Tom’s heart was at his feet and his

self-esteem was nowhere to be seen. At school,

there was a big, mean bully that was always taking people’s

lunches and sat wherever he wanted. Plus, his main target

was Tom. Poor soul. He couldn’t stand up to him and he as

too shy to ask for help. Tom used these tips, and the

bullying stopped. Follow these tips to help stop bullying!

Help! Okay, let’s get started. The first thing to know is

that it’s not your fault. Not one bit. Don’t feel bad

about yourself, even if someone is bullying you. To

understand bullying, you have to know what it is and

why people do it. Bulling is, hurting others physically,

emotionally or both, and enjoying seeing people feel

bad about themselves. Many kids probably bully

because, they have been bullied themselves, or are

going through hard times with their families and

have a lot of pressure or stress. Sometimes they are

not happy with something about themselves and

they try to make others feel bad.

What does a bully look for? Yep. You’re

right. Attention of any kind. If you cry, or

fight back, that’s giving them

attention. They want to see you feel

bad about yourself. That’s what they

want. So my first tip is:

Pay NO attention to bullies! No matter what!

Speak up and ask for help!

If you feel someone is bullying you, raise your

hand in front of yourself and yell, “ STOP!” If the

bullying is constant, tell an adult about it. If you

still feel uncomfortable, tell your school leaders so

they can speak to him/her and the parents.

Remember you are not the only person that has

been bullied. You are not alone. ☺ Some fourth

graders at our school, started a class club called

*The ABC (Anti- Bully Club). They talked to Mrs.

Cuesta, and made it an official school club. If you

want to sign up to help a great cause, visit Mrs.

This past January, I took

a trip to Washington, DC. It is

a beautiful city filled with

many historical places and

museums. My favorite of all

was the Holocaust Memorial

Museum. After I toured all of

the interesting exhibits in the

museum, I had the opportunity

to meet a real life Holocaust

survivor. His name is Henry

Greenbaum and he was born in Poland in 1928.

Henry shared with me that at the age of 12 he

and his family were forced by the German Army

to move to the Starachowice Ghetto. The Ghetto

was a place where the Jewish people were sent

and were not allowed to leave. Henry and his

sisters worked in a factory and stayed in the

ghetto for two years living in very difficult living

conditions.

Two of his sisters and his mother were sent

to the Treblinka concentration camp and did not

survive. A concentration camp was a place where

the Jewish people were sent to either work for

the German Army or to die in a gas chamber or

other ways. Henry and his three remaining

sisters were sent to a nearby labor camp where

they worked long and hard days. He said that it

was awful working there and that two of his

sisters died while they were there. He and his last

sister tried to escape and as a result he was shot

but luckily he survived. A year later, he was sent

to the Auschwitz concentration camp for a year.

Finally in 1945, the German

Army surrendered and Henry

life and feels very fortunate to be

BOOK REVIEW Written BY: Melissa Martinez.

The eight book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid

series is Hard Luck. It is a hilarious novel which you

should totally read. It can make you laugh or cry a few

times, but it’s a novel to die for. It’s about a kid named

Greg that is having the worst luck on Earth. Worst of

all his best friend is spending more time with his

girlfriend than with him. Well, if I say any more, I’ll

spoil the whole book. If you like this book,

there are some similar books

you should also read, Dork

Diaries and Dear Dumb Diary.

Trust me you will enjoy them

just the same! I sure did.

Those are books to remember.

If you ask me what my

favorite book series is, I would have

to say it is the Origami Yoda series

by Tom Angleberger. Most kids

haven't heard of these books and

I'm really surprised about that

because these books are awesome! In the first

book The Strangest Case of Origami Yoda, there is

a boy named Dwight who is totally weird. By

weird I mean that he shoves straws into his

hamburgers, digs holes and sits in them,

constantly repeats the word purple, and calls

squirrels for help. That kind of weird. He also has

an origami puppet of Yoda that gives extremely

good advice. I don't want to say any more because

I don't want to spoil it. I recommend picking up

this book. Once you start, you're not going to

want to stop reading. You may even want to keep

reading the other books in the series.

