.
My Brothers in Christ,
It’s hard to believe that 2016 is fast coming to a close. Last
night we had our Testimonial Dinner for Richard Burg for
his great work this past Columbian Year as Grand Knight and
President of the E. J. Kenny Club. A Thank You is also in
order to Tom Gill for hosting last night’s event.
We also had a very successful Blood Drive in October
where we collected 38 pints. Thank you Brian Lee for your
continued efforts on this important event and thank you to all
that donated.
Here’s what is happening in the month of November:
Country Western Night (11/5), Delivery of Thanksgiving
Baskets (11/19). Everyone is welcome to help out and be part of this rewarding experience. The next
weekend we can also use your help to install the Keep Christ in Christmas signs around town
(11/26).
December is also busy: 300 Club Party (12/2), Children’s Christmas Party (12/10), Council
Christmas Party (12/20) and the New Years Party (12/31)
The C & B program is winding down for 2016-2017. To date we have sold over 510 books. Let’s
see if we can add to this number before the big drawing on December 3rd.
Finally as I said in my prior notes, this year can only be a success if you get involved. Please try to
come to a meeting and consider helping on one of the many committees/events we have at Joseph
Barry throughout the year.
Vivat Jesus

Joseph Barry Council
Financial Results
2015-2016
I would like to report to the members of
Joseph Barry Council the financial results for
the fraternal year ending June 30, 2016. The
Council had a profit of $1,701 vs. a profit for
the 2014-2015 fraternal year of $4,457. The
total profit decrease of $2,696 was due to a
decrease in member dues of $800, a decrease in
donations to the Council of $1,064, profits from
Council events increased by $2,008, our C & B
profits were $1,063 lower and we were able to
increase our donation to charitable organizations
by $1,004. Donations by our Honorary Life and
Honorary Members totaled $2,160.
I would like to thank all the Honorary and
Honorary Life members who made a donation
last year and hope that you will continue to do
so in the years to come. With your continued
support, the Council was able to increase our
donations and still maintain a small profit to
help us in the future.
Thank you for your continued support.

Dear Sister Columbiettes,
To say “thank you” not only is showing appreciation or
gratitude, but an emotional connection. It's a comfort
to know we can count on each other through whatever
comes our way. It's Thanksgiving time and I want to
thank our Sister Columbiettes for their support. We
have a thank you for Carmela Lancaster chairing the
back-pack annual drive. You put smiles on the faces of
children who need school supplies.
Our Chairlady Sheila Dooley did a super job with our
famous Supermarket Bingo. Assisted by Marie
Dunker. Shoprite and Stop and Shop Stores were
aware of our Supermarket Bingo by our members'
purchasing quantity of items. Thank you, Sheila.
“Keep Christ in Christmas” Knights of Columbus and
Columbiette holy day greeting! As we approach
Christmastime let's buy postage stamps that either
picture the nativity or the Madonna. Send Christmas
cards that indicate Jesus' birthday – Merry Christmas
not Happy Holidays. As you do your shopping when
you are greeted with Happy Holidays, answer Merry
Christmas.
Columbiette Christmas Party is scheduled for
Wednesday, December 7th (day before the feast of The
Immaculate Conception) at the Council. Carmela
Lancaster and Diana Sturges are hosting the festivities.
A birthday party for Jesus.
Prayers of Thanksgiving for my Sister Columbiettes,
Happy Birthday to Jesus, and a Happy, Blessed,
Healthy, Prosperous New Year 2017!
PEACE ON EARTH
Sincerely and fraternally,
Barbara DeSalvo, President

ADOPT A BIRD FOR THANKSGIVING 2016
The Joseph Barry Council, Knights of Columbus will again be distributing food for the needy at Thanksgiving time. This year the Human Services Office has asked us to include canned hams along with turkeys to fill our baskets. Some families find it more convenient to put a canned ham on the table instead of a full sized turkey. So when the supermarkets do their promotions for Thanksgiving, please think of the less fortunate and pick up a ham or turkey and donate it to the Council. If you are one of our out of town members or one of our generous local members, who would like to sponsor a basket for a needy family, all you have to do is send a check for $25.00 (or
more), made out to the Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving Committee. This will help us tremendously in reaching our goal. Please help us make this Thanksgiving food donation a success and help the Joseph Barry Council keep this program alive. During the week of November 14th to November 18th you can drop off your frozen turkey or canned ham at the Council between the hours of 3PM and 9 PM. If you have any difficulty bringing your donation to the Council, please call me, Brian Lee, at 516 749-4368 and I will be happy to pick it up.
Thank you in advance Brian Lee
The 300 Club has not done as well this year
as in the past. We’ve only been able to
collect on 251 of the 300 available numbers.
Further, some of these numbers were paid by
members who are no longer with us. As we
look to the 2017 year we’re going to make a
few changes as follows:
We’ll still try to sell all 300 numbers.
Therefore, anyone who wants to continue
with his number will be able to do so.
We will reduce by one the number of
prizes we pay each month. Now we pay one
$100 prize and five prizes of $50. We’ll
reduce that to the $100 prize but only four
prizes of $50.
Depending on how we do during the year
we may remove some of the smaller prizes that
we award at the end of year party. The major
prizes, however will remain.
Beginning with the March drawings we will
throw back any winning balls that have not
been paid and will draw another winner for
that prize. Prior to March 1 we’ll allow a
grace period on numbers that were paid for this
year.
Remember the party will be December 2nd
beginning at 7:30. Please bring a gift we can
include with Marines’ Toys for Tots
collection.

The Value of Life Insurance for Children
As a father, you worry about your children and do
everything you can to protect them. You try to raise
them right and make sure they are prepared to become
adults. But have you ever thought about buying life
insurance for your child?
When you insure a child, you are protecting his or
her future. Did you know that one out of every six adults
get rated, postponed, or denied for insurance
coverage? If you purchase a policy for your child from
the Knights of Columbus with a guaranteed purchase
option, it guarantees that more insurance can be
purchased for that child at certain set dates, without
proving insurability.
Unfortunately, as fathers we don’t have a crystal ball,
and we don’t know what the future may have in store for
our children’s health. But did you know that right now
you can purchase a child’s policy, in many cases, for
less than $10 a month?
I’ve heard it said that people don’t want to “profit”
from the death of a child, so they won’t purchase
coverage on their children. God forbid something tragic
happens, those funds can come in handy at a time
when finances will be the last thing on a parent’s mind. I
have never heard a story about someone who regretted
buying coverage on their child.
Contact me today to discuss the many policy options
for child plans, including 10- and 20-Pay life insurance.
