1. Mission and PurposeGitGud exists to provide players with an environment to improve, have fun, and gain experienceplaying on a competitive team. To support this, we have the following GG Core Values:

1. Skill Improvement2. Fun3. Competitive Teamwork4. Sportsmanship

This may lead us to make exceptions to, or even change, some of the rules. Along the same lines, any player/manager found to be abusing the rules or a loophole in the rules for any kind ofadvantage may be removed from the event.

2. Staff ClauseAll sta decisions are final!

The Tournament Lead(s) and Admins reserve the right to change, add, remove, or amend anyrules at any time. Interpretation of the rules and regulations within this rulebook lies with theTournament Lead and designated Admins.

Ocial Tournament Sta maintains authority over the operations of the tournament. Thefollowing Sta roles are defined on the Elo Hell Discord:

● Tournament Lead

● Regional Admin

● Division Head

● GitGud Sta

These roles are considered Tournament Sta and are considered judges/referees for theduration of the tournament. Each division will have a Division Head that is the point of contactfor everything concerning themselves and their division. The Admins will settle disputes andclarify rules as needed.

Team Managers are also defined on the Elo Hell Discord and are the primary point of contact fortheir team.

● Have no active bans on any Elo Hell Discord server

● Have an account in good standing with Blizzard and Overwatch Terms of Service

○ That account must be above level 150 and have its player profile set to publicduring match time (Tournament Sta can ask to have the profile unlocked at any

time during the tournament)1

○ The account must be at all times owned by the player who plays on it. 2

● Have a ping lower than 120 ms on your respective regional server

○ High ping not only aects your teammates but also aects your opponent so weask it is below 120 ms to ensure both sides have a good time

5. Team Eligibility5.1 Team PlacementsTeams will be placed into divisions by calculating their average team peak SR, which iscalculated by averaging the highest peak SR (any placed role) of all players on the team, fromthe last 2 seasons.

At the time of sign-up, up to two players can have a peak SR over the division limit, but noplayer can be above the individual player limit, as shown below:

Beginner Avg. Under 2499 Max. 2 players 2500-2750 (no individuals over 2750 SR)4

Rookie Avg. Under 2999 Max. 2 players 3000-3250 (no individuals over 3250 SR)

Intermediate Avg. 3000-3499 Max. 2 players 3500-3650 (no individuals over 3650 SR)

Advanced Avg. 3500-3899 Max. 2 players 3900-4000 (no individuals over 4000 SR)

Expert Avg. 3900 & above

❗If a team has 1 or more players that have a peak SR (last 2 seasons) over the individual SR

limit, then the entire team will be moved up a division regardless of average team SR. The sameis true if there are 3 or more players above the division limit.

Teams must have a minimum of 6 eligible players (max of 9) signed up to be entered into thetournament. Teams with less than 6 players will not be considered. Signing up does notguarantee you a spot.

Players must have all roles they want to play during the tournament placed for the currentseason in order to be eligible. Additional roles can be “unlocked” any time during the tournamentby placing the role for as long as they maintain a peak SR on that role below their division’sclimbing limit.

5.2 Player Graduation and ImprovementOnce the tournament begins, participants’ SR may change. Because we’re focused onimprovement, players are allowed to gain one rank of SR. Once an application has beenapproved, players may climb in SR within one division above. Any role that is above theclimbing limit (2 divisions above the one they play in) is not allowed anymore, but all other rolesare still allowed to be played. If all roles are above this limit, the player cannot play in their

4 Only in NA and if the demand is sucient. If there aren't enough signups, we will confirm with the team and letthem play in the Rookie division.

6

Page 8: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

division anymore. Advanced division players can climb up to 4299 and there is no SR limit tohow far an Expert player may climb.

💡Example: Player A signed up for GitGud with a peak SR from the current season of 2700 (i.e. on

tank), which placed them in the Rookie Division. Week 1 of the Group Stages just kicked o andplayer A has already climbed to 3100! This is allowed because player A, who started at 2700 SR(Beginner), can climb to 3499 SR before being disallowed to play a role. Player A can still play roleswithin the limit.

5.3 Team Managers/Point of contactEach team must have a Team Manager/Point of contact (Later referred as Manager) that willbe responsible for maintaining communication with their Division Head. Managers will also beresponsible for reporting ringers, reporting scores, liaising with the opposing team manager, andcommunicating disputes and issues to the Division Head or members of GitGud Sta. A TeamManager may be a player or non-player.

Each team must also have an Assistant Team Manager/Point of Contact that will do all theabove in the Team Manager’s absence. This may also be a player on the team or an outsidefigure. Team Managers can be added to the roster by using the Change Form available in themanager channel.

