Bethany College Bison The Bison rolled to a 3-0 start in PAC play with 3-0 victories over W&J, Waynesburg and Chatham last week … In Bethany’s opening home match of the season against W&J Thursday, the Presidents led for much of the first set before BC rallied to take it 27-25 … The Green and White would close out the match by claiming the next 2 sets 25-15, 25-20 … Jessica zavatchen, who was honored prior to the match for reaching 4,000 career assists earlier in the year, passed out 28 more in the win and added 11 digs … Taylor Cassidy was the top hitter with 11 kills and added 9 digs and 3 aces, while lauren Goodwill & Jordan Fenner hit 7 kills each … In the back row, kelly becquet & Julia Mouch brought up a dozen digs apiece … Bethany set the tone early with dominating wins in the opening sets against Waynesburg (25-8) and Chatham (25-7) and cruised to 3-0 victories … Zavatchen again set the table in the Waynesburg win with 33 assists, with top-hitting honors going to Goodwill with 11 kills and Cassidy with 10 … In the Chatham triumph, Fenner led the way with 8 kills, Mouch, who had a team-high 18 digs against Waynesburg, totaled 16 more, and Zavatchen (15 assists) and Devin Unger (10) paced the assist count.

10-3, 3-0 PAC

Geneva’s volleyball team was busy early in the week but enjoyed a rare weekend off the court ... On Tuesday, Geneva picked up victories at Chatham against the host Cougars and Washington & Jefferson ... One day later, the Golden Tornadoes finally played their home opener and came away with a 3-0 victory over Waynesburg to remain perfect in conference play ... Ashley Davis posted 16 kills in the victory over the Yellow Jackets as Geneva moved to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in the PAC ... It took Geneva four sets to defeat W & J with Maggie bowersox leading the offense with 16 kills ... Deanna briody, who was named the PAC player of the week last week, finished the match with 46 assists, 20 digs and five service aces ... Geneva will play its most challenging week of the season with road matches against Mount Union, Bethany and Thiel.

The Wolverines concluded a busy week by going 3-1 last week … Grove City opened the week with a four-set home win against Penn State Behrend … elisabeth Willits (16), Ashley branch (12) and Tierza Rangel (10) all posted double-digit kill performances in the triumph … Thursday, the Wolverines swept Chatham in conference play behind Branch’s 11 kills and two blocks … Libero Tara Skinner tallied 17 digs … Grove City moved to 3-2 in the league by splitting a tri-match at Westminster … After falling to Westminster in the opener, Grove City rebounded for a four-set win over Saint Vincent … Willits had 15 kills while Branch and Rangel both had 13 each … Setter Amy Trageser had 24 assists and setter Amy Collins had 23 assists … The win marked Grove City’s first over the Bearcats since SVC joined the conference … Grove City hosts W&J Tuesday in its lone action of the week.

SVC dropped three matches last week, including a pair of conference tilts ... On Tuesday, SVC lost to Carnegie Mellon, 3-0 ... Freshman Rachel Hast led the team with eight kills while junior emily Rosati added seven ... Sophomore Anna Christy contributed a team-best 17 digs with junior Megan lucas adding 15 digs ... At Saturday’s tri-match at Westminster with Grove City, SVC lost to the Wolverines, 3-1, in the first match ... Hast posted a team-best 18 kills and freshman Jessica Welteroth added 11 kills ... The host Titans then blanked SVC, 3-0.

Chatham University Cougars Chatham dropped five conference matches last week ... The Cougars lost to Geneva and Washington & Jefferson at home on Tuesday and at Grove City on Thursday ... At Saturday’s tri-match at Waynesburg the Cougars were dealt straight-set defeats by Bethany and host Waynesburg ... against Geneva Angelina Liberi had a team-high eight kills while Mareija Bibbs added six digs and three service aces ... Erin Smith recorded a team-high 20 digs in the match and Juli-anne Speeney had 13 assists ... against Waynesburg Bibbs had a team-high 11 kills and a pair of blocks .. Liberi finished with six kills and ten digs ... Speeney added a team-high 13 assists and 11 digs.

