On Friday 20 June, we presented you with a ‘dramatic’ assembly. Room 12 performed two plays, ‘The Imaginary

Pumpkin Competition’ and ‘Blackberry’. We also had six of our talented singers performing a song called ‘Party in the

USA’ by Miley Cyrus. (Thank you to Steve Fisher for assisting us with the sound gear.)

also had a design competition for a new

Australian flag.

Term 2 Closure

Term 2 is drawing rapidly to a close and this will

be the last newsletter for the term.

All students are to be congratulated on their

efforts and achievements this term. Thank you

for the support that parents and caregivers give

to children and to the school. I would like to

sincerely thank the teachers and support staff for

their outstanding efforts and commitment in

providing a stimulating and engaging teaching

and learning program.

School finishes on Friday, 4 July and resumes for

students on Tuesday, 22 July 2014.

Semester 1 Reports

Reports will be sent home on Wednesday, 2 July.

You are asked to make time available to read

your child’s report and share with them your

appreciation for their good efforts and progress.

To help children improve in any areas of concern

it would be valuable to help your child to reflect

on the good things they are currently doing in the

learning area and set with them achievable goals

to work on in Term 3.

You are invited to make appointments with

teachers to clarify any aspects of the report or to

discuss your child's progress in more detail, early

next term. We value parents as partners and look

forward to this partnership being further

enhanced through the reporting process.

Assembly

Well done to Room 12, Year 6 students, for a

fantastic assembly last week. What fabulous

performers you all are!

The final assembly for the term is on Friday, 4

July at 1.20pm and will be hosted by Room 35,

Year 1 students. All family and friends are

invited to attend.

Applications for Enrolment 2015

Kindergarten, Pre-primary and Year 7 and 8, and

for children changing schools for the 2015 school

parents/guardians to complete the forms by the

end of Term 2.

Science Incursion

On Tuesday, 17 June, students were entertained

by Dr Graham Walker with his magnificent

science show. It was highly entertaining and

taught the students about high and low pressure

by using things such as a marshmallow cannon

made with a vacuum cleaner.

Yakamia Creek to be

removed

Local environmental group, Albany Community

Environment Centre (ACEC) have obtained State

Natural Resource Management funding to

support further weed control and restoration

works along a new section of Yakamia Creek

adjacent to the school. ACEC is working with the

City of Albany, Friends of Yakamia Creek

members and other community groups to

implement the project.

The next big step is to organise contractors to

come in and remove the larger woody weed

species, including the Sydney Golden Wattles and

Taylorina, the two dominant woody weeds

present. The work is being scheduled for the first

week of the July school holidays so as not to

disrupt school activities. Please note that this

initial removal of the woody weeds will likely have

a significant initial visual impact, opening up the

views along this upper section of the creek.

However, revegetation works with suitable local

native species are planned for later this year and

2015. We hope to see the school community

involved in some of the future educational and

planting activities along the creek.

The Friends of Yakamia Creek also meet down at

the creek every month to progress the works. We

do weeding and planting and learn more about

the creek. Please join us on the second Sunday of

the month at 9.30am at the foot bridge on

Barnesby Drive.

If you have any questions about weed removal

works or joining the Friends of Yakamia Creek

please call Karen McKeough from the ACEC on

0435 056 340.
