Carla:Dan’s Imagination
Daniel received severalcoloring books for Christ-mas. He loves to create a
new page (or two) everyday and he proudly tapeseach one on his wall andjust sits in his own littleminion world surroundedby his friends. I rarely go into his
room because this is hisdomain and he likes hisprivacy. Well, I needed to go
into his closet and hangsome clothes up and I wasfloored when I opened hisdoor. Almost every inch ofhis walls is covered in pic-tures. My first reactionwas “where on earth didhe get all of this tape?” And my second reac-
tion was “this had to havetaken him forever to colorall of these!” I just stood there and
looked at every pictureand admired every detailof every single picture. I always knew that he
was very artistic but thisblew my mind. I wish Icould take a glimpse of hismind and experience hisimagination. He sees theworld as bright colors andendless wonder. He caught me looking
at his art and like any trueartist he quickly rushedme out of his room, heisn't finished creating hismasterpiece. I'm okaywith waiting. It's worth it.
On a personal note,Carrie, NooDy, Daniel, and I want to send out ourdeepest sympathies to thefamily of Jasmine Wade.
Our hearts break for you, please know that we arepraying for comfort andpeace for your family.

sell, but outright give thecommunity maintainingthe historic brick andwood structure the build-ing and the property, plac-ing his suggestion on theFebruary agenda and ask-ing the Coltharp citizensto return in 30 days. Spokesperson for thegroup Perry Philpottcalled on the Januarymeeting of the MonroeCounty Commission, coming forth in a publiccomment appearance andmade the case for a pro-posed private ownership
and told Philpott thecounty commission“should be open toColtharp getting to keepthe school.” “We’ll work with youand the county commis-sion…” But here, Bivins inter-rupted and spoke directlyto Philpott. “I make the motion wegive the community cen-ter to them so long as theColtharp people keep itup, or it comes back tocounty ownership.” Here, Bivins was inter-rupted, county attorneyJerome Melson remindinghim that no vote by thecommission by statutecould be taken on a re-quest during a public com-ment. “You’ll have to waituntil next month to askfor a vote,” Melson said. “Okay,” answeredBivins, turning to thecommission’s chairman,“put this on the Februaryagenda and I’ll make an-other motion nextmonth.” Chairman RichardKirkland said the matterwould be scheduled for of-ficial action in four weeks. After the meeting ad-journed and the audiencedispersed, Bivins told theBUZZ that for communi-ties to thrive, certainthings were needed. “Schools, churches, graveyards. Take themaway and you take theheart out of a community. It’s my firm belief that wemust give our communi-ties back to the people. And this is a real opportu-nity to do just that.”
and clarifying the formerone-room school housewas now a communitycenter, the site of socials, gatherings, special occa-sions, harvest suppers, birthday parties, and nu-merous other communityevents throughout theyear. “At one time, we had a99-year lease,” he said.“The county voted itdown and dropped it to 25years and now we haveonly six years of the leaseleft. We’ve put in a newwell pump and the schoolneeds a new roof and newwindows. It’s hard to putmoney into a building
with just six years left.” Philpott said thatrather than requestcounty money for upkeepand maintenance, theColtharp communitywould rather buy the cen-ter. He said the peopleliving near the old schoolproperty could form anon-profit organizationand purchase the facility, asecond option being thecounty might simplyannex it to the group. “If we converted tonon-profit,” he said, “wecould set things up so thatshould we ever disband, the building and propertywould return to countyownership.” Stressing that some-thing precious would van-ish with lack of interest inthe center, Philpott saidtoday’s world had “lost asense of community.” “Homemakers met, grandmothers cooked, wehad softball tournamentsand played our rivals inGudger and Mount Ver-non. We had taffy pullsand square dances. We’vepatched and patched andpatched. This school isclose to our hearts.” At this time from theaudience came a voice, that of Bill Dailey, anotherColtharp resident. “And Igot an education there forsix years,” he said, theroom guffawing. “Non-profit statuswould give us an opportu-nity to keep it,” saidPhilpott. “What wouldhappen, say, in 15 yearsthere’s a whole newcounty commission. Theymight cave in and axe anylease we might have andwe’d be gone.” County Mayor TimYates rose from his chair

One deer pro-vides as many as 168 mealsof venison.
“It is extremely impor-tant for people to gethealthy protein in theirdiets, but many familiesstruggle to find healthyprotein because it is oftenexpensive,” said Bell.“Hunters for the Hungryis a great organization thatmakes it possible for Ten-nesseans to get the proteinthey need for a healthybalanced diet, who mightnot otherwise have theoption.
