VOL 21 ISSUE 19, 25 SEPTEMBER 2019 Hope - The Key to Life! Hope is the thing with feathers, that perches in the soul, and sings the tune without the words, and never stops at all. Emily Dickinson. Hope is an essential ingredient of life. If we have hope we can face anything that life throws at us. If we have hope we can take on the challenges and overcome. Hope is what gets you up in the morning. Life with hope can be a life of expectation, anticipation and ‘looking forward’ to a good future, regardless of the circumstances right now. On the other hand life without hope is completely different. Life without hope is hopeless. When we lose hope we lose the strength for life. We do not have the strength to face tomorrow. Everything becomes a challenge and even small tasks call for a great degree of effort. God wants each of us to live with hope in our hearts. God makes fresh hope available to each of us. As this divine hope becomes a reality to us, we can in turn become a source of hope to others. If we are connected to the source of hope, God, then we can become a source of hope to those around us. There is a connection between faith and hope. Mere hope is just an expectation for the best, but faith on the other hand is a belief that God will come through for us and as a result, we trust Him. Hope is an essential ingredient of life. If we have hope we can face anything that life throws at us. If we have hope we can take on the challenges and overcome. From the PrincipalCONCERTThis afternoon and tomorrow evening’s concert performances will be the culmination of a huge term of rehearsals and preparation for our Years 1 to 4 students. I am incredibly grateful for the work of all teachers, support staff and parents in assisting in this event. In particular, my thanks go to Ms Sarah Williams, Mr Jason Fay and Miss Carly Bergen for their planning and writing of “Mad Mad Movies”.

UNIFORM REVIEWThank you to so many families for sharing your thoughts about current positives, challenges, and future possibilities. Whilst dialogue is continuing, a letter has been sent to all St Paul families regarding the decision for Reception students to wear PE uniform as their sole uniform from 2020. This supports our teaching and learning philosophy of play-based learning in the junior primary years.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYSI pray you all have a safe and relaxing break from school routines in the coming two weeks. The school office will be open in the first week of holidays (30 September to 4 October), from 8:30am to 4pm. We will see you all back for the first day of school on Monday, October 14.

OPTIONAL ATTENDANCE DAY FRIDAY 27 SEPTEMBERThis Friday following the concert evening performance will be an optional attendance day for all students from Reception to Year 6. SENIOR ACTIVITIES IN THE LIBRARYFor the last few Thursdays our lunch time activities have been open to Year 4 – 6; giving the senior end of our school a chance to interact and participate in activities requiring a higher skill level. The activities have included a Pokémon gaming group and craft. The craft group have been busy creating pot plant holders ready for planting early next Term.

BOOK FAIRIn Week 2 next term the Library will be hosting a Book Fair. Students and parents will have an opportunity to browse through the sorts of books normally available through Scholastic Book Club and purchase on the spot. Purchases can be made with cash, credit card and debit card. Students will be able to make a wish list of books to purchase during their Library time. The Book Fair will be open to parents before and after school to make purchases. More details will follow early next term.

SEASONS FOR GROWTH® PROGRAM Learning to live with change and loss

Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. At St Paul Lutheran School we recognise that when changes occur in

families through death, separation, divorce and related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively.

We will be offering a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth to commence in the coming months and in 2020. This voluntary program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need the practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss.

Seasons for Growth offers children and young people a safe space to come together, and share their experiences of change and loss. The program
