NED Show On Friday morning we had a show called ‘The NED Show’. The presenter was called Hailee and she is from California. She was very funny and entertaining. Hailee was talking about Ned’s Day. The NED Show is about Never Give up, Encourage Others and Do your best. All through the show Hailee showed us amazing yo-yo tricks.
By Lily O’Keefe
NED Show yo-yo Sale As this program is a ‘Pay it Forward program, we were funded by the sales of Yo-Yos at the previous school. We will in turn be selling Yo-Yos to our students in order to fund the performance at the next school. Yo-yo’s will be on sale at recess all next week, starting from $8 outside our school hall. Don’t forget to practise your best tricks and remember the NED message.

Premier’s Reading Challenge The Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2016 is coming to an end. The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. The challenge for K-2 students is to read 30 books from the specified booklist, and for students in Years 3-6 to read 20 books from more complex booklists. Teachers have been reading many of the suggested books in class. K-2 have the books recorded for them online in a Reading Log, while 3-6 students need to record these books for themselves. Please encourage your child to do this so they can receive their special annual certificate. Students can log on to the Premier's Reading Challenge website with the same details they use to log on at school. https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html
Student Led Conferences The student Led Conferences were a great success for those students and parents who met with teachers on Tuesday. Involving students in the discussion of their achievements and learning goals empowers them to have an active role in their learning. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 were able to discuss and share with their parents things they are working on in the classroom that will help them improve. Parents successfully used the online booking system to make times that suited them for either one or more children,. This system streamlines the process for all involved and effectively manages the 100+ appointments that were made on the day. If you were unable to make a time for that day, please see your child’s teacher to arrange another 10 minute conference for you and your child.

Our Motivated Learner Focus is:
Pays Attention and Listens Here are some ways you can help your child develop this skill.
Strategy #1: Say it Once Repeating ourselves will produce lazy listening in our children. If kids are accustomed to hearing instructions twice, three times, and even four times, listening the first time around becomes unnecessary. Strategy #2: Pay Attention, Pause, Paraphrase Children need structured opportunities to restrain themselves from speaking in order to keep their attention on listening, especially when talking in groups. Strategy #3: Creating Questions If your children are listening to a speech, watching a documentary clip, or hearing a story read aloud, break it up by stopping a few times and having students write a question or two about what they just heard. Motivating Words Good listeners are both rare and valued. It's important to share this with your children, and to also share the fact that people who really listen -- make eye contact, show interest, and restrain from cutting others off in a conversation -- are easy to like and respect. Here's also a few quotes about listening:
"If speaking is silver, then listening is gold." -- Turkish saying "I think the one lesson I have learned is that there is no substitute for paying attention." -- Diane Sawyer, newscaster "One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say." -- Bryant McGill, author
Bookweek Parade Our book week parade is coming! This is when students can dress up as a character or theme from their favourite book. We invite all families to come along and watch the parade. Small prizes will be given for the most effective costumes but they do not have to be too elaborate as participation and having fun is the most part of the day!

Vision Board Workshops
Wadalba Community School is hosting free ‘Vision Board’ sessions for students, parents and carers of students. These sessions are aimed at promoting positivity in students and practising the skill of visualisation. The sessions are being run by a wellness coach (Kristina Ambler) who has a great deal of experience with helping people focus on their strengths and helping them reach their full potential. The session has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the parents and students within our school, as well as supporting the PDH/PE curriculum. The sessions will explain;
What a vision board is
How vision boards can help us reach our goals The students will then create their own vision board. These sessions will be run for primary students in Years 4-6 throughout the day and will be followed by the cuppa and cake session for parents.
Cuppa and Cake Session
During the parents and carers sessions, students will be able to share their vision board with their parents and learn about the process of making visions boards. Tea, coffee and afternoon tea will be provided.
