Love is in the AirLove is in the air and it’s not limited to Valentines and Snowbirds. Now is the time for sea turtles, too. On February 1st, 2013 we caught up with Eddie Woerner on West Beach in

Gulf Shores to observe work underway to resurface a seven-mile stretch of sand dedicated to promoting sea turtle nesting.

A curious crowd looked on as an implement, developed and built in Orange Beach, was being pulled behind a large tractor in order to loosen sand to a 30 inch depth to encourage sea turtles to lay eggs in this protected area. Should you venture out for a walk on the beach in this area and sink to your knees, don’t be alarmed – it’s all for the turtles!

Unifi ed Recovery Group of Foley makes the sea turtle project possible in cooperation with “Eddie Boy” Woerner of Flipper’s Restaurant and Marina in Orange Beach.

The secret is in the marinade when it comes to these juicy, flavorful

steaks so don’t cheat on the refrigeration time. Just one bite and you will

realize that rounding up the necessary ingredients is definitely worth

the effort!

Grilled T-Bones

1/4 c. finely chopped onion

1/4 c. olive oil

2 T. lemon juice

2 T. soy sauce

1 T. sugar

1 T. cider vinegar

1 T. honey

2 t. minced garlic

2 t. Worcestershire sauce

½ t. salt

1 t. pepper

6 beef T-bone steaks (1 inch thick and 12 ounces each)

In a large resealable plastic bag, combine the first 11 ingredients; add

steaks. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate for 2-4 hours. Drain and

discard marinade. Grill steaks, covered, over medium heat for 6-10

minutes on each side or until meat reaches desired doneness.
