Optimized driveline for city trafficThe CNG engine – G9K320 – is a 9-litre Euro 6 engine using spark ignition technology. It can deliver up to 320 hp and 1356 Nm of torque. Generally a CNG engine is perceived less noisy than equivalent diesel engine at idle speed with no load.

The Volvo FE CNG is equipped with a six-speed fully-automatic transmission – AL306. The hydraulic power transmission absorbs all snatch and unevenness in the driveline. In the gearbox’s torque converter, engine torque is multiplied to provide high starting trac-tion. The software that controls the gearbox provides optimal fuel economy and driving comfort.

There are two types of reliable rear axles to choose between – RSS1344C with single reduction or RSH1370F with hub reduction.

CNG tanks for capacity up to 160 m3

The operating range is from 80 km to approximately 400 km and depends on the driving cycle, type of bodywork and number of gas tanks installed on the vehicle.

Volvo FE CNG has 3 or 4 tanks for compressed natural gas fitted on both sides of the chassis. The gas tanks, meet rigorous standards, are made of steel and are designed to resist a pressure of 500 bar. (2,5 times the normal pressure).

A standard equipped truck carries 120 m3 of gas, compressed to 200 bar, distributed in 3 x 100 litre tanks on each side. Optional supplementary 100 litre gas tank on each side are offered, with a total capacity of 40 m3 (+ 30 % operating range).

Standard fuel filling system is NGV1 (car nozzle). As an option also fuel filling system NGV1+NGV2 (truck nozzle) is available.

Volvo FE safety cabThe FE cab has an injury-preventive design featuring energy-absorbing materials that effectively shield the driver and passenger. The cab’s safety level corresponds to the Swedish requirements as per BOF10 (Vehicle Regulations), which among other things means it offers immense safety in roll-over situations.

It is fitted as standard with FUP (Front Underrun Protection), a safety system integrated into the front bumper beam. It prevents smaller oncoming vehicles from becoming wedged under the truck in a frontal collision.

The large windscreen has tinted glass. It can also be specified with electric heating. There is the option of doors with low kerb-view windows, that considerably increase the driver’s visibility alongside the cab.

Functional and ergonomicallyThe driver’s seat is ergonomically designed, with height and long-itudinal adjustment and adjustment of the seat cushion angle and backrest angle. It is also possible to specify seats with an integrated safety belt and there is a variety of equipment levels, for instance with air suspension and power adjustment.

The steering wheel is adjustable. Frequently used controls are within easy reach in or just behind the steering wheel. The door panel houses the controls for the power windows and there is also a storage compartment here.

The instrument panel has clear instruments and logically posi-tioned controls. The gear lever and parking brake are located on the engine tunnel.
