Message from our Grand Knight

Brother Knights,

With your help, I am going on

my ninth month as GK. February was a

month with activities.

February 1 Sunday, we organ-

ized to meet our new applicants in our

Info Night. February 8 Sunday, we cele-

brated the 78th birthday of our beloved

Chaplain Fr. Emmett with a lunch at Ho-

tel Saskatchewan. The same day at 7 p. m. we held the

1st degree exemplification at the Blessed Sacrament

Church. Welcome to our five new Knights!

February 15 Sunday, we held our yearly cele-

bration of our Ladies Night at Seven Oaks Inn. After a

hearty supper with some Filipino dishes, we had a video

presentation by Bro. Cris Masaoay and his wife Row-

ena. In the video, most members with their ladies were

dancing like pros. It was really fun to see your face with

a different body dancing with excellent choreography.

After the video, we did some karaoke singing.

We have a busy March ahead with a Chaplain's

Day March 11 and a mini retreat with the Fr. Burns

Council in St. Michael’s Retreat House in Lumsden on

March 17. On March 29, we shall have our tenth Anni-

versary. Come celebrate with us.

Efren A. Alejandria

Editorials: Lent, a Time of Reflection

February 25 was Ash Wednesday and some Knights

assisted in placing ashes on foreheads of parishioners at

churches. We were told to “turn away from sin and be faith-

ful to the Gospel.”

And so it started our Lenten season. For forty days

until Easter we spend our time on soul-searching, repentance

and fasting. We imitate Christ and feel the suffering of our

Lord when he went into the wilderness. Fasting such as ab-

staining from meat is an act of devotion that we should con-

sider doing in imitation. We may also consider giving up

certain luxuries and excesses in our lives.

During Lent, come to Holy Masses, daily if you can.

Walk with us the Stations of the Cross every Friday noon at

Blessed Sacrament and contemplate the passion of Christ

leading to His crucifixion, death and resurrection.

Stop and Smell the Roses

Remember that fleeting moment, the passing phase

and events in your life? What about the places you’ve been,

the family you have, and the friends you’ve made? How

many of these have we forgotten to appreciate or not had

time for? Do you recall ever feeling that “you could have” or

“you should have” at some point in your life? Well, I do.

And I have some regrets. How about the people around us?

Have we let our families, our friends and brothers in Christ

know that we appreciate them? One of the guiding principles

of the Knights of Columbus is “Time is fleeting, don’t forget

death “; which reminds us to use our time wisely and learn to

appreciate what we have now. Sometimes we forget to

“smell the roses” in our hectic daily lives.

Let’s not forget to say the words of gratitude to all

those who have been instrumental in bringing us blessings of

hope, showing us kindness and giving us a small measure of

happiness. A smile, a handshake or words of encouragement

can go a long way to reflecting the appreciation we have.

Our council is celebrating its 10th anniversary this

year and from the beginning we see the contributions that

many of our brothers have made to help us achieve our goals.

We are lucky to have a Chaplain who supports the principles

of our order and shows his pride in us. We have you, our

council brothers, without whom we could not have achieved

the high honors bestowed on us year after year. So let me

finish by saying “THANK YOU”.

JLA

Greetings,

Sincere thanks to Santo Nino

Council for hosting the first Degree exem-

plification on February 7, 2009. Eleven

new members were added to our Order.

Thanks also for your financial

donation of $ 1,000 towards the Special

Olympic Summer Games 2009. It is also

noteworthy that Santo Nino Council is in charge of the

Food Services Committee of the Summer Games. The

task is tedious and manpower intensive, but I know that

Council members are up to the challenge.

On a high note, may I congratulate the Council on

its 10th Anniversary on March 29. Through the past dec-

ade you have accomplished a lot for Charity, to the Com-

munity, to the Church your Families and to the Order.

May I acknowledge the dedicated Knights and Ladies who

carried on with the Council responsibilities which brought

us to the forefront.

Fraternally.
