Misfit Acres Milestones

Fall 2008 Volume 2 issue 3

The day we had been

waiting for arrived late

August!!!! If you recall

the story of Tumbleweed

- the Barred Owl who

was found during a snow

storm by our son, you

will remember he has

been at the Raptor Cen-

ter since February 10.

His stay at the Center

was much longer due to

his loss of feathers

throughout his recovery

time.

All the captivity ended

on August 30 when two

volunteers from the

Center met us where

Tumbleweed was found

for his release back into

the wild. The volun-

teers were more than

happy to answer ques-

tions for us and pose

him for pictures. He is

now banded and the vol-

unteers told him he was

never to come to the

Raptor Center again -

that is only for hurt

birds. He was to be very

careful and not get hurt.

this area at Misfit Acres, but

not anymore! THANK YOU!!

Watonwan Farm Services

has donated 10 bags of

horse feed and 9 bales of

shavings to the Sanctuary

Horses of Misfit Acres. We

send our most sincere

THANK YOU!!

Additionally, we wish to

thank all the businesses

and individuals who have

donated to our upcoming

fundraiser. You will find an

extra page in this newslet-

ter listing the donations

that have come in so far.

Not sure where to start

here! A heartfelt THANK

YOU goes to Brian and

Linette for their kindness

in donating 10 round

bales of hay. Thanks to

their generosity, we

should be set for round

bales for the winter.

There are now 810 bales

of straw in our arena

Grandma not feeling good. All seems well now though? Not sure what that was all

about and neither was the

Maybe her old bones just needed a little rest.

And then there is BJ - Fat-boy- who decided to get a

Feet, feet, feet. Peanut and Dixie continue to keep us on our toes with their lit-

tle feet. Each of them seems to have good days and bad days but as of the writing of

this article, we are seeing more good days than bad.

Peanut was out running around the pasture with Faith and Abbey on Sunday

- something she has not done in a long time. We are

using Cookie’s little Saber Sneakers on Dixie’s back feet on her sore days and

seeing improvement in her mobility.

Abbey gave us quite a scare on Sunday night by insisting

on lying down - something she rarely does. All the little

ponies gathered around her

We have had a truly won-

derful summer out and about getting a chance to

meet so many people! Please remember that each piece of merchandise

you purchased from our display at these area

events buys feed, hay, far-rier care, and medical care

for the Sanctuary Horses of

Misfit Acres. Thank You to each of you for helping the

horses! We wound up our summer

schedule with the Amboy Arts n More Festival on

September 6. A warm THANK YOU to Jen’s Girl Scout troop for volunteer-

ing their time and energy to

go through the Amboy parade on a moment’s notice!

Tune your radio dial to 1420 AM on October 17 at 4:10 pm

as Bruce & I join Trish of KTOE radio for another fun

conversation regarding Misfit Acres and what else? Horses of course

tummy ache on Saturday

night. After walking him for quite some time, a little glim-

mer started to return to his eyes and he insisted on stand-ing with Montana. Montana

seemed to understand that BJ wasn’t quite feeling like him-

self and did not chase him. As for the balance of the Resi-dents, their lives are full of

hay, feed, treats, and lots of loving! And everyone is get-

ting winter fuzzy!! Augie and Magic amaze us

watching the bond they have built. April and Lucky have

learned if you stand just right in the pasture, you can see

movement in the house through the living room win-dow. So they watch us A LOT!