❗One of the two managers must be a player on the team’s roster.

5.4 BattlefyUpon approval of the team sign-up, the team must be registered on Battlefy. To avoid confusion, use the same name for Battlefy as for the tournament sign-up.

Prior to the start of the tournament, the Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager must beregistered on the Battlefy page for their regional tournament. This will be for the purpose ofreporting match scores.

The remainder of the team roster does not need to be registered on Battlefy.

7

Page 9: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

6. Regular Season PlayEach team will be placed into one of the divisions outlined at the beginning of the rulebook. Theywill each play their own Group Stage with each other followed by division-specific Playos.Group Stage matches can be rescheduled, but Playo matches may not be rescheduled unlessgiven permission by an Admin.

6.1 Group StagesGroup Stages will be played in a Swiss format.

PC: four weeks, two matches per week

Standard match times for NA and EU are respectively:

PC

NAEU

Friday/Sunday 8 PM EDT/ESTFriday/Sunday 8 PM CEST/CET

❗Broadcasted matches may be at a dierent time❗

Larger divisions will be split into multiple groups. The exact size and amount of groups dependson signups, the same goes for teams advancing to Playos.

If there are not enough signups for a specific division, teams will be moved to the next higherdivision (which will be communicated to the teams prior).

6.1.1 RescheduleReschedule rules are as follows (with the consent of the other team):

Friday games: Can be played any time from Wednesday to FridayScores need to be in by Friday 11:59PM EDT/CEST

Sunday games: Can be played any time from Saturday to MondayScores need to be in by Monday 11:59PM EDT/CEST

Game reschedules should be posted in your division-specific manager chat in the Discord usingthe following format:

8

Page 10: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

Example:[Division (Group - if applicable) Round.MatchNo] Rescheduled to [day @ time] @[othermanager]

The tagged manager must react to this message to confirm the change.

6.2 PlayoffsSubject to division size, playos will be in the form of a double elimination tournament with thebottom half of the qualified teams seeded into the lower bracket. All games will still be First to 3.

The number of advancing teams as well as the exact schedule will be announced shortly afterteams have been released. Broadcasted Playo matches cannot be rescheduled and sta mustpre-approve the rescheduling of any non-broadcasted games!

Advancing teams will be selected based on performance during the Group Stages by thefollowing criteria, in order:

1. The Teams Opponent's Match Win Percentage5

2. The Teams Game Win Percentage6

3. The Teams Opponent's Opponent's Match Win Percentage

Those tiebreakers are the default on Battlefy and can’t be modified.

All teams that are playing in a broadcasted Playo match must use the provided Voice Channelsin our Discord.

❗Playos will have all maps available (besides Paris and Horizon).

6 Similar to the match-win percentage, a team’s game-win percentage is the total number of game points theyearned divided by the total game points possible (generally, 3 times the number of games played). Again, use 0.33 ifthe actual game-win percentage is lower than that.

5 A team’s match-win percentage is that team’s accumulated match points divided by the total match pointspossible in those rounds. If this number is lower than 0.33, use 0.33 instead. The minimum match-win percentageof 0.33 limits the eect low performances have when calculating and comparing opponents’ match-winpercentage.

9

Page 11: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

7. Matchday7.1 Lobby SetupThe left (or top) team per match on Battlefy is responsible for hosting their match lobbies.

Lobby Settings are as follows (the current workshop code can be found on our Workshopwebsite):

● Presets: Competitive● Modes, All: Kill Cam O● Modes, All: Skins Disabled● Pause on Disconnect: O● Lobby, Spectators: None, Invite Only7

● Heroes, Hero Roster: Disable banned heroes● Server: Best8

Games are played on the live server patch. Heroes introduced after the beginning of GroupStages play will not be playable for the duration of the season and should be disabled intournament lobbies.

7.2 Starting a MatchMatches must start within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time unless Tournament Stahas been contacted to resolve any issues. This time should be used to check enemy teamrosters and ringers. If a team is not ready after 15 minutes, they must forfeit the match.

Starting a match implies consent and agreement from both teams that the lobby settingsare correct and that rostered players and ringers in the lobby are allowed.

❗Do NOT start the match if your team has an issue with how the lobby is set up or with

players (rostered or ringers) in the lobby. Contact available Tournament Sta to get helpresolving the situation. The match start timer will stop when sta is first contacted, regardlessof the answer or answer timeline. Any administrative decision regarding such issues is final.

8 A dierent server can be used if agreed upon by both teams. In case of conflict or issue, GG sta will impose aserver setting.

