DEVELOP A CLEARCONCEPT AND CONNECT THE DESIGN TO ONE OF THREE GIVEN SITES ADJACENT TO MILLENIUM PARK. DESIGN MUST INCLUDE A VISITOR’S CENTER, CAFE, GALLERY, AND PERFORMANCE SPACE

S I T E : LOCATED ALONG CHICAGO’S LAKEFRONT JUST STEPS AWAY FROM THE ART INSTITUTE AND MILLENIUM PARK, THE SITE LIES ON A CENTRAL AXIS THAT LAYS OUT GRANT PARK FROM DALEY BICENTENNIAL PLAZA TO BUCKINGHAM FOUNTAIN. A 14’ GRADE CHANGE FROM MONROE ST. TO THE UPPER SIDEWALK DOMINATES THE SITE ALONG WITH A ROW OF TREES ALONG THE SOUTH SIDEWALK

C O N C E P T : A CENTRAL PERFORMANCE SPACE VISIBLE THROUGHOUT MUCH OF THE SITE THAT IS BORDERED BY TWO IDENTICAL SPACES AND MIRRORED PATHS OF CIRCULATION, REFLECTING THE SYMMETRY OF THE SITE. AS A RESPONSE TO THE ABRUPT HEIGHT CHANGES OF THE PARK, “WAVES” OF CIRCULATION ARE INTRODUCED TO EMPHASIZETHE GRADATIONS
