P&C

I enjoyed attending this week‘s P&C meeting and meeting all the hard working members who have toiled very hard to contribute to Yakamia PS. The P&C has achieved so much in the school over many years and continues to be a driving force coordinating a wonderful canteen and many fundraising opportunities. I look forward to a positive and productive working relationship with the P&C. Congratulations to P&C President, Belinda Stonehouse and to all office bearers for 2016 – thank you for your commitment to YPS. The newly elected committee consists of: President - Belinda Stonehouse

Vice President - Gabby Dixon

Secretary - Jodie Wilkinson

Treasurer - Sandra Colmer

Executive Committee - Kirsty Pearce, Madeleine Burger, Lea Clarke

School Council Rep - Belinda Stonehouse

Canteen Committee - Lenka Wenbourne, Sandra Colmer, Kirsty Pearce, Lisa Manera, Helen Walmsley

Fundraising Committee - Madeleine Burger, Belinda Stonehouse, Tamara Gladish

Book Club - Renee Armstrong.

We are seeking a School Banking Officer, 2nd Hand Uniform Co-Ordinator and a Sports Rep.

CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES We look forward to your support in paying these voluntary contributions – Kindergarten $50 Pre-Primary $60 Years 1-6 $60 These funds will be used to provide additional resources for all students. An outline of possible charges for each year level was provided at the end of last year. Please use this to anticipate educational expenses for the year. Charges will be collected at the time the particular event, such as an excursion, occurs. If you have any queries on contributions and charges, please contact the office. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or bank deposit (BSB 016-510 A/C 340823089). We do not have EFTPOS facilities.

Last year Yakamia PS had a contribution rate of 55%. I‘m sure we can improve in 2016. After all $60 per year is only $15 per term or $1.50 per week! Less than half a cup of coffee!!! And you can……….

Win back your Voluntary Contributions!

Pay your child‘s school fees before the end of Term 1 and you will go into the raffle to win back the money!

Three prizes are up for grabs. One entry is given to every child who has paid. (i.e. a family with 3 children attending YPS, will have 3 chances to win).

Thank you to the P&C for generously sponsoring this idea.

Attendance at School Student attendance at school is very important. Every day and every lesson is important to your child‘s education. Please ensure your child is on time and at school every day. Please notify the class teacher or the school if your child is going to be absent.

FACTS ABOUT ATTENDANCE

1. To get the most out of school and learning, children need to attend school for at least 95% of the time—that is 19 out of every 20 days.

2. Regular attendance allows children to build upon their learning and absorb it

3. Children who miss school in early years will have ―learning gaps‖ that make learning later in life more difficult.

4. Attending school regularly helps students develop confidence, social skills, resilience and teamwork—all great things for your child!

IMPORTANT THINGS A PARENT or CARER CAN DO ABOUT IMPROVING ATTENDANCE

Make sure your child attends school on every possible day

Make sure your child‘s school has all of your current contact details

Make sure you provide reasons for any absences your child has

Arrange doctor and other appointments outside of school hours

From the Principal’s Desk

Page 3: Vol 2 2016.pdf

Take an active and interested role in your child‘s education—learn with them!

Be a role model and stress the value of commitments and responsibility

School Assembly The first classroom presented school assembly for 2016 will be held on Friday 26th February by Mr Parry‘s Year 4/5 class . All parents and friends are very welcome.

‘Happiness is a Dry Bed’

Bedwetting is a common child hood problem that can be usually stopped.

Nocturnal Enuresis is the medical term used to describe lack of bladder control at night in a person who has reached an age at which control is to be expected.

Bedwetting can cause stress for both children and parents. It is recommended to seek treatment

rather than thinking they will grow out of it as some never do.

School Community nurses offer the Enuresis (Bedwetting) Program as recommended by PMH for children and young people from 6 years of age to 14 years. This involves the use of a mat and alarm to help the person to wake when needing to go to the toilet at night. The treatment is most likely to be successful if it is part of a supervised self- management program using reliable machines. The program takes between 6-8 weeks and involves weekly contact with the School Community Nurse. There is no cost.

Is your child:

Wetting the bed more than twice per week

Dry during the day

between 6 and 14 years of age

motivated and wants to be dry at night.

For further details please contact your School Community Nurse 98427564 or Great Southern Population Health on 9842 7500
