resumes

In a recent article, Thom Rainer, retiring President of Life-
way, said one of the reasons why he is optimistic about the
state of churches in America in 2019 is that more churches
are doing more ministries and outreach to connect with their
local communities. In 2019, our church will be doing more
to connect and reach out to our community through a pro-
gram called “Community Outreach 2019.” The goal of this ministry is for our church to do something every
month in 2019 to connect with and reach out to the people of our community. The first event in our communi-
ty outreach program will be Saturday, January 19. On that day, those who can participate, will meet at the
church at 10:00 AM for prayer and assignments and then we will go out into our community handing out in-
formation about our church and inviting people to join us for worship. The material we will be handing out
includes a specially prepared evangelistic DVD from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association which fea-
tures information about our church and a brochure about our church with a special invitation for people to join
us for worship. This event should last no more than two hours. Please put this event on your calendar and join
us if you can. Children’s Ministry Day is a day set aside by National WMU to encourage leaders and parents
to get children in grades 1-6 involved in missions. National Children’s Ministry day is February 16. Our out-
reach ministry for February will involve the children of our church. With the help of parents and the adults of
our church our children will prepare “little bags of love” which will include among other things some valen-
tine goodies and information about and a special invitation to our church. On Saturday, February 16, we will
hand these bags out to children in our community and their families. In March, our Men’s Ministry will plan
and carry out a community outreach event featuring food and fun activities for everyone in the city park in
Oglethorpe. This will be a Sunday night event tentatively scheduled for Sunday afternoon, March 31. Our
April event will be something connected to Easter, which is April 21. What can you do to help with our Com-
munity Outreach ministry? You can pray for this effort. You can be positive in your opinions and comments
about this effort. You can support and participate in these events. Whitewater Baptist Church is a wonderful
church family and we need to let people know that they are welcome and we want them to be a part of us. The
ultimate goal of this ministry and program is to see people saved and born again. Let us all pray that God will
lead, guide, bless and empower us as we reach out to our community. Of course, you do not have to wait on a
program event to invite people to our church. Every day you can invite and encourage people to visit our
church and join us for worship. Let us pray for revival in our church and a spiritual awakening in our commu-
nity. Let us pray that in 2019 we will see many people come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior!

A New Year To Draw Closer To The Lord!
I Stand Amazed None of us have seen Jesus in the flesh, but in our quiet time we can close our eyes and in our mind, picture Him standing before us. As I do, I am amazed at His presence. I am convicted of why He would love me, a sinner, un-clean. When He prayed in the garden, “Not My will, but Thine,” it was for me. The tears He shed were for me. I cannot fathom sweating drops of blood, but He did, all for me. Because He loved me, He took all my sins and my sor-rows as His burden and He carried them with that heavy cross and then suffered and died alone. All because He loved me. One day, I will see Him face to face and it will be my joy to sing forever of His love for me. For now, I will praise Him here.
As his personal testimony, Charles Gabriel very eloquently wrote the words and music to the hymn,
I Stand Amazed in the Presence.
“How Marvelous! How Wonderful! And my song shall ever be;
How marvelous! How Wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!”
The above is my expression of his hymn. I believe the hymn writers intended for us to take their words and make them our own. When we do, we can sing them from our Heart.
In this new year may we draw closer to
our Lord and Savior. Serving Him Always!
Keep singing and praising Jesus!
Cheryl
