NOTES &c FROM NJFC . . . , From the looks of the above, our membership i s really climbing now, a s we 0 show a net gain of about 20 members t o date in just over two months. It begins t o look as though the Post Office will indeed raise rates to 10# per ounce for 1st class and 13# per ounce for Airmail, a l l about January 5th. As soon as the official ahnouncement i s made, we'll be forced t o be- gin the incredibly tedious process of re-computing a l l member s' expiration dates backward by two issues to cover the cos'ts of the increase, which amounts t o 806 per member, or about 2 issues, since we're actually making .an increase of $1.00. The difference will go to cover increases in paper costs which will be applicable when it comes time t o renew our printing contract in September. Additionally, we have sent letters t o a l l of our mem- bers who been receiving DX NEWS by Third C l a s s &il, informing them that We are losing money on Third Class memberships while they are losing prompt delivery. We will therefore be prorating our Third Class Members t o bring them Up t o our new First Class rates. Members who have renewed mminued on page 3

U.S. VIRGIN ISIANDS -. In i n i t i a l decision on 8-27, FCC granted a new s t a t i o n on 1090 kHz with 500 wat ts a t Fredericksted, St. Croix. I have not seen any f i n a l grant of t h i s CP and the re was a competing appl ica t ion f o r a s t a t i o n i n h e r t o Rico.

GUAM - On 1-8-73 there was a appl ica t ion f i l e d f o r a new s t a t i o n a t Agana t o operate on 540 kHz with 1OOOO watts. This is j u s t a appl ica t ion and a s f a r a s I know no ac t ion has been taken yet.
