National Volunteer Month Shelter, refuge, and a new beginning for abused women and their children April 2010 April is National Volunteer Month. We are pleased to celebrate a few stories of our volunteers with you in this issue of our newsletter. The Sheepfold has hundreds of volunteers that help us with our mission of serving the widow and fatherless. We could not give the quality of service to our moms and kids without the gifts and resources of our awesome volunteer partners. As you read these stories and facts you will see diversity of talents and how each one of them is a blessing to the families in our shelter. The body of Christ working together is incredible to witness. The scripture in 1Corinthians 12:12 comes to life at The Sheepfold. “The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.” One example is a recently completed project called, “Kate’s Memorial Garden.” A few years ago a dear friend of our ministry lost her daughter, Kate, to domestic violence. Every year in our country over 1,000 women lose their lives due to a domestic violence relationship. As we educate the moms in our shelter and serve them with Jesus’ love, our hope is they are never in an abusive relationship or worse yet, they would become a statistic. The Orange County 2nd step apartment has a small grass area alongside one of the apartments that the gophers called home. We thought a memorial garden would be a blessing for the families living there, giving them a peaceful place to sit and pray and just enjoy the outdoors. We had it on a wish list for any volunteer group who wanted a project. We were contacted by a wonderful group of Christians from Huntington Beach called, “Nails in His Hands”. They raised the funds and an army of workers to do the job. In one day they transformed “gopherville” into an awesome garden that includes an arbor and benches. Kate’s favorite tree was the Jacaranda which now sits in the center of the garden. Thank you for being a co-laborer at The Sheepfold. God Bless you. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

The Hands and Feet of GodThe Hands and Feet of GodTrinity Law School of Orange County California has partnered with us in providing a chance

for some of our ladies to be legally free from their criminal past.

Trinity law professors and their students meet with our women to see if they are candidatesfor an Expungement of their criminal felony records. This is an exciting opportunity for them. Abreak they truly need in order for them to find employment. If you have a felony record, youcould be denied employment. Most places, even fast food establishments cannot hire a felon, so

many of our women find it almost impossible to find a job.

The Sheepfold is a place for a new beginning in His name. Many women come into our program, hear the promises of God,and accept their Salvation in Christ and they are told that their past has been wiped clean. With the help from Trinity LawSchool, even their legal past has been wiped clean. How amazing is this opportunity!

We love the miracles God works in the lives of the women and children that He brings to the Sheepfold. It is a blessing tomeet those who are His hands and feet working for His Kingdom sake. We would like to thank Trinity Law School for theirgenerous blessing!

All of our volunteers are incredible and we would like to spot light some of the servants at The Sheepfold. Unfortunately, we don’t have room to acknowledge all of them. They are all special to us and we know their good works are written on Jesus’ heart.

Andy and Cathy have been wonderful volunteers for many years. They serve inmany ways, including giving a special Christmas for one of our shelters and offer tickets for our lambs to go to Angel games. LeeAnne and her magnificent group ofteachers have faithfully ministered to our children during our Saturday night program.Along with many other volunteers, a special thanks to our teens, Debbie, Angelica, and Ashton who serve by watching and holding babies. Linda O. has been servingquietly but passionately once a week for over 10 years at our Thrift Store. What an incredible unsung hero. We have many wonderfulnewsletter volunteers who serve faithfully each month. Those who have served thelongest are Linda C. for 15 years, Joanna 10 years, Judy and Scott for 7 years, Margieand Dot for 6 years.
