From Board of DirectorsThe Liberty Common Board of Directors is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. BobSchaffer to the position of Headmaster of Liberty Common School. As a school founder,Mr. Schaffer’s unparalleled expertise in Liberty’s mission and philosophy combined with hisadministrative experience as LCHS Principal make him an ideal choice to succeed in thisvital leadership role. The Headmaster position was a foundational element in Liberty’soriginal charter and will provide Liberty with an effective management structure. Benefits toreinstating the HM position include: increased support for Liberty’s foundational philosophyand Core Knowledge curriculum, improved cultural and educational continuity betweenLiberty’s elementary and high schools, and effective implementation of the BOD’s strategicplan. Operational changes and impacts at either campus should be minimal throughout thebalance of the current school year as Mr. Schaffer completes his transition. His immediateobjectives will include filling all vacant LCHS administrative positions and becoming morefamiliar with the elementary campus. The detailed HM job description is included in Liberty’spolicy manual, which can be found HERE.

During the December meeting, the BOD also approved a strategic plan, outlining the BOD’svision for the next two to five years. The plan addresses the BOD’s primary goal ofincreasing our institutional strength while supporting our vision of ensuring adherence toour charter while becoming nancially autonomous with the goal to competitivelycompensate and retain Liberty’s staff and support our classrooms. The strategic objectivesaddress three primary areas of focus: academic, financial and political. The detailed plan canbe viewed HERE.

The BOD is looking forward to the beneficial impacts these changes will make as we fulfillLiberty’s mission of providing excellence in education for our students and extendedcommunity. We pride ourselves on being a parent-lead school and continue to encourageparental involvement in our processes; community comments are welcome at the beginningof each BOD meeting. Please make plans to attend an upcoming meeting; we’d love to haveyou there! BOD meetings are posted on Liberty’s website.

From Mr. Lovely, PrincipalDear Liberty Community, I love Liberty. I love our students, their families, our faculty and staff, our curriculum, our Capstone virtues, our House and Ordersystems, our athletics, our performing and fine arts, ourextracurricular activities, and most of all, our educational philosophy

that sets us apart from modern-day public schools. This past weekend Mr. Schaffer, our newly named Headmaster, extended me an offer to succeed him in running the finest high schoolin the state of Colorado. I was excited to accept his offer and amelectric with anticipation at being able to continue leading us togreatness. I came to Liberty 11 years ago with a mathematics-education degree,an MBA, and four years of experience teaching math at various public

and private schools in Fort Collins. When I discovered Liberty’s approach to education, Iwas ecstatic because finally, here was a common-sense approach to public education, which rejected the flawed, modern-day, progressive-romantic educational philosophiesrampant in our society. I could be a professional educator and fully believe in what I wasdoing. Now, under Mr. Schaffer’s and our Board of Directors’ leadership, I am honored to be ableto continue implementing the educational philosophy, policies, and academic programswhich are the hallmarks of Liberty's excellence. I am also honored to be on this journey witheach member of the Liberty community, and am committed to ensuring the Liberty wayremains strong and flourishes for years to come.

All the best,Torgun J. Lovely, Principal

AST Tip of the WeekUsing 9th-Hour Well. While our department always encourages spending some time in 9thhour fun clubs, we want to be sure you are making good choices when you need 9th hourhelp. First, prioritize which subjects need the most attention during 9th hour; the lower thegrade, often the higher the priority. Secondly, you do not need to wait to see your specificteacher. If someone else in that same department is available, go to their 9thhour. All of ourteachers are incredibly knowledgeable and would love to help you in any way they can.
