Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands

    Trends of the crude birth rate. Frequency tabulations by color, sex,month, age of mother and of father, birth order, attendant, birth weight,period of gestation, and legitimacy.

    Section 4. Technical Appendix

    Text discussion of factors affecting the collection, classification, andinterpretation of the natality statistics published in this volume. Includespopulation tables for computing vital rates.