How the Easter Bunny Came to Be

AccordingtoAccordingtoAccordingtoAccordingtoGabrielleFuentesGabrielleFuentesGabrielleFuentesGabrielleFuentes

On the first Saturday of April, a man named Tom

Cabolli was grumbling in bed about the next day. “Easter,

why is it even a holiday? It has no meaning in my life. It is

a day when I stay home and do nothing.” He was very rich

and greedy and never gave anything to anyone; no one

knew why he acted this way. It might’ve been that he had

no family, or that he had no friends. He always wanted

more and more money.

Later that night when Tom was already in bed, still

awake, but trying to go to sleep, a mysterious blue light

crept in from underneath the door and seemed to be

beckoning him to come outside. Cautiously, Tom opened

the door to come face to face with a wizard that wore a

long indigo coat and a matching hat that had many stars on

it. The wizard had a stern looking face that was covered

with wrinkles and a long white beard. There was a long

lasting silence until the wizard spoke in a loud rumbling

voice,

“Do you not understand the meaning of Easter?”

Tom shook his head.

“No sir, I do not.” Disapprovingly, the wizard shook

his head.

“How ignorant of you. Why, it’s one of the most

important days of the year.” Tom strongly disagreed.

“It has no importance in the world it is just another

one of those unimportant-“

“Silence,” the wizard’s voice rumbled through the

mansion. “It may not mean anything to you because you

do not know the meaning of it. Easter is a day to give and

share. It is a day to care for others as you care for

yourself,” the wizard explained. “You have tonight to

show me that you can care and share with others. A ghost

will come after the twelfth bell strikes and take you to a

place where everyone is caring and loving. You will live

as they do and learn how to love others. If you do not

succeed…” Just a look from the wizard told him he would

have to do the quest in order to survive.

The night was a long one for Tom, awaiting

the ghost that was going to appear. Not until

midnight did the visitor arrive. At last the twelfth

bell rang and in a blink of an eye the ghost magically

appeared. “I have come to teach you what Easter is

really about,” said the ghost in a loud voice. With the

snap of his fingers they were taken to a small cottage

hidden in a forest where a mother, a father, and two

daughters lived. Tom could tell they were very poor

because of their ragged clothes and lack of shoes.

Tom asked the ghost, “Why are they so

happy? They have almost no money, and they are

still happy.”

“Shush, just watch.” When Tom turned to

look at what the ghost was talking about, he noticed

that the smallest of the girls had her arm in a sling

and was praying, “Thank you for the food you give

us and the water you give us and most importantly

the love that my family gives to me.” Then Tom

noticed they were back in his room and before the

ghost left he said, “This man has too much money,

and to teach him a lesson turn him into a bunny.”

Before Tom could object, a wisp of air came into the

room and Tom was a bunny.

From that day forward, Tom found out that

the true meaning of Easter is loving

and caring for people just as you

love yourself. That is why the Easter

Bunny always leaves the eggs with

candy inside because he wants to

give happiness to the world. He

completed the quest, so he is living

a happy life as a bunny who

has a reputation for giving. .

On April 20th 1970,Earth woke up

coughing in bed with a high feverfeverfeverfever . He had

hardly slept the before so he had

massive bags stamped under each .

With a thermometer in his mouth and an ice pack

on his head, he ambled through to

get to the doctor.

He paused along the way to eat some

and greet his friends: Venus and

Mercury. When Earth got to the doctor, he

found a very short in front of him so

waited patiently until the doctor called him up.

. “Planet Earth?” Planet Earth stepped

inside the doctor’s CLINIC to find out that he

had a bad case of pollutionpollutionpollutionpollution. He received his

and waved good bye to the space

doctor before going back . From

then on the humans on Earth felt guilty and

haven’t stopped trying to take better care of

Earth.

After two long days of cleaning up

pollution, the humans’ reusing, reducing, and

recycling worked to help Earth recover from his

sicknesssicknesssicknesssickness, and April 22nd became known as what

As most of you know, on March 2nd

LeBron James scored 61 points in one

game. I know what you are thinking...Yes

that is a Miami Heat franchise record for

most points in one game. He shot 9

three-pointers and made all of them in

the 4th quarter. And that doesn’t include

the rest of the shots of the game. That

day the heat beat the Charlotte Bobcats,

The Leprechaun

By: Daniel Rodriguez-Florido

There once was a leprechaun that hopped

around peoples shoes. He couldn’t get caught, for the

consequence was losing his magic. He always feared

that he would get caught, but luckily, he was sneaky.

