Prelude Cathy Murch Welcome and Opening Prayer Rev. Frank Bernat *Hymn Blessed Assurance UMH 369 *Affirmation of Faith The Lenten Creed Rev. Bernat

I believe in God the Creator, who made me and all things, who set me on my path in this world. I believe in God the Savior, who is one with the Creator, who rescued me and all creation from the

punishment of our violations against God and creation. This man, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, walked a path through this world, taking on human form having been born of a woman through the power of the Holy Spirit. He lived and worked in this world among people just like me. He walked God’s path to death on a cross, and rose from the dead to open our pathway to eternal life.

I believe in God the Holy Spirit, my counselor and guide, who is one with the Creator and the Christ, who through the body and blood of Jesus brings me into communion with all people, past, present and future; who calls me to walk a sacred way of life through this world, caring for creation and the people I meet on the way, loving them, helping them, welcoming them without prejudice, being God’s hands and feet in the world.

Praise and Thanksgiving Rev. Bernat Prayer Concerns and The Lord’s Prayer Rev. Bernat

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we

forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Offering/Offertory Cathy Murch Message FINAL WORDS - “Forsaken” Rev. Bernat Mark 15:22-36 (pg. 721 ) Sacrament of Holy Communion UMH 12 Rev. Bernat

We practice "open communion," welcoming all who love Christ, repent of their sin, and seek to live in peace with one another. You do not need to be United Methodist or a member of Bethlehem First United Methodist Church to receive the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

All are invited to come to the Lord’s Table.

*Benediction Rev. Bernat

WELCOME | We are glad you chose to worship with us today! Please enjoy some coffee and refreshments in the Stars Cafe before the service begins. During the service, you will have a chance to respond to the message using your Connection Card. Please complete the card and return it to us in the baskets at the rear of the Worship Center. For our first-time guests, we have a special gift available for you as you leave the Worship Center.

LORD, HEAR OUR PRAYER | Every day, people in our community struggle to make ends meet, struggle with marriages and relationships, and hurt over disease and the loss of loved ones. All of us find ourselves in need of God’s grace and looking for prayer. This week, we invite you to pray with others from our community of faith each day at 11 AM. You can pray for those who have experienced pain and loss; pray for those struggling in relationships; pray for your neighbors and community leaders; pray for the Church and your pastors. You may also share your prayers each day on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #HearOurPrayer.

WHAT’S NEXT? | We want to help you with the “next step” in your faith journey. At the end of the service, we will identify three easy steps for you. However, your next step may be something we have not identified because that step is different for everyone. Use your Connection Card or stop by our Guest Services Desk in the Stars Cafe and let us help you discover some practical “next steps” just for you. Discover more online at www.bethlehemfirstumc.com/next.

#SUNDAYSONGS | Music for today’s gathering: “This Is Amazing Grace,” “God Is Able,” “Sons and Daughters,” “I’ll Fly Away,” and “Forever Reign.”

PRELUDE / BRINGING IN THE LIGHT NeeCee Delk

CALL TO WORSHIP & INVOCATION Karen Smith

Lift up your voice and call out to God.

We cry out, believing that God hears us.

Come together and wait for God.

We come together, trusting that God is still speaking.

Surely God’s presence is here with us now.

We wait in hope, for God’s steadfast love lifts our hearts.

Come, worship the Lord.

We celebrate the power of God that restores us.

INVOCATION Karen Smith

Hear us now, O God, as we gather to worship and to praise you. We are grateful that even in our

hopelessness you never leave. When we cry out to you we believe that in your mercy you hear us. Your

presence is here with us, even now. Help us to remember that on the cross your son was left alone with

our suffering and pain. We wait now in hope of your steadfast love that never leaves us or forsakes us.

We give you all the glory and honor. In the name of your son, our savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

CELEBRATE EASTER WITH US Holy Week and Easter Sunday are important days in the life of the Methodist Church. Mark your calendars now for the events and worship times offered by Bethlehem First UMC. Community Easter Egg-Stravaganza - Join us for our Community Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 8, from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem Elementary School. Share this event with your friends and come out to enjoy the day!

Thursday, April 13 Symbolic Seder Service ...................................................... 6:00 - 8:30 PM, in the Fellowship Hall

Passover refers to God's deliverance of the Jews from slavery in Egypt as described in the Old Testament Book of Exodus (12:13). On the eve of the first day of Passover, Jewish families gather in their homes to celebrate a meal and prayer service called the Passover Seder. Join us on Thursday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m., as we celebrate the Passover with a symbolic Seder Service, meaning there will be no meal. This symbolic service will allow us to catch a glimpse into the Jewish roots of Christianity and to better understand the Jewish culture, especially as we read about it in the Gospels. However, and more importantly, it will provide an opportunity for us to remember what it was like when we were in Egypt, before our salvation in Christ.

Friday, April 14 Good Friday ............................................................................................... 12:00 PM & 7:00 PM

12:00 PM Service of Silence: Join us in the Worship Center as we remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. 7:00 PM Service of Shadows: The Tenebrae, Latin, meaning “Darkness,” is an ancient Christian Good Friday service

that makes use of gradually diminishing light through the extinguishing of candles to symbolize the events of that week from the triumphant Palm Sunday entry through Jesus' burial. The service concludes in darkness, symbolizing the death of Jesus. The worshipers then leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ's death and await the coming Resurrection.

Sunday, April 16 Easter Sunrise Service ......................................................... 7:00 AM, on the Square in Bethlehem

Community Sunrise Service - Join us for our Easter Sunrise Service on the Bethlehem Square. Invite your neighbors to join us, as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

the world. We offer a loving, nurturing environment in which to serve and worship Christ, and to grow

spiritually. We would love to have you join us each Sunday.

LEARN MORE:

If you would like to learn more about Bethlehem First UMC, please visit our website,

www.bethlehemfirstumc.com, speak with one of our pastors, call the church office, 770.867.3727, or email us,

WOULD YOU LIKE TO JOIN BETHLEHEM FIRST UMC?

Are you interested in exploring membership at Bethlehem First UMC? Join us Sunday, May 21st, for Coffee with

Pastors, at 5:00 p.m., room 125, to learn more about what membership looks like at Bethlehem First and discover if
