Vodafone McLaren Mercedes

Goss appointed Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Technical Director Article By: di-ve.com news

[email protected]

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes has announced that Tim Goss, formerly the team's Director of

Engineering, has been appointed to the position of Technical Director.

Tim joined McLaren in 1990 as a Development Engineer, and has been a central and

successful stalwart of the team's engineering and technical function ever since, leading car

design operations since his elevation to Director of Engineering in January 2011.

Tim Goss said, "I'm delighted to have been offered the Technical Directorship of Vodafone

McLaren Mercedes - one of the most prestigious positions in global sport - and I'm greatly

looking forward to making a significant contribution to Vodafone McLaren Mercedes'

ongoing success in that role.

Martin Whitmarsh added "I'd like to offer my congratulations to Tim on his new position,

which, after more than 20 years of exceptional service for McLaren, he richly deserves.

"His quiet and unassuming persona conceals a fierce competitiveness and a wealth of

experience, coupled to an unrivalled level of expertise in the field of Formula 1 car design and

engineering.

"It's a little-known fact, for example, that over the past 23 years he's made crucial technical

and engineering contributions to the winning of five of McLaren's 12 Drivers' World

Championships and three of McLaren's eight Constructors' World Championships, and that

he's been the principal definer and developer of McLaren's F1 car design function for more

than five years.

Page 8: Vodafone online monitor, 270213

CLIENT: VODAFONE DIRECT MEDIUM: DI-VE.COM DATE: 26 FEBRUARY 2013

"In line with what Tim has said, I firmly believe that our technical and engineering team is the

best in the F1 business, and that its strength in depth has always been and will continue to be

an important element of our on-track success.

"Moreover, I'm certain that, in his expanded role, Tim will continue to lead it very capably

indeed, and will evolve and improve it. That's his brief, and it's already clear that he's

prepared to embrace it with energy and enthusiasm.

"In truth, though, this is a natural evolution in Tim's already very successful career, and the

fact that the decision to offer him our Technical Directorship was so straightforward for

Jonathan and me demonstrates two things: the robust and logical succession-planning that

underpins the senior engineering personnel structure within Vodafone McLaren Mercedes,

and the commitment we have to developing our people, over many years, allowing their talent

and expertise to flourish in a collaborative and collegiate environment.

"Paddy Lowe will be performing a different role within McLaren until the end of the year.

He's been a good and successful F1 Technical Director, and we wish him well when he

embarks on a fresh challenge in 2014."

HSBC Malta participating in HSBC Global Water Programme

Posted By Gozo News On February 25, 2013 @ 3:30 pm In Malta News | No Comments

Malta will be one of the first countries in the HSBC Group to contribute towards WaterAid projects through employee voluntary fundraising initiatives, thereby providing additional support to communities all over the globe benefitting from the Water Programme.

This was announced by HSBC Water Programme European Coordinator Chris Goode, guest speaker at HSBC’s internal conference Let’s Lead 2013. Mr Goode also shared his experiences of the Project’s implementation in Ghana after joining the global team of HSBC staff in Ghana with the communities benefiting from the support of WaterAid and the HSBC Water Programme.

The HSBC Water Programme is a five-year, USD100 million, environmental initiative addressing three key objectives: providing water, sanitation and hygiene to communities in need; protecting key river basins vital to communities and business around the world; and promoting the value of

water to HSBC’s community of employees through learning and volunteering.

“At present, around 20% of the Ghanian rural population lack access to safe water, with adults and

children queuing for several hours to gather water,” explained Mr Goode. “Improved access to water in Ghana will improve so many aspects of life in this community, bringing far reaching health, and hygiene benefits while also providing the infrastructures the community needs to become more productive and self-sufficient.”

With the support of HSBC Water Programme, WaterAid will reach 1.1 million people with safe water and provide better sanitation for 1.9 million persons over the next five years in Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Ghana and Nigeria.

HSBC Malta’s CEO Mark Watkinson noted that the HSBC Water Programme is being carried out on the scale necessary to deliver a powerful combination of water provision, protection and education,

resulting in the most ground-breaking water programme ever committed to by a financial organisation.

meeting in Asanyansu, Kwahu Afram Plains: “It can take us from 5am to 11am to collect water. There are times when we even sleep at the water point. People leave their sandals in the queue which causes arguments.”

BOV employees lend a helping hand

Thursday, 21 February 2013, 18:27

Armed with tools, paintbrushes and gardening tools, some 30 employees from the Bank of Valletta IT team woke up to a completely different day of work as they donated their time to a much appreciated helping hand at St Joseph’s Home, Sta Venera.

By working with local caring organisations such as residential homes, the Bank provides tangible support to children and adults facing difficult social situations. The works carried out by volunteers range from redecoration and painting to general maintenance work. The final aim of the Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility is to improve the residents’ quality of life.

“This event is now becoming a regular one for the Home: Every year, BOV staff literally take over sections of the Home, and spread out to do different tasks: from cleaning, to cooking for the boys resident at the Home, painting and other electrical work. The staff’s familiarity with the Home, and their endorsement of the Home’s mission makes this day of voluntary work something I look forward to: It is like having close friends helping out. BOV staff members even rope in other family members and bring their children with them on the day, which turns this activity also into a social event, celebrated with a meal cooked by the volunteers themselves,” said Home director Fr Frankie Cini.

Since it opened, St. Joseph’s Home has welcomed over 2,300 children who have stayed, some for months, others for years, seeking shelter from poverty and the loss of their parents. In the last 40 years, the Home has also welcomed children coming from situations which call for them to be taken out of environments which could cause the children harm. At present the Home takes up to 18 children in three different apartments, and fosters a space where boys find help to achieve independence in young adulthood.
