Vol. 18, No. 6 Bryan High School May 31,1989

The yea r was 1988. On Sep-lI...tUlliftemlber 1. the big clock on theo ffice wa ll re ached 8:10 a.m. Amultitude o f ra ging te ena gerss tormed the once empty, deso-lale hallways. And this begins...the year in review.

Each school year brings newbeginnings, Ireshchallenges. andbizarre pranks. The past yearwas definitely nodifferent. Fusedwith old sentimental traditions. the1988-89 school year created new

    innovativetrends lor futureclassesto follow.

It all started out with an explo-sion of spiri t. A train of seniorsdraped inblack snaked along VillaMaria and Briarcrest drives fromthe Manor East parking lot . Thestudents stormed the hallways atBryan High lor the funeral pepr a lly inthe commons.

Enthusiasm began inthe seniorclass - but it soon spread like wildfire. The tra ditiona lly shy andtimid incoming sophon"ores shookup pep rallies with roaring chantsand vivacious yells.

Excitement was high. The so-phomore class gave seniors a runlor their money at pep rallies. Thesen iors , in an attempt to regain

    Competition at pep rally.

control 01 the game, expressedsp irit in ways tha t o ul(a ged a d-ministration. Several weeks in arow, theseniorctass was disquali-lied in spirit stick competition.

Until the middle of football sea-son.little was uttered bythe juniorclass. They finally got caught upin the frenzy. Spiri t competitionbetween the classes becameextremely close.

Teachers this year were reallyfired up also. Something's got tobe up when conservative teach-ersshow up to class wearing fadedold blue jeans and decoratedsweatshirts.

Homecoming week was of thehighest intensity. Hall decorationcompetition. a spirit chain compe-tition, and dress up days kept- -. . . . .

    ------~,,,,

everyone's attitude on "high.~89-phomores came out on tO P wrththe longest spirit chains, and thenstunned the school with their vic-

tory In hall decorating. "-ft J C h ns tm as t im esenors proved

tha t rules cannot keep Yulet idecheer contained. The unofficialcarol ing in the commons put an-alMr strike up against 121h grad-ers on administrations' chalkboard.

Not a ll sp ir it however was ex-pressed "negatively" - seniors, attimes, were q uite hon ora ble intheir pride and excitement.

Throughout the year, studentshave backed athletic events,

academic competition and musi-cal contests. This is what makesthe pride Uow through the halls atBryan High. This isthe spiri t thatmakes a Viking.

Through canned food drives.through money collections for fel-low students in need, through allthese and other ways, our schoolproved tobe the "best ofthe best.

Ahhough ouryear hasended, inour hearts the band still plays, thecheerleaders are still cheering, the athletes are sti ll winning, theacademic learns, as well asindi-viduals, stillprove themselVes, thestage lights still shine. the teach-er s still entice with new kno wl-edge, and students st il l fee l thefriendships tha thave been made.