7Spectators are allowed under conditions accepted by both teams

10

Page 12: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

7.3 Selecting MapsMatches are determined by the first to reach three map wins (“First to Three”) and will includethe following map types in this specific order:

Control / Hybrid / Escort / Assault / Control not played yet

The following maps from each category can be selected (Group Stages only):

● Control: All control maps● Hybrid: Numbani / Kings Row / Eichenwalde● Escort: Rialto / Route 66 / Junkertown● Assault: Hanamura / Temple of Anubis / Volskaya Industries

❗Playos will have all maps available (besides Paris and Horizon).

The team on the left (or top) on Battlefy hosts the lobby. The first control map is preselected asfollows:

● Round 1 & 2(Week 1): Nepal● Round 3 & 4(Week 2): Lijiang● Round 5 & 6(Week 3): Busan● Round 7 & 8(Week 4): Oasis

7.1.1 PlayoffsIn the playos, the highest seeded team on Battlefy hosts the lobby and chooses the firstcontrol map played.

The highest seed is determined in the following way:

● In the upper bracket, the highest seed is determined with the highest starting seednumber

● In the lower bracket & Grand Final, the team that went further in the upper bracket willhost the lobby. If both teams had the same path, the starting seed number is the decidingfactor.9

If neither team reaches three wins after all five maps, then teams will play the Control map notplayed as the 6th and final map. If that 6th map should also not provide a winner, then the 7thmap will be the last Control map not yet played in the set.

9 In case of any confusion, GG sta will clarify which teams are considered the highest seed for each game.11

Page 13: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

If you are unsure about what team should pick the next map or side then please contact amember of Sta.

7.4 Pauses and DisputesIn between maps, teams may substitute players, change a player’s role, and/or receive coachingif applicable. Player/role changes and coaching may not happen during gameplay on a map or inbetween rounds of a map. Breaks between maps shall last a maximum of 5 minutes.

Teams are allotted a maximum of three pauses, with up to a total of ten minutes of pausetime per match. Those can be used in i.e. cases of technical issues or disconnects. If a playerdisconnects in the middle of a map, play out the team fight and then pause the game. If theissue has not been resolved by the time 10 minutes of pause time has been used, play shouldresume and teams should finish out the map.

A player that cannot come back should be replaced with either a substitute on the team rosteror a ringer after the current map is finished.

Once a team has used their three pauses, even if they have not used up the 10 minutes of pausetime, no more pauses may be allowed even if a player disconnects or another technical problemarises.

❗If a dispute arises between teams during a match, managers can request a referee by

tagging the NA/EU GitGud Sta role in your division’s manager chat. Once a member of sta iscontacted, pause timers will stop until a suitable solution is reached. As a reminder, any stadecisions are final.

Sta will make an eort to be present in the GG Questions For Sta Voice Channels duringstandard match times, so you can have matters resolved more quickly.

💡We encourage you to be understanding about any issues your opponents might have, as some

things are just out of anyone's control. Give the other team the benefit of the doubt, just like you’dwant if the same situation was flipped.

7.5 Ties and ScoresEach map win awards the team 1 point. The first team to reach 3 points wins the match.

If a map results in a tie, the team that most recently lost a map will select the next one, and theother team will select the side if applicable. No points will be awarded for a tie.

12

Page 14: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

If neither team reaches three wins after all five maps, then teams will play the Control map notplayed as the 6th and final map. If that 6th map should also not provide a winner, then the 7thmap will be the last Control map not yet played in the set.

If you are unsure about what team should pick the next map or side then please contact amember of Sta.

7.6 Match ChatMatches may be streamed! Match chat is reserved for team captains and should be kept cleanand professional. Interactions within match chat are subject to the same rules as our Discordservers and engaging in unprofessional behavior may result in disciplinary action.

7.7 Reporting ScoreOnce the match has completed, the winning team’s manager shall report the scoreimmediately on Battlefy. Scores inform matchups for the next round, so late score reports maybe reported as a tie so that the next round may be generated.

Friday games: Scores need to be in by Friday 11:59PM EDT/CESTSunday games: Scores need to be in by Monday 11:59PM EDT/CEST

❗The next round match-up’s relies on the correct scores, so please make sure you report the

scores correctly.

7.8 Forfeits and ByesTeams may choose to forfeit their match. In that instance, the team that forfeits will receive aloss while the other team that is not forfeiting receives a win.

A bye will be handled the same way, it will be recorded as a win without any map points.

8. Team ChangesDuring the season, Team Managers can make changes to their team by filling out the ChangeForm available in the manager channels.

The form can be used to add, replace, or remove a player on their roster, or change the nameof a player or the team. In addition it can be used to add or change managers/coaches.

