The Vancouver Latin American Film Festival (VLAFF) is a charitable not-for-profit organization with the mission to showcase dimensions of Latin American cultures through film and other inter-disciplinary artistic events. Now in it’s eighth year, VLAFF has the distinction of being the largest and longest-running festival of solely Latin American cinema in Canada. VLAFF has a unique capacity to reach across cultural and linguistic lines. Our audience is diverse and growing, and extends beyond the Latin American community to include people from a wide range of backgrounds.

VLAFF is a non-profit cultural promoter that showcases perspectives of Latin American cultures through new full-length feature films, documentaries and shorts films, as well as interactive panels, professional workshops and multi-disciplinary arts events. VLAFF offers a number of exceptional highlights throughout the year including:

• 62 films from 13 countries• All films were Vancouver premiers• 47 screenings on 5 theatre screens• Cultural and community events• Monthly year-round screenings• Seminars and workshops with industry leaders including Jack Green (Unforgiven, Bridges of Madison County), Roberto Schaefer (Monster’s Ball, The Kite Runner), and Academy Award winning Cinematographer Guillermo Navarro (Pan’s Labyrinth).

As VLAFF grows and becomes more established, our audience has been growing with us – on average by about 20% a year. We are proud that in 2009, despite being a recession year, we saw our audience increase to over 6,000 + and diversify to include people from a range of backgrounds.

• A variety of ages — 37% are aged 18-34; 34% are aged 35-54; and 29% are aged 55+
