Dear Parents/Caregivers Welcome back to the first of the winter terms and the weather this week has reminded us all of what a Dunedin winter can entail. Our New Pick up Drop off

system begins...

This week at Wakari School we are all about road safety. Every family should have received an information package with every-thing you needed to know about our new Pick up drop off area and Safe Meet Spots map last week. This information, along with the home-work activity and colouring competition tem-plates are all available on the school web-site. Here are some reminders.

Use our Pick up Drop off area outside the Shetland St entrance morning or after-noon. These are “no parking” areas at the times shown on the sign. That means no wait-ing and no leaving your vehicle. They’re plac-es to pick up drop off and “GO”. If your child isn’t ready for you, please exit and re-enter the area (it takes just 3 mins to go around the block via Forresbank and Mayfield – see the map on our website). This gives others a chance to use your space. Staff will supervise children here until 3.15pm but if you want to park and wait or come into the classroom, please use longer term parking nearby.

If you have older children, have a look at our new Safe Meet Spot map. These are placed so older children can walk a short dis-tance away from the school gate which helps to ease congestion and make pick up times less stressful for you. Please read the map and discuss your after-school arrangement with your child and even do the short walk with your child.

Congratulations Alyssa! “In the school holidays I went to Timaru to the Southern Country Music Awards. My brother and I won the Junior Duo and came runner-up over-all. I was really nervous, but excited. It was an AWESOME experience.”

Homework sheets and colouring competition entries due today:

All students should have completed their “Learning at Home” task with their parents and returned these to their class teacher today (Thursday 30 April). Also due today are the jun-ior and senior colouring competition en-tries. Winners will be announced next week at assembly.

IMPORTANT NEWS Heritage Photo Orders This week Heritage photo order forms came home with your child. Wakari School receives a percentage of all sales. If you wish to make an order, please fill out the order form and return to the office no later than Friday 15 May. Contact Details Please advise us when your contact details

have changed. It is extremely important that

we are advised of any changes in Contact and

Emergency phone numbers, so that the School

can contact you when your child becomes ill/

injured, or when there is an unexplained ab-

sence. With many people using cell-phones ex-

clusively or, in addition to their home numbers,

it is crucial that we are aware of these new num-

bers. Thank you.
