TRANSCRIPT
W-VAC12 - 17.5 kV modular switchgearProduct Focus
• Safety, Reliability andPerformance start withKnowledge andUnderstanding
• Compact flush-fronted or closed-door accessibilitysuits every application and environment.
• Circuit Breaker compartments containautomatically operated shutters for busbar andfeeder circuits with padlock facilities in the closedposition, and self-cancelling latch openmechanisms for testing.
• Positively driven indicators are displayed on thefront panel to show closing spring and breakerstatus.
• The stored energy mechanism is a true mechanically andelectrically trip-free design. Breaker contacts will not touch orclose if they receive a mechanical or electrical closecommand when there is a trip signal.
• For added operator safety, the mechanism is heldmechanically trip-free during breaker racking sequence.
• Interlocked and externally operated earthing switches forcircuit and busbars are available for all switchboards and forcircuits for motor starters.
• Circuit Breaker compartments are designed with horizontallywithdrawable carriages for single tier switchgear, andcassettes for double-tier switchgear and motor starters. Inboth instances the circuit breaker or contactor has a safetyinterlocked racking mechanism.
• Enclosures are sub-divided to form self-containedcompartments separated by earthed metal division plates, and are KEMA certified to IEC 60298.
• Totally segregated compartment for Low Voltageinstrumentation and protection equipment.
• Internal Arc-proof breakers tested to IEC 60298Appendix AA are available. Arc flaps at the top of thehousing allow gases to escape and thus limit anypressure rise to a withstandable level; however, theflaps are strong enough not to collapse inwardsunder reasonable external pressure. The equipmentis designed to ensure minimum risk to personnel inthe event of a fault.
• Metal-clad according to
IEC standards
• Arc proof according to
IEC 60298 Appendix AA
• Modular design suitable
for OEM applications
• Single & double tier
• Rear cable entry boxes
• UK: ENA approval
W-VAC Applying advanced technology with proven engineering
excellence, the Eaton brand of W-VAC provides the highest
safety and reliability standards without compromising
competitiveness. Unique design features and modular,
metal-clad construction allow extreme flexibility to
meet customers’ individual specifications.
ReliabilityEngineered solutions, designed with experience
For ultimate flexibility and maximum operator safety,Eaton switchgear comes with a full range of options• VTs available in either fixed or isolatable versions,
circuit or busbar connected, with fixed or removablelinks or MV fuses.
• Top or bottom MV segregated cable entry is available.• Terminal boxes can be individually segregated.• Optional secondary cable termination compartment
arrangement is available.• Carriage position switches to indicate service and
isolation are optional.• Can be supplied with Mechanical key interlocking.
Earth switching functions designed with operatorsafety, cost-efficiency and customer uptime in mind
Busbar Earth Switch (Single Tier format)Mounted in a segregated box on top of the rearcompartment of the housing, the busbar earth switch isoperated externally. It can be locked on or off withpadlocks or with optional key-coded locks. Arccontainment types are always operable from the front.A failsafe “reverse operation collapsible joint” isdesigned into the operating handle. The handle must beremoved and turned between opening and closing toprovide the vital seconds of delay needed to clear anypossible fault.
Circuit Earth SwitchThis switch is mounted and operated in the rearhousing of the unit. For safety it cannot be operated ifthe carriage is in service. As with the busbar earthswitch, the operating handle contains a collapsiblesafety joint. An interlock also prevents the carriagebeing placed into service when the Circuit Earth switchis “on”. The switch can be padlocked “on” or “off”.
Portable Earthing SwitchAlso available as an alternative to the fixed type is anearthing switch mounted on a horizontal, withdrawablecarriage which when in use replaces the Vacuum CircuitBreaker.
Safety interlockingSafety is the highest design priority of the product andthe equipment is fitted with integral safety interlocks toguard against maloperation.
Voltage TransformersVoltage Transformers can be withdrawn for isolation bymeans of an externally operated padlockablemechanism. MV fuses can be provided. Fixed VoltageTransformers with removable links or MV fuses can beisolated by disconnecting a set of links or removal ofprimary MV fuses.
Easy access top or bottom MV segregated cable entry with optional segregated terminal boxes.

PerformanceUsing world-leading technology and proven design solutions engineered for safety and efficiency
SafetyAt the heart of Eaton’s brand of Medium VoltageSwitchgear and Motor Starters sits the world’s leadingVacuum Interrupter.
KnowledgeOur research into vacuum technology started in the1920’s and continues today … a commitment toimproving performance and decreasing cost.
UnderstandingWe designed the technology. The Eaton VacuumInterrupter is the focus of eighty years of experience.
ExperienceMillions of our vacuum interrupters have been inoperation, in every sort of environment in the world, catering for the widest range of applications.
Vacuum TechnologySaves Space and Money Perhaps the greatestadvantage of vacuum technology is the compact size ofinterrupters.
Low Maintenance Operation Fewer moving parts in the pole units versusother arc interruption technologies givegreater reliability.
Longer LifeContact designs prevent hot spots, createless heat and minimise electrode erosion toyield longer life.
Minimal moving parts provide low maintenance VacuumInterrupter operation.
Increasing global legislationconcerning the use of greenhousegases such as SF6 and their relateddisposal costs, makes vacuumtechnology with its reliability, lowmaintenance, and low environmentalimpact the choice for now and thefuture.
Innovative in its design, field-proven over thirty
years of vacuum circuit breaker production and
fully KEMA Certified to IEC 60298, IEC 60129 and
IEC 60056, Eaton’s brand of Medium Voltage
Switchgear and Motor Starters leads the world in
safety, reliability and performance.
