VMware vFabric Application DirectorAutomated Provisioning for Applications in the Cloud

What Is VMware vFabric Application Director?VMware vFabric Application Director dramatically transforms the automation of application provisioning and release. It provides a new approach to deployment automation and self-service provisioning for multitier applications in hybrid cloud environments. Application Director standardizes how applications are designed and built, enabling customers to model once, then deploy and update applications across multiple clouds and development environments. Starting with a drag-and-drop canvas, users can layer software, scripts, configurations and dependencies atop standard virtual-machine templates directly from their cloud provider library. These application topologies, called application blueprints, can be stored for reuse and deployed easily to hybrid cloud environments.

Application Director also has an integrated online application store that provides easy access to hundreds of best-practice application components. These components enable teams to build and customize applications, reducing cost and accelerating time to value.

To deliver a complete application life cycle, Application Director is preintegrated with VMware vFabric Application Performance Manager. Together with this product, Application Director offers a solution that streamlines the process of application deployment through governance, development and maintenance. It unites developer and operations efforts with a common language for building, deploying, monitoring and optimizing high-performance business-critical applications.

How Is VMware vFabric Application Director Used?Application Director transforms cloud infrastructure, making it highly reusable and available through self-service for application teams. By standardizing infrastructure and application components, and abstracting application-specific deployment logic, these application teams can become truly untethered from the underlying cloud infrastructure and provision any applications across any cloud infrastructure with ease.

    AT A GLANCE

VMware vFabric Application Director provides a new approach to deployment automation and self-service provisioning for multitier applications in hybrid cloud environments. It enables customers to gain maximum agility by streamlining the application deployment and release process for any application on any cloud.

    KEY BENEFITS

Delivers maximum agility and efficiency by accelerating, streamlining and optimizing application deployment and release management through logical application blueprints leveraging preapproved, standardized OS and middleware components

Enables hybrid cloud deployments, delivering unmatched flexibility by supporting hybrid clouds (including Amazon EC2) and enabling teams to port applications seamlessly, moving applications between clouds without rewriting them

Accelerates time to value and reduces cost by automating the application release process across multiple development environments and clouds and enabling use of existing best-practice application infrastructure services

Empowers customers with choice by letting them select their scripting language (Python, Puppet, Ruby, etc.)

Enables a DevOps model by providing an integrated performance-monitoring solution for closed-loop application provisioning and monitoring, allowing tighter and more effective cooperation between development and operations teams
