service.Ifthesestepsdonotassistyouinresolving
yourissue,theCompanyAdministratorshouldraisea
supportrequestwiththeirVodafoneCustomer
Servicesteam.
Bounced emailsMessagesmaybe‘bounced’backtothesenderfora
numberofreasons.
• Systemlimitshavebeenreached.Thissettingis
fortheentire(webandemail)systemforyour
company.Thelimitsmaybeforthenumberof
messagesperdayorperhour.
• TheemailtoSMSfeaturehasbeendisabledfor
thecompany.
• SMSviaemailfunctionalityisnotenabledforthe
specificlogin.
• IncorrectdetailsstoredintheonlineAddress
Book.Loginandconfirmthephonenumberis
correctfortheAliasyouareusing.
• Messagestophonenumbersarebounced.Your
securitysettingsmaynotallowyoutosendSMS
tophonenumbers,therecipientwillneedtobe
configuredinyouronlineAddressBook.
• Replyingtoagroupemail,fromyouremail
client,(ReplyToAll)thatincludedsomeemailto
SMSrecipientsintheToorCCfields.Thiswill
sendanEmailtothesystem,whichwilltryand
assignittoyouraccountsoitcanusetheAlias
orphonenumber.IfthisAliasmatchfailsthe
messagewillgetbounced.

Messages not received1.TheservicefollowsRFC-2822(http://rfc.net/
rfc2822.html)guidelinesformessageformat.
MessagesthatdonotconformtoRFC-2822may
notbeprocessedormaybeprocessedincorrectly.
2.Ifthemessagestatusinthewebmessagelogis
RECEIVED,checkthatthecorrectphonenumberis
storedintheonlineaddressbookfortheAliasthat
wasused.
3.IPAuthenticationfailed.Youmaybesendingyour
emailfromanIPaddressthathasnotbeen
authenticatedbyyourAdministrator.For
informationonaspecificIPvisithttp://centralops.
net.Thissitewilltellyoudetailedtechnical
informationonIP’s,domainsandemailaddresses.
4.Senderemailaddressisnotconfiguredtousethe
system.CheckwithyourAdministratorthatyour
addressisassignedtoanaccountandthatSMSvia
emailisenabledforBOTHtheCompanyandthe
Account.
5.IfasenderaccountisunabletosendSMSviaemail,
checkthatemailtheyaresendinghasthecorrect
‘return-path’intheinternetheaders.InMSOutlook
theheaderscanbefoundbyopeningtheemail
message,andselectingview,optionsfromthe
menubar.Thereturn-pathisshowninthefirstline
oftheinternetheaderssection.
6.Messagesforwardedfromemailarenotdelivered
tothephone.Mostemailsystemsdonotalterthe
internetheadersofanemail;thereforethe
‘return-path’ofamessageistheoriginalmessage
sender.Unlesstheoriginalsenderisalso
configured,themessagewillnotbedelivered.
7.Messagessent‘onbehalfof’anotheruserviaMS
ExchangeorLotusNotesdonotgetdelivered.
Eventhoughtheuserbeing‘sentonbehalfof’is
configured,thereturn-pathisgoingtobethe
actualsendersaddress.Itisimportantthatthe
sendersaddressisconfiguredinthesystem.
8.Serveralertsarenotbeingdelivered.Generallya
serverwilluseadefaultaddresswhensending
email.Thisaddressisgenerallyoneofthe
followingformats,eachaddressisinvalid(doesnot
meetinternetstandards)andwillneedtobe
changedtoanaddressthatisconfiguredinthe
system,forexample

9.Serveralertsfromaninternetstandardaddressare
notdelivered.Someserversusetheaddressformat
of‘[email protected]’.Whilstthis
isvalid,itwillneedtobesetupinthesystem
beforemessagescanbedelivered.Eachsubdomain
(inthiscase‘server.yourDomain.com.au’needsto
beconfiguredseparately.Somemessagedelays
maybeexperiencedduetoNetworkloading.
10.Theoriginalmessagemaybedelayedonanemail
server(ISPorcorporate).
WarningThisserviceshouldnotbereliedontodeliver
importantortimesensitiveinformation.Thisisdueto
thelimitationsofemailroutinganddeliverysystems
aswellasthearchitectureofSMSmessagedelivery.

Replies to emailed SMS messages are not sent back to the correct address1.Checkyouremailsettingsforthesenderemail
address.Generally,itisthissenderaddressthat
translatestothe‘return-path’internetheaderthat
thesystemusestosendsrepliesto.
2.Eachemailsystemwillhaveadifferentwayof
configuringthesenderaddress.Ifyouneed
assistance,contactyourITManager.
3.Ifthe(mobile)userhasstoredthenumberofa
messagetheyreceivedfromthesystemontheir
handset,thismaynolongerbecorrectlyrouted.
Weusetechnologythatutilisestemporaryreply
pathsforsendingmessagesandroutingreplies.
Theydoexpireandmayroutetodifferentaccounts
atthattime.
Incomplete message sent to recipientsBydefaultSMSmessagesarelimitedto160
characters.ThesystemtakestheEmailSubjectLine
andappendsasmuchoftheEmailMessageasitcan,
upto160characters.160charactersareaboutthe

sendyoursubjectline,ifoneisused,andthetext
