BLESS YOUR NEIGHBOR 2015 - ADOPT A TEACHER! We have nearly 200 local teachers to be “adopted” … select a teacher to bless with a personal note of encouragement and supplies! The Need: According to both school systems, the need for teacher supplies continues to be great. We will help with teacher supplies for our partner schools, Central and MLK, Jr. Elementary and at Holt High, Walker and Cottondale Elementary schools. The Process: You will “adopt” a teacher from one of the above schools at a table in the Great Hall or outside Chitwood Hall today & August 2. When you “adopt” you will receive a card with the teacher's name, a list of needed supplies, instructions to write a personal note of en-couragement, and instructions of when and where to return both note and supplies at the church. We will receive donations and teacher notes on August 2 and August 9.

UA Move In: Volunteer to help incoming students move into their housing. Work alongside UA personnel to assist students with unloading items. No heavy lifting re-quired! You will get a T-shirt, free lunch and an opportunity to show First Church hospitality to incoming parents and students! Choose a date to help: August 6, 7, 14, 15 or 16. Visit the website to sign up: http://housing.ua.edu/movein/volunteer_cfm/

Souled Out: Superstart 2015: Mark your calendars for Superstart July 31 - August 2! Super Start is for rising 4th graders through rising 6th graders. It's a fun way to wel-come in the new 4th graders and say good-bye to the 6th graders. Detailed schedule and sign-up information will be sent via email. Be sure that Leslie has your current email address. Contact her at [email protected].

Sunday School Teachers Needed: Would you like to teach Sunday School to the children of our church? It is a fun and rewarding experience. If you would like to join our teaching teams one time each month in the preschool or elementary area, please email Amy Thigpen, [email protected].

Summer Study Offered: Join the Covenant Class (3rd Floor) for a study of people who have been influential in the movement of religion in the world. No preparation is needed to participate and you can drop in and out as your summer travel schedule al-lows. Today, Rev. Ken Smith is teaching on Paul Tillich. If your class isn't regularly meeting in the summer or if you are looking for a class, please join us! Celebration Circle Dutch Treat Social, Wednesday August 5th at 6:00 p.m. New Or-leans Steak & Seafood Restaurant, 824 McFarland Blvd Northport. Giving to the Church – Real Estate. Transferring the title of a piece of real estate to the church is a strategy to help you avoid capital gains taxes and provide financial sup-port to the budget for programs of the church. As you consider your personal financial plan for this year and beyond, remember FUMCT. Your gift of land or a house could be the catalyst to start an important program for adult discipleship, encouraging small group interaction and spiritual development. If you are interested, talk to your financial advisor and to Gina Johnson in the church office.
