ArshtConnect. This takes on an even more powerful role than we could have even imagined it would four months ago. If there has ever been a time where we are constantly reminded that the only thing constant is change, it is now.

Change can be disruptive and challenging, but also produce the most beautiful of results, similar to that of the butterfly.

To the outside world, the Center is closed, but internally, many of our colleagues, no friends…...no family are stepping away for a bit. I see it as us going into a cocoon, a hibernation of sorts; to rebuild, reinvigorate and reenergize as we are going through a an arduous transformation. Although excruciating, painful, stressful, when we open back up, we will emerge better than we could have ever dreamed.

In the meantime, let’s stay engaged and “ArshtConnect-ed”until we can see each other in person again.

——————————————————————————————————————

“We live in unprecedented times. For months we, as Arsht family, have lived and worked apart from each other. Friendships that grew and flourished in our halls have had to come up with new ways to maintain their connections. Over the past four months we have seen protests, pandemics and economic upheaval, and now many of us are dealing with furloughs, layoffs and pay cuts. It can be all too easy to become disconnected and depressed. However, we ARE family, and though we are being tested I know that we will rise and flourish again because of our philoso-phy of Ubuntu”.— Michael McCabe

Each Sunday Michael will send out the programming for the following week via Constant Contact. The links to the events will be on this email. Come to one, come to all, or pop in whenever you can.

In order to receive the email, however, Michael will need your personal email ad-dress. In order to provide some level of security and prevent hackers entering our Zoom rooms, the only thing I ask is that you NEVER post the Café ‘Buntu email on social media, and do not forward the email to anyone. If you know someone that would like to participate, I am open to adding them but please have them contact him at his email listed below.

He hopes to include Morning Meditations, Yoga, Movie Nights, a weekly Bach’s Lunch, etc. in the near future and he also has some guest speakers lined up! If there are talents and hobbies you would like to share, please let him know. We can build whatever we wish, it is OUR Café!

On that note, anyone who would like to help as part of a programming team to cu-rate the Café’s offerings, please contact me as well.

I hope to see you at the Café soon!

The advisory team has still been meeting although we are away. We have

been discussing several ways to continue to make the volunteer team

viable while we are apart. The meetings have been going very well and I

am excited to share some of the ideas we have come up with, we just need

to finalize some details. Our next meeting is Monday, August 3, 2020 at

4:30p. If you have anything you would like us to discuss, please tell an

advisory team meeting or you can e-mail us at volun-

[email protected].

DEI TASK FORCE (DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION)

As a result of our open forum discussion, we are creating a Diversity,

Equity and Inclusion task force. The focus will be to make sure our

cultural backgrounds, ability, sexual orientation, etc. It will include both

external outreach and internal education to enhance our learning and

understanding of our differences. If you are interested in being a part of

the task force, please e-mail me at [email protected] to

receive more details.

Our Arsht@Work Resume and Interview Prep service has been receiving a wide range of recognition. With that we have been receiving a large number of applicants where English is not their first language. In order to expand our reach, we are looking for translators to help our HR team as they give feedback to candidates who register for the service. If you are interested, please e-mail me at [email protected]

#MiamiArtStrong Campaign. The

Arsht has partnered with 20+

cultural orgs for the awareness

program #miamiartstrong. Please

post your experience, a photo, the

hashtag and tag the Arsht Center.

Hashtags work mostly on Instagram

and Twitter so using those two

platforms would be a priority.

Facebook is nice as well. This would

be a great way to get awareness out

there for the Arsht Center and other

cultural organizations.

Fun, Films & Families ART MATTERS

The Solution to Covid’s Quarantine Quagmire!

Netflix, Hulu, Starz and Disney have kept every-one entertained AT HOME!

However, cooped-up cabin fever and fettered frustration have sparked America’s ingenuity bringing back an old favorite entertainment op-tion: DRIVE-IN MOVIES.

Famous for both families packed into cars and couples’ dates, the retro, resurgence of this phe-nomenon is providing a safe and affordable OUT-OF-THE-HOUSE evening.

Miami Shores, Biscayne Park, El Portal and the Upper Eastside is closest to North Miami’s Dezerland Park Carflix Cinema which offers different movies every week. Family-Friendly Flicks like Sonic the Hedgehog and Jurassic Park and new movies are shown at 5 and 8 p.m. Saturdays.

Dezerland uses a 40-foot screen with state-of-the-art technology to entertain families as they watch movies while enjoying popcorn and refreshments. The venue provides audiences with an app to order food that's delivered to personal cars. No outside food or beverage is permitted.

To avoid any screen blocking, SUV’s and trucks will be parked in designated areas.

Tickets are only sold through the company's website. Finding it is easy, turn left onto 146th Street across from the ‘old’ Costco and left again on NE 19th Ave. Dezerland Park Miami. 14401 NE 19th Ave., North Miami; 786-590-5000; carflixcinema.com. Tickets cost $30 per car. [email protected]. https://dezerlandpark.com/miami

Also, in Miami-Dade County:

Wynwood’s Carpool Cinema, is first come, first serve parking. Rain or shine. Arrive on time to park and order food & drinks. SUVs and trucks will be parked in designated areas to avoid block-ing the screen for others. Covid Rules: Guests must stay in their vehicle during the movie except to use the restroom, and must wear a face mask when leaving the car! Pricing is per car, $45 or $50.2418 NW 25 St Miami Ave, 305-396-4915; [email protected] https://carpoolcinemawynwood.com.

In Stadium, Drive-Up Theater at Hard Rock Stadium offers a big extra! Movies are viewable from the comfort of guests’ vehicles as well as their own private “Tailgate Space” located directly in front of each car. Guests are encouraged to bring tailgate chairs so set up for the most optimal viewing experience! Guests are allowed to bring food & beverage inside the stadium to be con-sumed within their reserved private viewing area however, no grilling or cooking of any kind is permitted. There is also an in-stadium menu that allows food to be ordered by text and delivered directly to vehicles.

Tickets, $39 ea., plus tax and fees, total $48.30 ea. 347 Don Shula Drive Miami Gardens; 305-943-800; [email protected] https://hardrockstadium.com/theaters;

Tickets can be purchased tickets through Ticketmaster, or a representative over the phone. (https://am.ticketmaster.com/dolphins/#/).

Partyflix offers outdoor movie screen rentals in Miami. Host your own big movie screen event! The company sets up a big inflatable screen that projects either DVD or BluRay movies. Each setup includes: an inflatable screen, commercial grade projector and premium sound system. Renters can also hook up their favorite video game systems or live TV shows to watch on the big screen. Screens can be set up both Indoors or outdoors. 855-305-3549; https://www.partyflix.com/services/.

It's SAFE to SOCIALIZE with YOUR family, in YOUR car! It’s
