“Letting the JEE-VAN survive” Collaboration of life with nature

The exuberant child scientists with the delegates kept up the spirit of Green India by planting trees in the Science City and SAL Education Campus. The chorus group of environment - conscious people spread awareness about the matter by reciting slogans on Clean India, Green India. Interview with Dr. Sujeet Banerjee, Director -NCSTC-DST, Govt of India , NAC Members Mr. Jayanta Kumar Sarma, Dr. Pulin Behari Chakraborty, Mr. T. P. Raghunathan , and Prof. H R Shah , Principal SAL College of Sri Sandeep Bhattacharya

thEngineering were scheduled and following questions were discussed in context of 25 National Children Science Congress, 2017 which is organized by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India at Science City and SAL Technical Campus

Question: Regarding theme of science, technology and innovation for sustainable development, how does the National Children Science Congress prove to be significant specifically for India?National Children Science congress is having a journey of more than twenty years since 1993 and the alumni of previous

thNCSCs are positively working towards the country and environment as well, the child scientists of 25 NCSC will get back to home with the new ideas and they will spread the positive ideas among the society through which will make people aware of scientific solutions. The change is slow and gradual but it can change its pace in steadfastness if the youth jumps in.Question: As a subpart of theme Natural resource management and Lifestyle and livelihood, taking these all into consideration what efforts are being made through National Children Science Congress 2017?Some projects of non-conventional resources like solar, tidal energies have been evaluated and considering all this, natural resources of the country can be effectively utilized if some suggestions can be incorporated. Process of delivering science needs is to be improved so that one can easily apply the conceptual science or scientific knowledge in real time situations. So the people will get aware and it will be reflected in their lifestyle. Real world examples are more meaningful than prescription, basic science problems pertaining to the society are captured by the children, they try to solve with the guidance of the teachers, and these all information is passed to their parents through which it will be populated amongst the society. So far as Health and Hygiene & nutrition along with Food and Agriculture is concerned what is the vision for next ten to twenty years?Hygiene aspects for people has been taken into consideration by Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan as people are still not conscious about good sanitary facilities provided by the government. Vision is to make them aware and use the facilities to its fullest. The present scenario of India's population shows large numbers contrary to that of the population in other countries. They have good knowledge and awareness towards the society which helps them to live a well-defined life. On the other hand, if the youth of India channelizes its large population into the right direction, we can make a huge difference. How Traditional Knowledge System can be incorporated with modern system by making optimum use of resources? What will be the NCSC's efforts towards reaching goal?We can look into the traditional knowledge systems into two broader perspectives. Ecosystem people- who depend totally on the ecosystem for solutions Biosphere people- who depend on the market for the solutions ; they thereby have distinct perceptions. They should therefore intermingle their lifestyle ideas for a better living. What is your perspective towards Disaster Management and Energy?“Energy” has been the focal point for the past NCSCs but from now the center of attention will be the innovative thinking approach towards the design of non-conventional energy resources to be more productive. This can also help in the rural and semi- rural areas to excel in economy by staying grounded to the ecosystem. Disaster Management has already been enacting upon by weather department, geology department, and department pertaining to oceanography etc. Some projects have been submitted for the same. What is your message to the People?Message from all the members were to change the culture by changing individual and to be aware of our responsibility towards nation's cleanliness, safety and environment. It can only be done through one's habits and dedication towards consistency for better surroundings. They believe that the brain drain should stop by taking an example of Abdul Kalam who served the nation with his knowledge and contribution. The youth of this country should take efforts for improvising the country's condition by staying and working in India. So far as Technical development amongst children is concerned pertaining to the science and technology, scrutinizing the talent across the India at the national level is tough task especially in the rural and remote areas. There are a lot of children who have talent but, aren't getting the platform and exposure to their ideas because of lacking resources. So approaching those children and getting them involved in science and technology can bring up many great ideas for the nation and it will also encourage their abilities.

thBeside the IMAX theater in the ground different domes of 25 National Children Science Congress are erected. In front of exhibition entry gate you will find an erected sundial which is a device to measure the time. A sundial is a device that measures time by using a light spot or shadow cast by position of the Sun on a reference scale. The entire object that casts a shadow or light onto the dial face is known as the sundial's gnomon. An edge of the gnomon that casts a shadow used to determine the time; this linear feature is known as the sundial's style. Don't miss the opportunity to see and observe how it works!!

In front of the Main Convention Hall you will find two Exhibition Halls. Do Visit it where you will find different stalls of National and State level institutions exhibiting their projects related to Science and Technology.

Glimpses ofDay 1

It was the day of inauguration and various participants and visitors have visited, it was a memorable day. But one thing which was the point of concern was “WASTE OF FOOD”. So let us not waste the food from today itself. With the theme of sustainable development of this event, let us start it from today itself and let's take a pledge not to waste food any more.

I am here with my student Miss. Divya thSahu, who will participate in this 25

NCSC, I am really happy and impressed by the facilities that are provided by the team, especially the food and the various dishes that are been served to us, but the point that is bothering me is the waste of food, that is taking place.

Everyone should understand and if all of us understand the importance of food, we can reduce the waste of food.

We have already instructed the persons serving the food at the counter, to serve as per requirement of the child and they should not serve more than requirement.

If they want more they can come again and get served, but they should not waste the food.

th“ This whole event of 25 NCSC is just

wonderful, and I am feeling that I have

also become one of the scientist,

because I am amongst the young

budding scientist, so naturally I am also

feeling motivated, and I am feeling really

great and feel this event goes on and on

and on…… So everything is fine and in

nutshell the program is just wonderful.”

“I am here for the first time and that to at the national level, so I am very much

thexcited for 25 NCSC. This experience of mine is really adorable; I think I will never forget this experience ever. The quantum of knowledge and everything is so inspiring, there are quotes written everywhere.Further I want to thank the whole team of NCSC who is behind this grand event, as I am working from last two months for the same, so once again I would like to thank NCSC and the team.”
