Position Type Western?s Volunteer Program (WVP)Job Title Lab AssistantJob Location 3057 BGS, UWO CampusJob Description

Each year, a small number of Western undergraduates assist in my lab's research; their work is highlyappreciated and contributes to the success of my own and my graduate students' research. The idealcandidate is bright, enthusiastic, meticulous, and reliable - even mundane tasks have to be donecorrectly and samples labeled accurately for our work to succeed. Our work is on ecology andevolutionary relations of soil fungi - mushrooms and moulds and their relatives - and involvesmicrobiology (culturing), basic molecular biology (DNA extraction and PCR amplification), andbioinformatics (sequence editing and analysis). Volunteers usually start on the most basic tasks andprogress as their skills and experience increase. If you have a 4-5 hour block of time each week thatyou could spare (alternate arrangements can be made in the case of exams or assignments), have therequired characteristics mentioned above, and are interested in gaining experience in a biology lab, please send me <[email protected]> an email with your unofficial transcripts and cv.