Hopping down the street looking for depressed

children and placing a gold coin in their shoes to cheer

them up. He kept looking for hours until he found a

little boy sitting on the glossy brown porch. “What

have I done?” he said to himself. “Why did I ever think

that Carlos would have been my true friend? He

betrayed me! I should have known from the start that

he was going to betray me.” The boy started crying

into his hands.

The little leprechaun prowled up the driveway

and hid behind a tree. He was spying the boy

suspiciously. Then when the boy headed into the

house, the little leprechaun hopped down the hall to

the boy’s room. There he found 1 pair of shoes, 2 shirts,

and 1 pair of pants. By this, the leprechaun knew that

the boy was poor. He jumped into one of the shoes,

reached into his pocket, and took out a golden coin. As

he set it down, he felt a small lurch. “Wha-?” the

leprechaun thought. Then, as the boy was about to

look into the shoe, the leprechaun hopped out

unnoticed.

“Hmm, I thought I saw something move in

there,” he pondered. As if nothing happened the boy

put on his shoes. The leprechaun frantically sprinted

toward the open window and dove out. The next day,

he hopped down the same neighborhood. He saw the

same boy on the porch moping. Again, he went

through the same process of putting a coin in the shoe.

Suddenly, he felt a strong lurch, stronger than the one

before and the boy peered into the shoe. The

leprechaun was holding on to the top of the shoe. “By

golly, I could’ve sworn I saw my shoe shake,” he said.

When the boy set down his shoe and left the room, the

leprechaun dashed out the door. Once again he

jumped down the street.

For the third time, the boy was sitting at the

porch with puffy cheeks. This time, before the

leprechaun could reach the shoe, the boy entered the

room, thinking that the shoe would conceal him if he

hopped in it. He felt a lurch that was much, much,

stronger. Then, all went dark. The boy had shut the exit

of the shoe. Soon, the leprechaun heard a voice calling

“Mom! Mom! I found a tiny creature!”

The leprechaun felt thumps on the

floor. Clearly, the boy was running to

his mom. “What is it sweetie?” the

mom asked. “Look!” he said opening

the shoe. The leprechaun was spotted.

Sham‘Rockin’ Jokes

Q: Why do people wear shamrocks on St. Patrick’s Day? Because real rocks are too heavy!

Q: Why can’t you iron a four-leafed clover? Because you don’t want to press your luck!

Q: What type of bow cannot be tied? A rain-bow!

Q: Why do frogs like St. Patrick’s Day? Because they’re already wearing green!

An Irish Mistake

St. Patrick’s Day just passed a few weeks

ago. Which reminds me about a really funny

story. It all started two weeks ago when I

bought this new soap that was clover scented.

It really smelled amazing, When I found out

that the same company made a deodorant

that smelled exactly like the soap, I bought

it. A few days later, I got my deodorant and

read the label. I soon discovered that my

deodorant was made for boys (or as the Irish

say lads)! I kept reading to then find out it

was also made for boys using it to as a

“magnet” to attract girls (or lasses in Irish).

Well, all I have to say is that it sure

attracted me and now I’MI’MI’MI’M the one using it.

Get a good night’s sleep.. Have a good breakfast. Try to use all the tips your teacher gave you. . Reading: Read the title of the story. It can give you a hint on what the story is about. . Read every question carefully. Underline the part of the story that gave you the details to choose the answer. . Math: Look for key words in the question that tell you how to solve it. Always show your work. Sometimes it helps to draw a picture. Science: Read the questions very carefully because it can give you clues. Watch the discovery channel or do practice experiments at home just for fun.

I sat down with three of DAC’s best teachers to give

you some pre-FCAT advice. So, the question is: What is

one piece of advice you’ll give all students for FCAT?

MS. WHEELER - 5th Grade

“Go back and check your answers!!!”

MS. RODRIGUEZ - 4th Grade

“Be confident, trust, and believe in yourself…

and you’ll make a big difference!”

MS. GORDILLO - 3rd Grade

“Think positive and give 100% effort. If you feel ready

there is nothing to be worried about!”

I know all the students at DAC will

do great this school year and get

awesome scores on the FCAT. If

you give 100% and try your best

that is definitely enough. Good

luck from a fellow DAC student.

The big day is almost here. Here are some words to
