The Hereford

Contact

Centre offers a safe, friendly and

neutral environment where children of

separated families can spend time with one

or both parents and sometimes other family

members. Sessions are held on Saturday

afternoons and volunteers help with

running the cafe, maintaining the toys

and games, registering attendance and

setting up and clearing away.

The VIP club for visually impaired people runs in central Hereford on first

Wednesday of the month except for January

and August, between 10.15am and 2.15pm.

The 16 clients need someone to socialise,

arrange some activity, e.g. quiz or read to them. Also help with lunch by

cutting up food. Group are quite elderly (75-

early 90s) and not very active.

Mad about cats? Then join the new

Hereford

Adoption Centre

Friends Group which will raise funds for the running of the

Cats Protection Centre at Allensmore. They

need a co-ordinator, secretary, treasurer,

events organiser, marketing person and

event supports .

Churches in

Hereford are

distributing bags of

food to the needy on weekday mornings and would like some

help with making the up the bags,

distributing them, keeping names of

recipients and doing a spot of stock control.

The Hereford

Photography Festival requires friendly people at

various venues around the

city to manage its exhibitions

when open to the general

public. This generally involves keeping an

eye on the exhibits and providing

information on the displays.

A residential centre for people with

physical disabilities would

really love you to come along

and join in with cooking

Sunday lunch. You don’t have to be a Jamie Oliver and you

don’t have to help every Sunday but a food

handling certificate would be really useful.

emotional support for those going through difficult

times, who are in despair,

feeling suicidal or have no

one else to turn to.

Experience or qualifications not essential

but you do need to be open-minded and non-

judgemental. Full training given.

hearing loss and would

like to recruit volunteers

from around the Ross area to help their

clients access services that they may

struggle with. Examples would be

shopping and going to social activities.

WRVS lunch clubs give older people the

opportunity to leave the

house, to meet old friends

and make new ones in a

warm and friendly setting

while enjoying a hot, healthy balanced and

nutritious meal. So could you spare a

lunchtime to help serve lunches and wash

up at the Club in Ross which runs daily

between 11.45am-1.30pm?

Volunteers needed each week

with own transport to

take small groups

of older and

lonely people to places of interest in and around the

county on Sundays. The outings, which usually include lunch, are targeted at people

who feel more comfortable being in a

smaller group rather than a coach party.

Altogether there is a maximum of nine in a

group with three volunteers.

Megan Baker House provides free conductive education to children and adults with cerebral palsy and other motor related problems. It relies on community fundraising events and needs to find more enthusiastic people to run events such as coffee mornings, car boot sales or sponsored events

The Leominster Youth Hostel would be very grateful to find some help with maintenance and general running of

the centre. Gardening volunteer also needed for a few hours a week to keep the Hostel grounds tidy.

Walk leaders or back up leaders required for woodland walks in Queenswood which form part of the Walking for Health initiative. The walks last ½ to 1.5hrs on Tues and Thursdays (start at 10.30am) and are easy to moderate. Training provided

Home from Hospital desperately needs new volunteers in the

Leominster area to support people as they settle back in to their homes after a stay in hospital or other domestic crisis with practical tasks such as shopping, collecting prescriptions, providing transport etc as well as providing companionship and emotional support. No personal care involved

getting the benefits they are entitled to because

they struggle with filling in

the application forms. So volunteers are wanted in and around

Bromyard that could help with this. Times

drivers, either using their own cars or the scheme’s vehicles, take them to essential

who run workshops on Friday evenings and weekends at different times of

the year.

The Age Concern day

centres provide a valuable opportunity for the elderly to

to enjoy a day out, share a cooked lunch and

join in the activities which provide an

opportunity to socialise. These centres rely

heavily on volunteer help and more are

needed in Peterchurch on Mondays,

Tuesdays and Wednesdays and in

Longtown on Weds and Thurs
