The Big Day is Just Two Weeks Away!

A milestone evening lies ahead

for all those at the 2016 Tennessee

Radio Hall of Fame Induction

Banquet on May 14. Scott Shannon,

a nationally known radio personality

who was in the first class of TRHOF

inductees, returns as our emcee for

the fifth anniversary event.

Only about two dozen seats are

still available for the event. If you

haven't bought your tickets, now is

the time! Go to the Hall’s website:

tennesseeradiohalloffame.org,

and purchase your table or tickets.

At this point, we are nearing sold

out status, but can still put two

more tables together. The individual

ticket price is $85. Tables of 10 are

$800. You save $50 by purchasing

an entire table. The ticket situation

is changing daily, so make your

purchase as soon as possible.

A special message to all

previous inductees: be sure to

wear your medallions to the

banquet!

In addition to honoring the 2016

Career and Legacy classes and a

Legendary Radio Station of the Year,

the Hall will also unveil a new award

that will be presented for the first time

at the 2017 banquet. Every radio

station in Tennessee will be eligible

for the award. Be at this year’s

banquet, and be among the first to

learn the details.

A note for swag lovers (and

aren’t we all?): The Hall will have

commemorative event mugs for sale

at the banquet, and we plan to have

samples of wearables on hand for

order-taking as well.

See you in Murfreesboro!!!

A Few Words from Our Producer

As we get closer to the fifth annual Tennessee Radio

Hall of Fame induction ceremonies, I was recently asked

by someone not in the media exactly what a "Producer" or

"Executive Producer" actually does.

I had to stop and think for a moment in order to fully

answer that question.

I mean, we've all done production work, right? But to

stop and actually verbalize what my role in our ceremony

is took a little bit of thought.

Wikipedia defines a producer as "one who plans and

coordinates various aspects of video production, such

as selecting scripts, coordinating writing, directing and

editing".

Well...that's a start. But when you're producing

something like our biggest affair of the year, there's a

lot - and I mean a lot - of moving parts. Where's

that perfect audio track? Which picture or video looks

best with that part of the story?

Do we stick with the first edit, go to the last one, or

what? There's only 30 frames of video per second...which

do we start with? And which do we end with?

And when you're trying to make it look as good as our

voice guy, John Young, makes it sound...that too is an

even bigger challenge!

Plus, when you personally or professionally know, like

and respect the folks you're doing stories on, the pressure

steps up a bit. Do you remember being in the infancy

stages of your broadcast career and knowing your

Mom or Dad was listening to you on the air, and you

wanted everything you did to be PERFECT? It's kind of

like that, only more so.

I have the privilege of working with a truly great

group in the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame. Each

and every one does their part to make sure our special

evening is truly one to remember. And I have the privilege

of assembling the stories and videos that hopefully will

pay a worthy tribute to each inductee. Also, there are

always a million things that pop into mind at the strangest

times leading up to our banquet.

Sometimes, as a producer, you feel great. Other times,

you feel like the best boy has hit you right in the grip with a

gaffer!

But when I see the grins, guffaws, and sometimes a

few tears on our inductees faces...it's the best feeling in

the world.

While the production styles and storytelling methods

will change over the years, one thing will not: Tennessee

has a wonderful broadcast history and has produced some

of the finest talent anywhere. And our board's personal

dedication to telling those stories and paying our respects

to their accomplishments will never change.

Radio is the original social media. We have a lot to be

proud of and a lot to celebrate - and we will do just that on

May 14!

Above: Chapman toiling away at the audio and video in search of the perfect mix he always seems to find.
