Celebration of 'World Health Day'
In 1948, the World Health Organization (WHO) held the First World Health
Assembly. The Assembly decided to celebrate April 7 of each year, with
effect from 1950, as the World Health Day. Every year, the day is
celebrated under a unique theme. This year's theme is “Depression – Let's
Talk” World health day was celebrated at JIET College of nursing on April
7, 2017. Depression is an illness characterized by persistent sadness and
a loss of interest in activities that we normally enjoy. Depression affects
people of all ages, from all walks of life, in all countries. At worst,
depression can lead to suicide, now the second leading cause of death
among 15-29-year olds.
Laughter therapy, also called humour therapy, is the use of humour to promote overall health and wellness. It aims to use the
natural physiological process of laughter to help relieve physical or emotional stresses or discomfort. A good, hearty laugh
relieves physical tension and stress. Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases
immune cells. JIET College of Nursing organized following activities:

Research & Development (R&D)(Research Papers by faculty members of JGI)
Title of the Research Paper : “Assessment of Effectiveness of Formative Assessment on
Academic Excellence among Paramedical Students”. The paper has been published in
“International Journal of Nursing Education & Research” (IJNER), Vol. 5 Issue 2, April- June 2017.
Name of the Authors : Prof. N. Meenakumari (Principal, JIET College of Engineering
(JIETCON))
Abstract: Evaluation is the process of examining a program or process to determine what's
working, what's not, and why. It determines the value of learning and training programs and acts as
blueprints for judgment and improvement. The goal of formative assessment is to gather feedback
that can be used by the students to guide improvements in learning context.
The objective is to analyze the effectiveness of formative assessment on academic excellence of paramedical
students. Observational Retrospective study was done. Cohort of 38 paramedical students studying Bachelor of
Nursing course was selected and their baseline data was obtained. Mark register was scrutinized to extract weekly
exam and university exam marks. Grading of 5 was kept as optimum level and both marks were graded in 10 point
scale.
The computed result shows that there is a positive correlation between formative and university exam results in all
subjects namely Anatomy Physiology, Nutrition Biochemistry, Psychology, and Microbiology, Secondly there is a
significant positive association between weekly and university examination marks in all subjects, but contradictory
Psychology subject has no association.
The results show that there is a positive correlation between formative and a university exam result which indicates
that a student scored high in weekly exams has a possibility of getting High marks in their university exams. The study
findings explored that ongoing formative assessment and proving feedback serve as bench mark for students to
improve their learning context, which promotes deeper understanding of subjects and shine with excellence in
academics.
The recommendations are as follows:
(1) Encourage the students to identify their strength and weakness in learning to achieve optimum level academic
performance.
(2) Teachers also can improve their teaching by getting feedback in ongoing assessment.
(3) Formative examination reduces the burden to students in preparing their university exams.
(4) Formative assessment enhances “learning is a Joy”.

Title of the Research Paper: “Information Retrieval and Mining on Arabic Data"
Name of the Author : Mr. Zakir Ansari (Asst. Prof, CSE, JIETCOE)
Abstract: Text classification plays an important role in many aspects of our modern life.
Classification has been needed in many fields for a long time. Many methods are used to classify
text in different manner. There are several purposes are such as recognizing handwriting and
speech, determining the gender of a writer among others. The main research interests have
focused on retrieval of formal language, mostly in the news domain, with ad hoc retrieval.
Text classification is used for aiding search functionality offered by search engines and information
retrieval systems to deal with the large number of documents on the web. This paper uses the
descriptive analytical method to examine the reality of Arabic studies in the field of information retrieval and to study
the problems that are being faced in this area. In order to find the best for Arabic text classification, it has been
observed that the cosine measure outperformed the other three associative coefficients of the VSM. Text
classification is used to classify different documents into one of different possible classes or domains. It applies text
classification to Arabic language text documents using stemming as part of the pre-processing steps. This paper
addresses the issue of automatic classification or classification of Arabic text documents.

