By the end of this week: Revise your written RBA Continue to revise your Delivery of Research Presentation Whats the Plan, Stan? Next week: Delivery of Research Rehearsals First round of Delivery of Research Presentations Whats the Plan, Stan? U GLY S LIDES D ELIVERY OF R ESEARCH : U NSCRIPTED Find a partner Set up: Person 1: Open DoR Media, recording device (you can use PPT, phone, etc.) Person 2: Open word/google doc Delivery of Research: Unscripted Person 1: Present your Delivery of Research Presentation in its current configuration Person 2: Pay close attention to everything Person 1 says and type it all out! Try to write as accurately as possible. You may say pause to catch up Delivery of Research: Unscripted Switch Person 1 and Person 2 Delivery of Research: Unscripted Discuss with your partner What was the main point that you took away from the presentation? What was clear? What was unclear? Does the general structure support the argument? Delivery of Research: Unscripted R EVERSE O UTLINES Find a partner. Give your Current Draft of your RBA to your partner (send via/google docs, switch computers, etc.) Reverse Outlines Open a new blank word document/google doc Read a paragraph of your partners RBA. For each paragraph: Find the topic sentence. It should be a CLAIM. Copy it over to your blank document. If you dont find a topic sentence explicitly, write the claim you think your partner is going for in the reverse outline. Then, turn this one a bright color. Continue through the entire RBA draft Reverse Outlines Give your reverse outline to your partner. Discuss: What is the main argument of this paper? Do all of the paragraphs clearly support the main argument? Does the overall structure work to support the main argument? Reverse Outlines Review: Look through your reverse outline. Are the claims in each paragraph apparent? Reverse Outlines (transition) (optional: to connect the ideas between the paragraphs) CLAIM/Topic Sentence What do you argue in this paragraph? Evidence Show the reader that the claim is true Interpretation How does the evidence support the paragraphs claim? How does this claim support the main argument? (transition) (optional: to connect the ideas between paragraphs) A suggested paragraph formula R ADICAL R EVISION Open up the draft of your RBA Find a paragraph that you feel needs to be revised Radical Revision In that paragraph, select one sentence that is working pretty well. Copy that sentence to your clipboard. Radical Revision Open a new, blank word document Copy the working sentence to the blank document Radical Revision Now, close your RBA draft. Radical Revision Using the working sentence only, rewrite the paragraph. Radical Revision Now, open up your RBA again. Find the paragraph you just rewrote, copy it to your clipboard. Paste the original paragraph below the paragraph you just rewrote. Radical Revision Compare the two paragraphs. Are there sections that work better in one or the other? Highlight these. Radical Revision Now, form a new, hybrid paragraph combining the strengths of the two paragraphs. HYBRID VIGOR! Radical Revision Revise your RBA, turn in to Canvas tonight Create your Delivery of Research Presentation Practice it! Come to class on Tuesday ready to do a dress rehearsal of your presentation. For next time
