The Honey Pies 7:00 pm

www.thehoneypies.com

‘Roy Orbison meets the Sex Pistols’ – or so they’ve been told – The Honey Pies combine the unassuming simplicity of post-war pop with the brasher sounds of the modern day, creating music at once nostalgic and revelatory. Pre-post-rock, if you will. In three years they’ve released three albums, each receiving airplay nationally, supported Tim Rogers, Deerhoof, The Jezabels, Leader Cheetah and Ball Park Music, played the Adelaide Big Day Out and had music featured on TV’s ‘Offspring’ and ‘Please Like Me’. Their latest album ‘Coconuts’ was mixed by Neil Thomason (My Disco, Wagons, Crayon Fields) and mastered by Fred Kavorkian (Ryan Adams, Iggy Pop, The National), and is their finest work yet. ‘****…there’s something a little bit vintage about your sound with the harmonies and classic songwriting’ Zan Rowe, Triple J

Miss Renee Simone 8:00 pm http://www.missreneesimone.com/

The Jamaican heritage, UK born songbird is described by legendary blues artist Eric Bibb as “Reminiscent of an early Sade”

Miss Renee Simone formed and fronted Byron Bay band The Blackbirds in 2010. The band spent the next two years securing gigs at some of the country’s top music festivals including Splendour in the Grass, Bluesfest, Mullum Music Festival, Bellingen Global Festival and Reggaefest.

In late 2012, Miss Renee stepped out as a solo artist and in January 2013 launched her debut album, ROAR, in honor of powerful, empowered and accomplished women.

“I drew inspiration from hundreds of women from all generations the world over who shared their stories of empowerment and disempowerment with me over a period of 12 months as I wrote the album. Women who have faced extreme adversity and risen to the challenge. Women who are still working it out. Women who refuse to give up.”

Miss Renee’s music is largely influenced by the divas of soul and jazz – Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday and Nina Simone - as well as contemporary artists Neneh Cherry, Lauryn Hill, Sade, Erykah Badu, Morcheeba, Massive Attack and Portishead.

A Miss Renee Simone show is a shared experience, an intimate encounter between everyone in the room. Think cocktails, warm orange sunsets, hammocks, waves lapping around your feet and super chilled, tasty vibes. She radiates soul, decadence, charm, elegance and fun. An experience you will walk away wholly warmed by.
