Non-Core Classes

To provide continuity with instruction, the following tasks have been developedfor students.

Volusia County Schools  Instructional Continuity Plan   Page 14Last Modified: 03/27/2020

Students may use the Instructional Continuity Log for Non-Core Classes(hyperlinked here) to engage in activities that are relevant to each of their non-core courses. (Online digital resources are being created in Canvas for accessstarting April 6th.)

For example:

Performing Arts: practice tuba, compare 2 pieces of music, practice sight-reading

Visual Arts: visit a virtual gallery, create art, work on Visual Arts Q4 InstructionalContinuity Plan

Health & Physical Education: warm-up, practice skills, read about nutrition

World Languages: access instructional materials through V-Portal, use onlinepractice resources

CTE: work on your current project, research a career related to your currentcourse or area of study, continue to prepare for industry certification exam

(Teachers may elect to direct their students to complete course-specificassignments.)

Senior students with less than 1 credit in Performing Arts/Practical Arts creditand/or less than 3 elective credits will use the Instructional Continuity Log forNon-Core Classes (see below) to engage in activities that are relevant to each ofthese courses. Core classes along the Performing Arts/Practical Arts, and having atleast 3 elective credits are important benchmarks to ensure on-time graduation.

For senior students working towards an industry certification through your Careerand Technical Education classes, your work will consist of practicing for theindustry certification exam through the specific platform that your teacher assignsto you. This is particularly important if you are expecting to use the industrycertification in lieu of a math or science credit to graduate.