Thomas More College Saints Thomas More extended its winnings streak to six matches with a 3-0 record last week … The Saints defeated Bluffton in a mid-week match and then defeated Washington & Jefferson and Franklin in a home tri-match over the weekend … Senior setter Tori Verville hit .500 last week with 10 kills and had 75 assists for a 10.71 set/assist average, while also having one service ace, 11 digs and one block assist … Freshman middle hitter Jessica knaley led the team in kills with 25, sophomore outside hitter karsen Cronin led the team with six service aces, while sophomore defensive specialist kelsey Castiglioni led the team in digs with 48 … For the season, Cronin lead the team in kills with 128, while Verville has a team-high 388 assists and Castiglioni has a team-best 212 digs.

9-4, 2-0 PAC

Washington & Jefferson won two of five road matches last week … W&J already only needs two victories to match its overall win total from last year … The Presidents have a winning record through 10 matches for the first time since 2007 when they started with a 7-3 record (finished 19-12) … Freshman Courtney Grdina led the team with 14 digs against Geneva … Junior Tori Clark paced the offense with 11 kills … Clark added 13 kills against Bethany … Freshman Christine Plavchak dished out 14 assists in her first-career match against Chatham … Junior Maura lyle totaled 17 digs against Thomas More and Franklin … Sophomore lindsey bennett paced the offense with nine kills … A six-match road swing ends Saturday when Thomas More and Westminster come to the Henry Memorial Center for a PAC tri-match.

The Waynesburg University volleyball team snapped a five-match losing streak and scored its first PAC win of 2012 by splitting a home tri-match with conference opponents Bethany and Chatham … After falling 3-0 to the Bison, the Yellow Jackets came back to down Chatham 3-0 … The Jackets’ week started with a 3-0 defeat at Geneva.

The Westminster College volleyball team opened Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) play on Saturday with a pair of conference 3-0 shutouts in its home opener ... The Titans bested Grove City 3-0 in game one and topped Saint Vincent 3-0 in the nightcap ... In game one versus Grove City, tied 24-24, the Titans won two-straight points to win the set courtesy of kills by sophomore Kassie Freyermuth and junior lexi Starheim ... Junior Megan Romocean led the Titan offense with a game-high 17 kills ... Starheim was also in double-digits with 10 kills ... Senior Tara Incerpi led the defense with 17 digs ... In game two against Saint Vincent, the Titans had their best set of the day with a 25-9 win in set number two ... Romocean earned her fourth double-double of the year with 11 kills and 12 digs ... Freshman Megan Prybyl led Westminster with 13 kills, which tied a career-high ... Palkovic had game-high 39 assists ... The Titans will look to extend its four-game winning streak as they travel to Waynesburg on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Thiel College Tomcats 7-4, 2-0 PACThe Tomcats defeated LaRoche on Wednesday 3-0 ... Over the weekend the Tomcats were crowned the 2012 Gator Volleyball Invitational Champions after defeating Case Western Reserve in five sets Saturday ... Thiel got started on Saturday with a 3-0 win over host Allegheny ... Alyssa Chine, Megg Andrews and kelly barzak each had eight kills while Chelsea Meister recorded 28 assists ... Defensively, Alex Hall notched 11 digs ... The Tomcats followed that win up by handing Case Western Reserve only its second loss of the season in dramatic come-from-behind style ... The Tomcats won the first set 26-24, but the Spartans rallied to win the next two sets (27-25, 25-21), putting Thiel in a 2-1 hole ... The Tomcats rallied, winning the fourth set, 25-19, and the final set, 15-13 to win the Gator Volleyball Invitational ... After a 0-4 start, the Tomcats have won seven straight matches.