13

Page 15: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

❗Only Team Managers are allowed to fill out the Change Form. The timeframe for changes to

be processed are at the discretion of the Division Head, but are guaranteed if they have beensubmitted at least 48 hours before a match. A member of the GitGud Sta will contact you ifthere are any issues with a change form.

8.1 Adding/Replacing/Removing a PlayerAfter signups have concluded, Roster Changes can be used to add, remove, or replace a player.Added players cannot have a peak SR (for any role) higher than the division limit in the last 2seasons:

Beginner Player < 2499 SRRookie Player < 2999 SRIntermediate Player < 3499 SRAdvanced Player < 3899 SRExpert No Limit

8.2 Change Discord/Battlenet ID/GamertagThe Name Changes are available for managers to inform us about changes in a player’s Discordor Battlenet, which is important to always be up to date on the Roster Sheet.

If the Battlenet for a player changes, please make sure to have a screenshot from the currentseason profile with the old name, as well as the same screenshot with the new name ready,as these are needed for the Change Form.

8.3 Adding/Changing/Removing Manager/CoachManager/Coach Changes can be used to let us know about changes in these roles, so they canbe updated on the Roster Sheet, as well as on Discord (managers have roles so they can seetheir respective Division channels). These changes apply to managers and assistant managers,as well as the coach.

8.4 Team InfoThe Team Info can be used in case your team name has changed or if you want to send us anew/updated logo (a dierent one than during signup).

14

Page 16: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

8.5 RingersRingers are not considered a permanent roster change and are therefore handled dierently. ARinger is defined as any player that is not currently on the team’s permanent roster but fills in fora rostered player that cannot make a given match.

A team may have a maximum of 2 ringers per match, unless more ringers have been agreed toby the other team. In addition, the same ringer can only be used for 3 matches before theyneed to be added to the permanent roster.

The player’s current season peak SR (for any role) must fall within their division’s limit andthey have to be placed on the role they are playing. Ringers also need to be above level 150.

Beginner Ringer < 2499 SRRookie Ringer < 2999 SRIntermediate Ringer < 3499 SRAdvanced Ringer < 3899 SRExpert No limit

❗Ringers should be relayed by the team manager to the opposing team in your

division-specific manager chat using the following format. Please make sure to add:

● Ringer Discord ID● Ringer Battlenet

Ringer current season screenshotExample:[Division (Group - if applicable) Round.MatchNo] Subbing [ringer Discord] [ringer bnet] for[roster player bnet] ROLE @[othermanager] <attach current season screenshot>

The tagged manager must react to this message to acknowledge that their opponent wants touse a ringer.

❗It is on the opposing team to vet these ringers before a competitive match starts. See 7.2

Starting a Match

9. ProductionBy participating in the GitGud Tournament, teams give Elo Hell the right to stream any of theirGroup Stage or Playo matches. GitGud Sta will either ask in the division-specific managerchannel if any teams want to be streamed or pick promising matchups at their own convenience.

15

Page 17: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

We will try our best to give teams as much advance notice as possible when they are going to bestreamed.

The appropriate Division Head will be in touch to provide more detailed instructions. Matchesmay be asked to start early or delayed for production purposes to get as many matchesstreamed as possible. Though sta will always make the greatest eort possible to notifyahead of time, the nature of online gaming and streaming means that some matches may beselected for streaming with little or no warning. Please work with the sta and be patient!

Teams must be on time if their match is getting streamed. Teams will not be allowed to play onstream without 6 players (unlike other Group Stage matches). No spectators are allowed, except for the production and tournament sta. During Playos, allbroadcasted teams should use the voice channels provided in our Discord.

For production and social media purposes, teams are encouraged to create team logos. Pleasefollow the guidelines on the logo guide.

❗Players may stream their own perspective of a game, whether it is being streamed by Elo Hell

or not. You are required to use a 2 minute delay to avoid stream sniping.

Please note, depending on OWL stream times, some matches might be recorded to bebroadcasted later.

The standard time for the ocial streams is (both on Friday and Sunday):

● EU: 19:30 & 21:00 CEST● NA: 7:30pm & 9:00pm EDT

16

Page 18: w e s c o r t ` Ta b le of C o nt e nts

10. Community StandardsPlayers and teams participating in GitGud are held to a high social conduct standard. Anyone orany team found in violation of this code (which includes toxicity, sexual misconduct, bullying, smurfing, etc.) will receive punishment accordingly. This may range from a warning, forfeitingmatch wins, or being ejected/banned from the tournament. Community members areencouraged to report unacceptable behavior to the GitGud administrative team. The GitGud Staand Elo Hell Esports employees who oversee it maintain the right to remove any member fromthe tournament for any reason at any time.

Internal investigations may not be handled right away - certain issues may take longer but stawill keep in communication and provide updates if necessary.