Name of the Project : “Automated Cluster Management Services for Hadoop”
Name of the Students : Rashya Sharma Abstract:(Final Year, CSE branch, JIET)
Abstract : The project entitled "Automated Cluster Management Services for Hadoop” is a web
based portal which aims to manage large Hadoop Clusters in a private network.
A Hadoop cluster is a special type of computational cluster designed specifically for storing and
analyzing huge amounts of unstructured data in a Distributed computing environment. This
cluster run Hadoop's open source distributed processing software on low-cost commodity
computers.
Typically one machine in the cluster is designated as the NameNode and another machine as the JobTracker;
these are the masters. The rest of the machines in the cluster act as both DataNode and TaskTrackers; these are
slaves. Hadoop clusters are often referred to as "share nothing” systems because the only thing that is shared
between nodes is the network that connects them.
Hadoop clusters are known for boosting the speed of data analysis application. They are also highly scalable. If a
cluster's processing power is overwhelmed by growing volumes of data, additional cluster nodes can be added to
increase throughput. Hadoop clusters are also highly resistant to failures because each piece of data is copied
onto other cluster nodes, which ensures that the data is not lost, if the node fails.
This is reconfigurable and can be modified. As of early 2013, Facebook was having the largest Hadoop cluster due
to generation of large data sets on daily basis by the users.
Now the question arises, why do we need a Cluster Manager?
Every day we hear about more organizations implementing Hadoop as part of their IT infrastructure. Most people
think of Hadoop installation as something that starts on top of an existing, working cluster. But how did that cluster
get there? With a small cluster, setting it up and monitoring it is not a big deal. But an enterprise-grade cluster will
need a tool to automate the management and monitoring. So we need a Cluster manager for:
1. Easy Deployment
2. Keeping an eye in things
3. Managing changes
Technologies used:
1. Front End : HTML/CSS/JavaScript/JQuery
2. Frameworks : BootStrap, Semantic UI, Pure UI
3. Back End : Hadoop Framework ,Ansible ,Python CGI
Topic of the Seminar paper: “Matlab/Simulink of Automatic Voltage Regulator Using Particle

Abstract: This paper is about MATLAB/Simulink of automatic voltage regulator for synchronous

time and voltage control but in this paper PSO based PID controller with Automatic Voltage Regulator and
stabilizer are used to determine performance parameter of Maximum overshoot (23%), undershoot (10%), settling
time (2sec), the rise time (0.4498) and steady state error. A novel design method for determining the optimal
proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller parameters of an AVR system using the Particle Swarm
Optimization (PSO), algorithm is presented. This paper demonstrates in detail how to employ the PSO method to
search efficiently the optimal PID controller parameters of an AVR system. PID Controller (Proportional Integral
Derivative) was invented since 1910, but till today, it is still used in industries, even though there are many kind of
modern controllers like Fuzz Controller and Neural Network Controller are being developed and performance
analysis of Proportional Integral Derivate (PID) Controller for an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) system using
recently proposed simplified Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) also called Many Optimizing Liaisons (MOL)
algorithm. For the performance analysis, different analysis methods such as transient response analysis, root
locus analysis and bode analysis are performed. The superiority of the proposed approach is shown by
comparing the results with some recently published modern heuristic optimization algorithms such as Artificial
Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm and Differential Evolution (DE)
algorithm. Further, robustness analysis of the AVR system tuned by MOL algorithm is performed by varying the
time constants of amplifier, exciter, generator and sensor in the range of −50% to +50% in steps of 25%. The
analysis results reveal that the proposed MOL based PID controller for the AVR system performs better than the
other similar recently reported population based optimization algorithms and PID controller is depend on on
Proportional Gain (Kp), Integral Gain (Ki) and Derivative Gain (Kd). These gains can be got by using method
Ziegler-Nichols (ZN), gain-phase margin, Root Locus, Minimum Variance dan Gain Scheduling, however these
methods are not optimal to control systems that nonlinear and have high-orde, in addition, some methods are
relatively difficult. To solve those obstacles, Particle Swarm V Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed to get
optimal Kp, Ki and Kd. PSO is suggested because PSO has convergent result and does not require many
iterations. On this research, PID controller is applied on AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). Based on result of
analyzing transient, Stability Root Locus and frequency response, performance of PID controller is better than
Ziegler-Nichols. A MATLAB simulation has been performed and a comparative study between the proposed
algorithms with the PSO- PID Controller has been studied in the presented work. The proposed method was
indeed more efficient and robust in improving the response of an AVR system.

Abstract : The machine basically works on the principle of
Single Slider Crank Mechanism. Which is the heart of this
machine and it converts rotary motion into a reciprocating
motion. The conveyor has been fabricated using crank
mechanism machine. This project can be utilized in industry.
Industries use conveyors as a mechanism to transport boxes
from place. This mechanism does not include strong belts,
pulleys and heavy motors to rotate the pulley in order to move
the conveyor. As an alternative to this conveyor type, more
simple and comfortable machine using four bar mechanism can
be used. This box shifting machine helps in transfer of boxes
smoothly by use of four bars with a simple arrangement. The
four bar mechanism includes four links. One link is fixed and the other links act as crank, follower and connecting
rod. The rotary motion of the crank is transferred to the follower by using connecting rod and is converted to the
same rotary motion. This machine requires an electric motor to provide input to the system.
