Recently Assistant Manager Glenn challenged our store to raise $500 in one week for the Children’s Miracle Network charities. If we met our challenge, he would book Hannah Montana for a concert in our store! Well, we met the goal- but Hannah was too busy touring the nation, and filming her TV show- so she sent the next best thing: her cousin Glennah Mantana!! Glennah is an up and coming actress trying to follow in her cousin’s foot steps. We wish her the best of luck and thank her for visiting our store. Special thanks to Glenn for bringing her to our store! *****************************

The man replies, “I'm alright, but I didn't like the FOUR-LETTER-WORD the doctor used in surgery!” The nurse asked, “What did he say“? “OOPS!!!”

FUN DRINK FACTS: Budweiser beer was named after the German town of Budweis. Mr. Pibb soda had to change it’s name to Pibb Xtra due to a law suit. In 2001, Coca-Cola’s renamed it’s Surge soda to Vault because it lost it‘s right to use the Surge name. Wal-Mart’s Grapette Soda is the best-selling grape soda in America. Sam’s Choice Sodas use to be called Ozark Farms Sodas until 1991.

Name: Betty J. Title: Operator/Fitting Room Joined Wal-Mart: Nov 1994 Call our store and you’ll probably get Betty. She’s the friendly operator that answers our calls, and the voice we hear over the intercom system on most nights. She loves her job, and the fact that she gets to interact with so many people. When Betty first started working at Wal-Mart, she was only going to work here for a few months- that few months has now turned into almost 15 years! Betty’s main job is teaching at Jesse P. Miller Elementary School. She teaches Reading, Math and Language Arts in an Internet Lab. She’s been teaching for almost 30 years and remembers several of our associates in her classroom over the years. Betty has been married for 46 years, has two daughters, and nine grandchildren. In the little free time that Betty has- she likes to read and spend time with her family.

Mr. Incredible!Mr. Incredible!Mr. Incredible!Mr. Incredible! Several associates have noticed Assistant Phil’s uncanny resemblance to Mr. Incredible from the Disney/Pixar film “The Incredibles“. The 3rd Shift Grocery associates even went as far as to start calling him, “Mr. Incredible”. Back in April Assistant Manager Phil set a challenge for his 3rd Shift associates- he said that if they could raise $500 in one month for the Give Kids the World Charities- he would dress like Mr. Incredible for a full shift. Well, with several charity drives, including Chili Night, A Taste of Italy Night, and others, 3rd Shift managed to raise the $500! Last Tuesday night- Phil kept his promise and came to work dressed as Mr. Incredible…. tights and all.

Name: Deanna T. Title: Customer Service Manager Joined Wal-Mart: May 2003 Deanna started her career at Wal-Mart as an overnight cashier. She quickly got promoted to a Customer Service Manager and has been our store’s main overnight Customer Service Manager for the past five years.

Before coming to Wal-Mart, Deanna worked as an Assistant Director for 15 years at a pre-school. She has an AA Teaching Degree and a CDA Degree from Concordia Teachers College.

Deanna’s had her odd jobs over the years, like McDonald’s- but she remembers her weirdest job was when she had to make popcorn in a garage for two hours every day while in college! She even caught the garage on fire once.

Deanna has been married for the past 13 years and has two daughters. When not working, she likes to go camping, fishing, and play softball.

FUN FACTS: In 1943, in order to save copper for the war effort- pennies were minted out of steel, instead of copper. You can still find these pennies in circulation every once in awhile. With the cost of copper going up- the penny will be redesigned in 2009, and will once again be minted out of steel in 2010.
